There is absolutely NO JOY in Niagara basketball anymore. Watched the LeMoyne and Duke games and was so embarrassed for Niagara's legacy. When Paulus leaves NU , he will UNFAIRLY go down as the worst coach in Niagara history. First, it was missing out on the Big East, assuming that was a possibility. Then, it was not trying to join the A10. Then, they let the most successful coach in the recent history of the program walk and replaced him with a D-2 coach. But, the final blow was unrestricted player transfers and NIL money. Now the MAAC is not really a D1 Conference. To act as if it is, is simply ignorance. In the early 2000's, we could dream of winning the conference and maybe pulling off a NCAA upset. Now, there's really no purpose to Niagara playing D1 basketball. There's little, if any, ambition to be even a good MAAC team. The NCAA has basically killed the low/mid majors. They are irrelevant now.

It’s just reality that a Niagara size program cannot compete with Duke. Just look at the size of the players. Niagara is a low level Division 1 program. Any idea of ascending is just impossible with the present state of NCAA. What you hope for is a respectable team who can win in conference and beats teams like Howard. I’m not prepared to throw this team away yet. Let’s see how they fare in conference. The sun will come up tomorrow.

As LNU1 said, let's see how this team fares in MAAC play before we lose all faith.
