Subject: Transfers & Bids

I only hope DG listens to those who have his best interests at heart. Reading between the lines of the Conn. Post story it appears someone might be trying to ride DG to a new coaching position.

I suspect for a youngster like DG it would be a real ego boost to have a former NBA player telling you you're too good for the MAAC. As I see it, however, at a school like Mich. DG is 4th or 5th on the depth chart, especially after sitting out a year. Amaker has been very successful in recruiting a 1st rate front line. Moreover in the Big Ten or any comparable league DG better be prepared to play inside & get a few well placed elbows in his ribs.

The bottom line is that he needs to evalulate what is best for him not what is best for R. McClod. If he decides to transfer I would wish him the best & thank him for 2 good years. We can't afford to treat him better then other players or make any special concessions. Think of the impact on team chemistry. Obviously we need a new assistant coach who can help DG, RT, DM & the rest of the team to become better players.

Perhaps an NIT bid will help temper some of the frustration of being outplayed by Manhattan. In that game we saw a future NBA player control the game & he transferred from the Big East hmmmm!!!!

All he needs to do is look at his cousin Ajou. Went to UConn as a highly touted high school player. Didn't get better. Got chewed up and spit out by the system. Is that what Deng wants?

If you don't mind me adding my $.02 I felt Ajou experienced problems with his legs the last two seasons. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Deng is definitely ready on the defensive end and with a years coaching while he sits out, which I hope doesn't happen as I want to see the best talent I can in this league, he should be more than adequate as an offensive player.
