Brother AM, I wish you a fine Blue Marathon Weekend. Sounds like a weekend you'll never remember. I've had a few of those myself, but I'm getting too old for that much fun anymore, although I do allnighter poker games (parties, really) from time to time. Lot's of beer and chips and gambling and cussing and farting. You can't beat that.

Speaking of marathon weekend, my excitement (so far) was my 7 mile run at daybreak through Mission Trails Park in eastern San Diego, this morning. It was quite exciting, actually. The fog was thick in the canyons and thinner on the grades, providing a strange, eerie atmosphere, especially with the sound of the river and crows cawing in the background.

About once a month, on the average, I see a coyote or a clan of them. This morning was one of those times. I came over the crest of a hill and it ran across the path about about 50 feet in front of me and stopped, looking back for a second just before disappearing into the brush.

During the summer months, most coyotes look like little, skinny dogs. This time of year they start to get a winter coat (even here in S Cal), which makes them look bigger. I don't know for sure, but I imagine one of the tricks mountain people use to determine what the winter will be like is to observe the coats of animals. From the looks of that coyote, we may have an early, cold winter.

Anyway, I consider the sighting of a large wild animal a good omen, so I'm assuming the Chargers will beat the Raiders this afternoon. I will have a Dos Equis in honor of my Blue friends at this board, and I will stand to attention at half time whether the Chargers are winning or not and salute you, Brother AM, for your dauntless marathon hardiness.

Say hi to Blue Ralph. Cheers! GF
