I was not at the game, just listened to the announcers..... but all I got to say is that Dux was only 2-13 and ONLY 3 assists, and Mallory was 4-12 and no three pointers. Wasn't that our strategy, to take those two players out of their game. I think it worked. CT Post said that Stags defense took the legs away from Dux. That has been our stategy all year..... defensive pressure on their guards.

I like Mcdonald as a coach, but we have beat them like 7 times in a row, and each year Canisius has the better Backcourt combo. So if the question is who is the better coach, then.........

IMO, we do not press well when we use that double team/Trap, but when were pressure their guards, we have been very successfull..... no need to double team/trap. I think our double team/trap has worked ONLY when we have our quick team is out there. But from my notes from the announcers, we NEVER had Delfico and Max at forwards together, nor did we ever play with a 3 guard unit.... IMO thats a mistake..... we should do that fot 5-10 minutes.

Maybe I can make my point clearer. McDonald tried to save Dux for the end of the game. Now Dux didn't have a good shooting night. He succeeded though Dux didn't come through.

We didn't counter by applying pressure, not necessarily doubling and trapping as someone noted above. You can't double and trap with Ajou, Thompson and Garcia. I would have thought we would have wanted to force Dux to work hard and handle the ball. Though with Bell unavailable we are thin at guard also. Not as thin as they are though.

We won so I guess it is hard to argue our strategy didn't work. I would think hard about doing it differently next time.

Canisius cannot be comfortable running their offense without Dux handling the ball..... If thats what Mcdonald did, then he did not go with his strength..... that is a direct result of the pressure and the reputation that Tyquan Goode brings.

I wthink it was a not lose situation for us..... either Goode is on Dux with the ball, or Dux does not have the ball.

Or McDonald wanted to get to the end of the game and Dux still has some gas in the tank, especially since they had collapsed against Manhattan and Iona.

The Griffs have only 3 healthy guards and only 9 healthy scholarship players. Their recent late collapses can be directly attributed to that. You would have to be brain dead as a coach not to pressure the griffs and make their guards work hard. I would compare it to Marist 2 years ago when the they had no one to back Kennedy and they regularly let games slip away at the end.

Joe Stag- you are absolutely right. We were playing a big lineup vs. a small one. This hurt our press badly. With Michael Bell now back, we definitely should go small vs. big. What is disturbing is that we were trying to press with that big lineup. Also, at the end of the game, we gave up 3 consecutive layups. It looked like we didn't know what defense we were playing. But a win is a win. We will have to play much better to beat Niagara.
