Susan,

I arrived at Da Nang AB a few days after your father was killed in action. His valor on 1 July 1965, during a sapper attack, saved the lives of 25 aircraft maintenance crew members, for which he was awarded the Silver Star.

You may read first hand accounts of that night and your father's actions, at:

http://www.vspa.com/t_dn-jensen-toc-1965.htm

You may know that your father was the first USAF Air/Security Police to be killed in action or line of duty. 110 would follow him, and have their names join his on The Wall.

Airmen that knew you father say that he was a fine man and a great NCO who cared for his troops. He was off duty that night and volunteered to take coffee around to the perimeter posts, and was suddenly confronted with at least 15 sappers that had penetrated the S/E ARVN perimeter. Several aircraft were destroyed in that attack.
