The problem is that you are seeing Yogananda through your atheistic/secular worldview and trying to project unto him your worldly psyche.
I'm sure Yogananda couldn't care less what Mike Drake or anyone else thought of his actions. It seems from your cynical viewpoint that you expected Yogananda to take out advertisements in all the newspapers, radio, and television stations screaming "Come one, come all, this Saturday at 9 am in front of City Hall, I'm going to leave my body forever. This is your chance to see it live." Fortunately, Yogananda would never have gone for that type of freak show that seems all to common nowadays for ego agrandizement. He came with a mission, accomplished it, and got out. That's all. While we can speculate what his motives were for doing this or that in a particular fashion, only he and God really know what was behind it.
