About 5 Big East teams could be in the NIT.... St John's Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova and Georgetown..... Didn't Hoyas turn down NIT bid last year..... NIT won't forget that. All those teams would be great draws in Big East crazy CT.

My choice would Be Holy Cross losing to American in the Finals of Patriot on Friday.

I believe Villanova has taken itself out of the postseason mix, and I think St. John's will get a home game. Seton Hall and Providence are definite possibilities from the Big East, URI or Richmond from the A-10, Princeton or Brown from the Ivy. If they lose, Holy Cross makes a lot of sense. Wagner could be out there, too, if St. Francis knocks them off tomorrow.

If we play Monday or Tuesday, the opponent will have to be local. I'd love to get a shot at Seton Hall.

Princeton (144) and Brown (145) are probably too high to make the NIT. It's also conceivable that six Big East teams—Pitt, ND, Syracuse, UConn, BC (46) and Seton Hall (36)—could make the NCAAs.

Forgot about Drexel, with an RPI of 86, out of the Colonial. We could get them.

The Eastern portion of the NIT becomes a Big East/ACC challenge scenario.

The ACC will likely send: NC State, UNC, Ga Tech, UVA, Clemson

The Big East will likely send: Providence, Nova, St Johns, Seton Hall, G'town

Any matchups between those schools would be decent draws and certainly more favorable than games involving Drexel or Fairfield. It would also guarantee that name teams would advance to the next round and thus guarantee another decent gate.

I also would not doubt that Siena might get the nod over FU simply because of the greater potential to draw.

I hope I am wrong on all counts.

Come to think of it, the Monday and Tuesday games match up the No. 33-40 seeds. Which means we wouldn't play a major-conference team until the second round. If we get a home game next week, the opponent will likely be Drexel, URI or Richmond.

Since Fairfield is selling tickets to a Monday or Tuesday game, I assume the NIT has contacted the school and given us the go-ahead. With the NIT announcing the field late Sunday night, a Monday game means less than 24 hours to sell tickets—which is not conducive to drawing a good crowd. So the first mini-round host teams must know they're in already. Not sure a Fairfield home game is a done deal yet—things are still fluid, I suppose. But it must be close to being a done deal.
