She walked through the range, behind the archers, watching them with bright, curious eyes. Flicking her long, red hair back she smiled absently, carefully lifting the hems of her gown as she moved. Finally reaching an isolated spot, she stopped and unslung her bow from her shoulder. Beside her, a sleek ferret yawned and shifted into a honey-colored Cocker Spaniel.

She fitted an arrow in the bow and took careful aim and released it - all in one, fluid motion. Again, she drew and released, fluidly and with the practise and grace of a true archer. "You've still got it," drawled the Cocker Spaniel, lifting his lovely, golden head to observe the bullseyes. "Wow. And I haven't practised for - what? - a week? Two weeks?" Scarlet said, pleased. "Three," said the Cocker Spaniel. "Oh. Okay," said Scarlet amiably. "Come on, let's retrieve the arrow. The other one's all split and mangled."

Walking down the length of the field, she hoped to god no one would mistake her for a moving dummy. She retrieved her sole, intact arrow and walked back to where she had been standing. "Well. That's enough for one day. I haven't got the motivation to do anymore. Come, on, Tira," Scarlet said, slinging her bow over a shoulder. The Cocker Spaniel leaped up at his mistress' outstretched arm and perched there, careful not to scratch the sleeves of her gown.
