I am not going to lay all of this at GP's feet. I know the opinions are all over the place and nothing said has really bothered me, but if he is guilty of anything it's a biggie, and it's not getting the talent here. Far from the worst coach, he has had to endure more than any other. Look, we know where we stand in Division I with ANY coach. We are lower tier at best and made a hiccup under JAM. Speaking of JAM, he should have been paid what the current coach is making this year at least.
Ancient facilities, a tradition that has been all but shredded over time, an AD who follows someone elses preferences, the complete demise of it's tiny fan base and a bleak future highlight it's immediate future.
Division I is nothing but a publicity venture for the university. If you need to see it happen live, look at SJU. Same priests, top coach, millions in NIL money and a smaller than most for a large program bu a rabid fan base and a desire to succeed. NU is just the little brother and that's fine to Purp 1, but the thing is and it blows is that the administration here really doesn't care about success with athletics. I mean they'd like to see it but since it's just for your name in the paper on the losing column of a west coast sports page, or hoping one of these athletes who were no where near D-I caliber when they played here leaves/donates them a chunk, it's gonna be misery at this level of play.
I know I hate saying this, but NU can and will get more donations by dropping down. That's where sport is at it's best with real competition not poached or bought. NU playing Division I is not impressive to me if you constantly failed to compete.
If you told somebody that didn't know that NU was in the same division as Duke, the person would ask you how is that so. All you could say is look at the fortunes of Duke and then of NU. That will answer the "how's it going" next comment by that person.
You know the Whitches of Oz? they had some pizzazz and magic. We're the Wizzard of Oz., an ordinary, non-magical man, a balloonist from Omaha (but not Creighton) who uses stage tricks, illusions, and deception to make people believe he is a powerful wizard. He operates from behind a curtain to mask his lack of true magical power.
But then again, I could be completely FOS and totally wrong.
