Subject: Christmas 1969

Dear Mr. Murphy,
I am a 16 year old high school student currently learning about the Vietnam War. We are reading The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien. I am sure you have heard about it. We were assigned to go to war-stories.com and read a few stories and reflect on them. I read your story, “Christmas 1969” and have a few comments about the story. How are flights on Christmas? Are their Christmas Trees on flights? It must have been a huge relief to come home after fighting for a few years in the war. Seeing your family again must have been awesome. I just have one question for you. How long did you serve in Vietnam? Thank you for fighting.
