for the 90% silver coins. The 1965 thru 1970 Kennedy half, although clad, continued to have a fair amount of silver - about 40%.

Also, during WW2, nickle was in short supply and was replaced by silver in nickels. Most of the '42 nickels and all of the 43 thru 45 were 35% silver. They may be identified by the large mint mark on the reverse of the coin. It is located right above the dome of the building (Monticello). HH Bob
