Subject: As Reported by TruthRuth weeks ago.. First back to back...

As I pointed out weeks ago on this very board.. last night's victory assured FU of their first ever back-to-back ".500 plus" conference seasons in the history of FU's MAAC play..

This was recently pointed out -after TruthRuth - by the NY Times, today's Puma article - and the Stamford advocate...

Congrats to Coach O'Toole, Hobbie, Buzz, and McLeod as well as this courageous Stag Team for this UNPRECEDENTED milestone for Fairfield University Men's Basketball..

"NOT IN THE BOX

Conn Post - The Stags are assured of their second straight non-losing MAAC season, a first in school history"

We had just lost 5 straight games, which included that embarrassment at St John's. Since then, we have gone 19-9 (6-2 last year and 13-7 this year)..... Thats a 67.8 winning percebntage, and one of our best streaks since the 1985. Even better than our 20-10 season in 95-96.

Does that mean that this team has turned the corner????

TR, Now that we have reached consecutive non losing seasons in the MAAC, can we now start looking forward to statements like a 67.8 winning percentage since Feb 2002. BTW we are 14-4 in the MAAC during the last 365 days..... a 77.7%

The Bar has been raised.

I call that "progress" - it certainly demonstrates that patience is a virtue not often practiced, that building a "great" team takes more than just a couple of seasons (i.e.,Coach K's first four ACC/seasons at Duke), and that this team is "improving" -seeing how so many people use that as a benchmark on this board and as a barometer for judgement...

Go Stags -

There's a fine line between patience and staying with a guy too long. Should Fordham be patient with Bob Hill? They have to because of his huge contract, but his record says he should be canned. TOT had no track record before this season, so fans had every right to question whether he was the right man for the job.

[> [> Have we turned the corner -- Reindeer Fan, 20:02:09 02/07/03 Fri

I remember after Cormier's 20-10 season, how much I was looking forward to the next year. Some good new recruits coming in, Stellar players returning in Francis, Bowman and Miller; we had a team that was a lock to win 20 games. Miller got hurt, Bowman got hurt and the team finished last in the Maac. We all remember the incredible run in the Maac playoffs, but that was really Cormiers last hurrah.

Fairfield will need to run the table to surpass cormiers 20-10 season. We cannot surpass Mitch 24-7 campaign this year. My question is has the program turned the corner or is this the high point in a cycle of continued mediocrity. I am 100% behind O'toole, and I hope he has turned the corner. But lets not misread where we are at. O'toole is yet to match the performance of the previous two coaches before him who were both fired. So while things do look positive right now, that's all they look is positive, and this team really hasn't accomplished anything......Yet....
