Yes, but who could foresee it ever being this bad?
I thought it was great at Niagara, playing in the Convention Center, playing Syracuse, LaSalle, Providence, other good Eastern schools.
Then the Big East happened and the next thing we knew we were stuck in the NEC. At first, the MAAC seemed great, a big improvement over playing Maine and Northeastern! It was mostly NY based, similar size schools, good quality mid-major ball. The league repped itself in the NCAA competitively.
Then NIL and the transfer portal and boom, new team every year, recruiting low end D1, JUCO, D2 guys. Still, we are no worse off than other MAAC schools and yet we are in the bottom of the league.
Really a shame, a fine tradition gone awry…..well, we have our memories.

With the teams GP has assembled lately Niagara couldn't even compete in the old North Atlantic Conference with the likes of New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and other basketball power-houses...it's truly a shame how far Niagara has sunk and for the life of me I don't understand why it can't keep up with schools like Merrimack, Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart. The entire MAAC has to contend with NIL/Portal challenges, so why can't NU do as well as the others?

Yes many of the players did leave NU for more money. Last year alone, Marshall left for more money at LaSalle and is their leading scorer. We all know
Obioha left 2 years ago for more money at Wilmington. Others also left for money. NU has had probably smallest NIL funding in the Maac . A extra $50,000 to Maac players means a lot. You get what you sow in this environment.
