You're using the wrong plug in. Right beside the plug in called "Line In" is one called "Mic In". Use this "Mic in" instead of the Line in.

Or, in your program to record (I don't know which one you're using, so I can't tell you how) change the record settings from "Mic In" (usually the default) to "Line in".

Thats my take on your problem. Hope it helps.
