1. Comatose patients.
The brains of comatose patients are not inactive (or else they'd be brain dead); they exhibit slow wave activity measurable by e.e.g.

2. Plants.
Imputing sentience to members of the vegetable kingdom is a dubious enterprise, to say the least. In any case, the example doesn’t really touch the argument at hand. My anesthesia example shows that human awareness is dependent on certain physical facts; a supposedly conscious plant wouldn’t be a counterexample.
