Subject: Riding Nothin' But Trouble

I take Trouble out of his stall. I tie him up to eat his breakfast. I start brushing him at the neck and work my way down both sides. I slide my hand down his leg and say "Pick it up." He lifts his leg so I can clean it. I do this for all of his feet. I put his blanket on and make sure there are no bumps or rinkles. I set the saddle on his back lightly. I reach for the girth and make sure it is on the right hole. I cinch it up and make sure it is not to tight but tight enough so the saddle won't slip. I go and get his bridle from my tack box. I put his halter around his neck so he is still tied and he won't walk away. I put the bit in his mouth and make sure the straps are straight before continuing over his ears. I fix his forelock so it isn't inside his browband. I buckle the throught latch and take his halter off his neck. I walk him to the mounting block. Before I step on I make sure he is square under himself so I don't throw him off balance. Once he is square I step on. I walk him toward the start of the trail. We start up the trail and he gets spooked. I make him walk past whatever spooked him so he knows that it won't hurt him. After our long trail ride I turn him around and we canter all the way back. Once we are back I take off his bridle and put his halter back on. I take off his saddle and clean it. I put it back on its rack with the pad turned upside down so it will dry off. I rub Trouble down with a wet rag. I brush him once more. I check his feet to make sure he didn't get any rocks in them when we were on the trail. Once I do that I put him on the hot walker for 10 minutes. I take him off and put him back in his stall. I give him some cookies for being so good.
