Subject: 13 Wins?

I thought we were only allowed to win 12 games a year. Two more wins and they are guaranteed a WINNING season.

One thing I have come to realize. Basketball is not a very pretty game anymore. I think we older purists get a bit frustrated when the team flounders, even if they win. We remember the days when the game seemed to be played at a higher level, or at least more intelligently.

I think that is why so many people have enjoyed watching Princeton, Duke and Indiana over the years. They are some of the very few that still play(ed) the game well.

Those days are pretty much gone, so we should probably just be happy anytime the Stags put a "W" on the board, even it it is a turnover-ridden, 37% shooting night. An ugly win is still better than the well-played loss.

Stagman, great point on our expectations of the game be played with a more fluid offense..... I don't see that with too many many teams even the real good ones. But I also think that we have a way to go on our offense in gerneral. Kudjo opened the gaem with a 3, and then for the next 28 minutes our 3 guards of Todd, Goode and Kudjo did not make a basket. Where are the days of Joey D and Tony George that could stop -jump and pop from anywhere. You can't win games with your guards not scoring, and you can't look like a fluid offense with output from the guards like that.

But we are very forturnate that Kudjo stepped up and played great, and Delfico had a spurt that turned the game to our advantage.

However, I must say that I am very impressed with the way this team plays good "D" and hard for 40 minutes. They gutted this game out, and thats what this team has been about and it is so refreshing to see that. IMO, good teams still win games when they don't play well offensively..... thats what we have been doing and the players and coaches should be proud of that.

In a 27 game schedule in trhe MAAC, I think a good team win 9 games comfortably, and also wins 9 games that they dont play well, but have gutted it out, have the "D", experience, coaching, or the clutch players that can make a play. Thats 18 wins, whicj I think is a reasonable expectation of a good program. Now if add some offensive talent to that (like a Desantis, George, Flores), then you can start talking about winning 20 games.
