Subject: Note On PFC Matthews

Howdy John;

On a hunch, I looked up all Marines KIA in Quang Nam Province on 11/21/68 and who were in the same company as PFC Matthews (which is a tedious process). The result is contained on a tribute page to LCPL Douglas Wayne Armstrong on the Virtual Wall at http://www.virtualwall.org/da/ArmstrongDW01a.htm which says:

"A Note from The Virtual Wall
Golf 2/7 lost seven men on 21 November 1968:
LCpl Douglas W. Armstrong, Elkhart, IN
Pfc Thomas E. Bush, Billerica, MA
Pfc Thomas W. Desselle, San Antonio, TX (Silver Star)
Pfc Larry Dunn, Chicago, IL
Pfc Glenn E. Ford, Gadsden, AL
Pfc Richard L. Matthews, Portland, ME
Pfc William J. Russell, Lima, OH"

and

"10 Nov 2005
Doug Armstrong served with Golf company of the 7th Marines and we (the 700 members of Golf who have been located) wish to perpetuate and honor his memory.

He was killed while on Operation Meade River.

If you knew him please feel free to contact us.

Travis Skaggs

I'm sure that Mr. Travis Skaggs' invitation extends to all friends and relatives of all of their KIAs. His website (which is dedicated to Golf Co., 2nd/7th Marines) is at http://www.golfco7thmar.com/ and it has a guestbook where you can leave a message.
