Subject: *** IMPORTANT *** - Has anybody tried connecting to new Webcasting????

Need some feedback. Let me know if you have connected, or are having problems. Below are the details====>

---------------------------------------------------------------------

On February 1st, the WVOF Internet Stream will be upgrading to Quicktime 6.0! Currently WVOF has two webstreams
- 88.5FM WVOF Webstream (Windows Media Player)
- Web Studio Stream (Quicktime)

Currently, you Click on selection #1 to listen to Fairfield Basketball games. As of February 1st, that 1st selection will use Quicktime instead of Windows Media Player. It is important that everyone click on the 2nd selection in order to TEST to see if your computer can connect to the Webcasting using Quicktime. If it does not work, there are instructions on the WVOF site for you to Download a new version Quicktime.

I have got mine to work, However we need everyone to TEST their own Computer ASAP. If it does not work, or if you have any questions email Casey Timmeny at ctimmeny@mail.fairfield.edu
He will be more than welcome to help you, cause he needs to know that Quicktime will work on all Computer onfigurations out there.

I have warned the Athletic Department tommarrow, and voiced my concern about the Risk of doing this in the middle of hoop season. If everyone can connect properly, this should be a good upgrade that will thousands of Fairfield fans to listen at once; however, if everyone cannot connect, then Fairfield needs to know that, and I would push for a delay of the upgrade.

Please TEST selection #2 ASAP. You can do this anytime as music is always webcasted. Remember, If it does not work, or if you have any questions email Casey Timmeny at ctimmeny@mail.fairfield.edu
You can also post here, cause I will be interested in your success, as will others.

Manhattan, along with Iona and Canisius use Broadcast Varieties to webcast. Thats a 3rd party organization, where the university is picking up the cost of the Boradcast. Manhattan's does come thru load and clear, but the Canisius and Iona's is not as good, but acceptable anyways. I think that Manhattan's broadcast is over the Web only ..... no radio.

Fairfield has gone the route of investing in their own Web streaming technology. I think it has sounded good this year, and it also allows them to Broadcast over the FM radio, and do multiple events (Men's and Women's hoops) at the same time. However I am worried about the reliablity of the new software because it is Bleeding edge, and not loaded on older computers..... thats why the University needs feedback if their connection instructions work, and are easily implemented. Bob Huessler and John Cummings have spent a lot of time helping WVOF become more professional.... so its an educational thing also.

Other schools like Siena and Marist have gone the route of charging $7.95 a month to listen to a College hoop package.

We did mention Broadcast Varieties to Doris, but the current strategy is to try to make WVOF happen.

I just hope they have Huessler on this feed rather than whoever was calling the other play-by-play. I had trouble getting to the Huessler feed last game and was forced to listen to the other play-by-play (I think it might be students). Huessler does an excellent job calling the game so you can follow the action.
