Subject: Canisius Preview - a Barometer game

Link below to the Canisius-Fairfield game preview from the Canisius site.

I feel that this game is an indicator of which way the rest of the season will go. A week off is a long time during this part of the season, especially when our last 3 games we were 1-2. A win tommarrow is a must, as we face two of the hottest teams in then the MAAC in Niagara and Manhattan over the next week.

Canisius will launch a lot of 3's, and defending each of their shots at the arc will be the key to this game. Canisius has played very well in portions of games, so we need to stay on top of them, and get a lead, or they could surprise us.

I would also like to see more of our smaller, quicker line-up. Ever since Bell went down and Kudjo got hurt, I have not seen one minute of a 3-guard offense, nor that quick forward unit of Maxwell and Delfico. Instead I have seen us go to a Bigger slower team with Thomson and the Dengs up front, or Garcia, Thomson and one of the Dengs. This bigger team has been less effective on defense, ball handling, overall offensive movement. This Big unit has only played 5-10 minutes, but thats 5-10 minutes that I would have liked to see out of the quicker unit.

Has the Injuries caused this change, or have we forgot what was successfull for us???????

I remember how well the team moved/passed with the Delfico/Maxwell combo at forward. I remember Michael Bell's explosion at Fordham, as we were in a 3-guard offense and Bell got most of his points as a SF. And Maxwells 25 point outburt at Marist was almost exclusively as a PF. I am not recommending starting the quicker unit..... but not seeing ANY minutes from this squad, is taking away from our strength of a quick pressure "D". Hopefully with Kudjo and Bell back, we will a return to quickness and less turnovers. I think we will need it vs Canisius.

[> CT Post - Gai is Ready to play hard -- JoeStag, 08:08:40 02/06/03 Thu

CT Post says that the team is focusing on defense, 44-14 and getting the ball the Gai. The 44-14 is the 44 points that Luis Flores scored and the 14 were the number of offensive rebounds that Siena got.

IMO, this team has won with defense, and if that is the main focus we should win this game and do well the rest of the season. Fairfield is first in the MAAC in 3-point defense, holding opponents to 30.9 percent shooting.... we will need that tonight against the Griffs who are not bashfull about shooting 3's.
