Subject: Coach Ro and the game

I was at the game, and this was by far our worst performance of the year, just very lackluster play. The substituion pattern was all off, and why after Deng Gai scored 9 of the first 11 points did he decide that he was a guard and needed to be out on the perimeter. The loss of coach Ro hurts more than you guys know. He was the guy that this team listened to, to many of the players he was the head coach and O'Toole just the figure-head. But coach Ro could not sit and watch O'Toole treat the kids the way he does, so he had to go. I'm sure in a few years he'll be leading some D-1 team to the tournament, too bad it's not Fairfield. One player that Ro was especially close to was Paul Brown, a guard who he thought should have been starting, and I'm not just saying that because Paul is my friend, It really bothered Ro to watch PB sit on the bench, as it does me, yet im still at every game hoping he gets a chance. Let's not let this season slip away, right the ship and get back to winning, starting with Gonzo's bunch on Thursday. Go FF

This is the second, at least, comment about head games or about how players are treated or manipulated. Could someone explain a little more.... examples....

Four of those nine points were scored on jump shots. Gai was on the perimeter at times right from the start.

You do your friend Paul a disservice everytime you post your laments. You should let this one go. It is irrational.

I'm not doing any disservice to Paul he deserves an oppertunity to play, and since I can't tell TOT, I'm telling you guys who have not had an oppertunity to see him play. Bringing it to the forefront as I have is in noway doing a disservice to anyone. I don't see how you have such an intimate knowledge of the teams interaction, to dismiss the importance of having coach ro on the sidelines. He is a coach that players looked up to and played for, something that cannot be said of TOT.

As I said below I find it very strange that he left with only about a month to go in the season. What ever he brought to the table seems to be lacking in the last few games. We are 2-3 in the last 5 heading to Draddy & a hot Manhattan team not a good trend.

Maybe its good that GD didn't rush to give TOT an extension. Let's see how the next couple of weeks pan out first.

It's gonna be toughest on those kids, like Paul Brown, who obviously have not been given much of an opportunity to contribute in games, perhaps because of their attraction to Coach McLeod and how they may have showed it? Has anyone taken notice during timeouts etc who Coach McLeod mostly talked with? Wasn't the coaches! Gonna be an uphill road these last 7 games, but the players will not lose one of those contests! Hoping fot the best.

If it's true McLeod left because he couldn't stand TOT, then shame on Roshown. That's not a very mature way to handle things, quit with eight games left. That's why you would like to believe McLeod's family problems were the reason he departed.

[> CT Post - Roshown -- JoeStag, 21:43:56 02/09/03 Sun

When I first read the CT Post article, I also speculated on what all the reasons might be. After I found out some details, I re-read the article, paying specific attention to each word...... the article was accurrate, no need to speculate.

The team will miss Roshown Mcleod, I thought he taught the Big Men well. Hope he will someday get back into coaching, and hopefully it can be at Fairfield.

The McLeod situation is troublesome, and I think it did affect the Stags today. But give credit to Niagara—they were simply the better team. Darden, Mendez, Reaves and Cruz are tremendous players. I don't want any part of these guys in March.

Manhattan is a buzzsaw right now, and honestly, I don't see Fairfield going 40 minutes with them on Thursday. So we need to take care of business vs. Marist, Rider, St. Peter's and Loyola, then see what happens at Niagara. If the Stags can complete the MAAC season at 13-5, I think it will be enough to finish in the top 3. If we lose to any of the second-tier teams, however, all bets are off. At least Siena appears headed for the No. 5 seed.

A 2-3 homestand is beyond disappointing, especially losing to the three top-tier teams. We let a golden opportunity to take charge of the No. 2 seed slip away today. Man, it's never easy rooting for the Fairfield Stags.

you hiy yhe nail on the head. as i said earlier he couldn't stand TOT - his lack of coaching ability & the way he treats players. Coach Ro said all the politically correct words, but his family reasons were his wife & he couldn't stand what he had to go through every day with TOT. TOT can recruit & be a fair assistant coach but not a head. he does not know basketball & the things he has done will come back to bite him one day. beast of luck to coach Ro, he was a great asset to thr stags.

Hate to see this starting up again about TOT, but he must maturely handle the situation. That means cool, collected confidence and instilling same in his team. Somehow I think they'll be emotional wrecks at Manhattan, looking over their shoulders, cringing because their play or shot may put TOT over the edge.
