Subject: Great-grandma's dishes are brown......HELP!

I just inherited my great-grandmother's John Edwards porcelain in the Harvest pattern. About half of the dishes are brown....many are EXTREMELY brown. Is there any way to remove this? The way they are now, these pieces are terribly unsightly and virtually unusable. I'd love to use the entire set -- I hate the thought of downsizing it from service for 12 to service for 6. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
