Subject: Student Ban clarification - AD failure

I think people have taken my call for a student body ban at the Arena a little to literally - my only point is that now that the Stags are winning, the students - as fair-weather as they come - should not be let off the hook for past five years of apathy ...

Furthermore- The AD - Gene Doris - is failing in making the proper moves to insure fan participation -
he MUST:

1. Make student tickets FREE - what does he think college students are going to do with their $18 - go see hoops or order another pitcher of Stella Artois???

2. Take a page out of the Terps book and have the first "X" rows around the Harbo Yard for STUDENTS ONLY!! - create a Cameron Crazy atmosphere...

3. FREE transportation to the Arena - come on.. how common sense is that?

4. Set up Student Body events at half-time, pre-game -post-game...

The AD is not doing his job and directing his staff to increase student participation - and he should BE CALLED ON IT!

Student tickets are only $5.00 per game (If they buy them in advance) not 18. A free bus is provided to the game for any students that want to attend. You might want to recheck your facts before posting misinformation like that....

While I do agree that more needs to be done to attract Students to the Arena, blaming the AD for non student involvement is way of base. We all knew that moving to the Bridgeport Arena was going to be a hard sell to the Students, and that has been compounded by the losing record so far.

The student's only see the last 4 years of a losing record.... thats the biggest issue..... it is a negative snowball effect. Students are fickle, and you can't blame them for that. Now that the team is winning, it is time to have a positive Snowball effect with the students.

I think the university offered free tickets to all students earlier this year..... however it was the Iona, SnowStorm game. I agree, I think they shuold let all students in for free vs Manhattan.

FUSA also needs to play a major role in this.

$18 was used as an example - not to be taken literally - however, I could use the $5.00 analogy and substitute Pabst for Stella ...

The point is the AD IS RESPONSIBLE for the success of the program - and that trickles down to support, atmosphere, and NOISE behind the team - and that is what helps a team succeed... did anyone go to Cameron on Jan 2? it was student break and it was still rocking - don't try to tell me that the energy level of the students at the old Cole Field House (I refuse to call it by it's corporate name)did not directly contribute to the Terps upsetting the Blue Devils yesterday - or the success of the Blue Devils over the past decade...

SOMEONE has to be a visionary.. It is the AD's job is to contribute to a successful program - he is failing to to that... that is obvious!!!! If not him - then WHO?????

How about a little less focus on the Women's program - and do the proper job for the men's program.. let's be honest..

To compare to Duke and Maryland is ludicrous. Duke has won several national championships and, until yesterday, was #1 in the country. Cameron Indoor Stadium is also right on campus.

As far as Maryland, the base of students is enormous compared to Fairfield. Maryland basketball is also #2 in the DC region, only behind Redskins football.

Let's not forget that FU only has about 2,500 students.

Let's assume that half of FU's student body has any interest in basketball. Let's then assume that, on any given night, that 50% do not have to study for an impending exam, have a report that is due, etc... 2,500 x .5 x .5 = 625 students at a game. What do we get now? 300?

Sure, in the old days, on a Saturday night, the students would come out in droves. I don't think that happened on a lot of weeknights though, except in the really good years. I was there from 80-84. I went to every game no matter what. I was one of the few that did so.

Given 20 years of losing, I can understand why students are finding better things to do with their time. That being said, if the team keeps winning, I will disappointed if more don't start showing up immediately.

I agree the university needs to do more to promote the program. Your point which is well take would have some credibility if it was factual. The way you've posted it is patently false and obscures the credibitity of your point. Please try and get your facts straight at least once in a while.

Truth George - nit picking must be your strong suit... bottom line is they have to pay.. and that is the wrong way to go - be it $1 - $5 -or $28... students should be encouraged to go to games and show some pride - and demanding $$ in return is an example of poor strategy, execution and vision by the university - pointedly - the AD and his minions...

you must be a liberal attorney.. haha!

Ruth, I am a supporting of Tim O'toole, have been since he was named. But exageratting his record and abilities does not help him, it just makes your arguements on his behalf since less credible. I hope TOT runs the table and proves all of his detractors wrong. I also hope his case is helped by credible factuals posts which point out the positives like O'tooles excellent recruiting efforts, and the job his has done building a team that plays well together and has excellent chemistry.

Barring a collapse of collisol proportions, which seems incredibly unlikely given the depth of this team, we can look forward to have Coach O'toole for another 3 seasons. I'd like to be able to say at the end of those years that he is the best coach in the Maac, even then, the comparasons to Dean Smith, Jim Calhoun and Wooden would be very premature. One season does not a great coach make, nor do the four past season make O'toole a bad coach.

Amazingly, I could not agree with you more Truth George - however, I have never exaggerated TOT's record - that speaks for itself- I am just urging patience a he and his staff build a formidable program... this is year five, and the best is yet to come.. there is nothing that detracts credibility about these statements.. and I do still think TOT has the potential to become a star in NCAA coaching history - and I am in the company of Boeheim and K and Amaker in seeing that potential ...
