I'm not at all sure that I'm the ideal person to do that mate, after all as a professional property manager I do have an axe to grind....and a quid to make. BUT, having said that I guess I am, or should be, (AND I AM if that makes sense)prepared to stand in front of a crowd of fellow professionals and shout as loudly as I am able ... MOST OF YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO YOUR PROFESSION....etc, etc,. However the reality of the current state of affairs in this industry is such that many property managers are almost totally inexperienced in the business. Someone is at fault here but who?
It's easy to blame the licensee but I think we must dig much deeper than that. Perhaps we can blame the Lessors who are the reason for our business and the source of our income, why?, because they want to have the best possible representation at the lowest possible cost ...!!! So what's new? we are all like that. Arn't we?
What about our industry spokespeople, in Queensland the REIQ? (Of whom I might add I have a tremendous respect), but is there more that the REIQ and other organisations can do to help further our industry standards?
One of the things I am getting my knickers in a knot about is perhaps characterised by the following.
Recently I attended the SCT in Brisbane. On getting in front of a referee on what was obviousley a very busy day, and after he had looked at the presentation I placed in front him, he said something to the effect that the previous property manager who had just left his court did not have a clue as to what was required to prove a case. He had sent the person away with no order.
He didn't know, but I did, ..... that the previous property manager was in fact working for one of my opposition organisations.
Now I can feel sanctimonious about this, but in fact I get angry because some lessor somewhere is going to get the wrong idea of this industry. WE ARE NOT A BUNCH OF xANKERS. Just some of us!!!!!!
Of course there are many examples around of how unprofessional some property management organisations are, but is there any light at the end of such a dismal tunnel?
Will there ever be a rethink by the powers that be as to what kind of training is most suitable for this industry, and determine who provides it and who pays for it!!!
Enough from me for now.
Are there any like thinkers out there?
Rose, I know that you are very dedicated to this industry, what do you think?
