Duquesne got a head start on Fordham yesterday by announcing that their new AD will report directly to the President. Former AD Brian Colleary had reported to the VP of Student Services, as is the current reporting structure at Fordham. Is there a major Div. 1 university remaining in the country that still has the AD reporting to a VP? We need to get going here.

University President Dr. Charles J. Dougherty announced Friday that he has accepted the resignation of Director of Athletics Brian Colleary.

"The University thanks Brian for his service and wishes him well in future endeavors," said Dr. Dougherty, adding that the new athletic director, who will report directly to the president, will be asked to comprehensively examine Duquesne's athletics programs to ensure Duquesne sports programs rise to the next level.

The search for a new athletic director will begin immediately. Current Assistant Athletic Director for Business, Paul Hightower, will serve as interim Director of Athletics until a permanent replacement is named.

I wonder who our softball coach and basketball coach will be reporting to in the next year or two if our glorious athletic hierarchy doesn't get off their butts and doing something about contracts. Patriot League? Not sure what you mean, but see the article I posted above today from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Duquesne will emphasize success in A-10 basketball, and may drop a few sports to do so if necessary. (NT) -- Rambacker, 11:11:26 05/15/05 Sun

Re: Presidential oversight of athletics is one of the principles upon which the PL was formed. It may give DU and additional hook for FB membership. BTW, rumor on the AGS board has Temple leaving A-10 BB in '08 to join MAC for all sports (with FB admission prior to '08). A-10 is really having a Hell of a time. Haven't heard that rumor at all. What I have heard is Temple will join the MAC in football only and stay in the A-10 in all other sports. Temple has a lot of leverage to be football only in the MAC because the MAC is ecstatic to have them as a football member due to the fact that Philly will become the largest MAC football market for TV. I find it interesting that the MAC is delighted to have a presence in Phila. Attendance at TU home games is weak vs Big East Schools. It will likely worsen against the "directionals". (NT) Jimbo65 13:21:02 05/16/05 Mon

The reason the MAC is happy with Philly/Temple for football is it gves them more TV eyeballs for their league TV package. Attendance is secondary to gaining a top media market - it allows them to charge more for thier commercials and get higher rights fees from TV networks. Re: Update: Cleveland Plain Dealer says that in addition to football, TU will have a 45-game scheduling arrangement for Men's BB and other sports over the next four years. Temple will never join the MAC in anything other than football. They need a place to park their football program before they ultimately drop to the CAA football level(my prediction) and 1-AA.
