Subject: Iona - Keys to the game

- Deng Gai needs to stay out of foul trouble. Its no so much that we need him on the floor the entire time (cause i think Robbie can do a fine job), but I think he needs to be aggressive while he is out there.

- Not let Iona's big men beat ours down the floor. The common theme in all our games with Iona is that their Big Men get some easy baskets. Henson is the guy that usually plays very good against us.

- Don't let Iona go on a big run...... Thats always a concern when you go on the road. And the Stags have been pretty good of not allowing that big run. Yes Rider, Canisius, and even Fordham had runs on us, but we controlled it and recovered. Every home team goes on a run and the crowd goes wild. Or ability to keep our composure and recover will be needed today.

- Continue the hard/tight "D", which I think is the trademark of this team.

I would think turnovers will play a major role as well.

But you're right about our big men running the floor. Ruland has to see that without Jenkins, we cannot win a halfcourt game against you guys. I expect Big Jeff to let our kids run as much as humanly possible tonight, in an effort to beat your shotblockers down the floor.

i think a key is our depth - we need to play hard for all forty minutes and one second

If Iona's guards have a good perimiter game, I think the Gaels will win. If Fairfield makes this an inside game, Stags win. In any event, I don't think the last .8 is going to matter tonight ;-)

It's an important game for both teams. Iona needs to win at home against a top 4 contender and Fairfield wants a road win against same (and that's not to discount a good road win against Canisius). This should be an interesting 3 game stretch for Fairfield. Always exciting in the wacky MAAC.

Good luck tonight. Hoping for a good game with no injuries to either squad.

Go Raiders!
Go Gaels!
