Subject: LCPL JOHN PAUL KLABUNDE USMC

It was early 1967 when I looked up from the roulette table in Puerto Rico and locked eyes with a very handsome Marine in his dress blues. John was stationed in Puerto Rico to practice some exercises. Neitehr of us knew he'd be shipped out to Vietnam. Believe this or not, John would visit me in Brooklyn when he had free time. My parents loved this quiet young man from Omaha, Nebraska. I remember dancing with him in Old San juan, having a drink and dancing at the hotel La Concha. I think we fell in love...He was killed in action in September 1967 and it's almost 40 years and I still carry those cherished memories of John. I believe that I and my family might have been the last people he saw before shipping out. I pray his family reads this so I can get more information and to tell them that I was so lucky to have known him and love him. Penny Lane was our song...So, so sad and I still have trouble believing that he was taken so young. And I'm so angry this his life was shortened and he never got married, had children annd experience the joy of living. Had he lived, I suspect we may have gotten married.

Forty years and it all feels like yesterday. I would love to hear from anyone who knew John...Unfortunately the war in Iraq has bubbled up old feelings about Vietnam and my John. God bless and keep you John. Until we meet again. I love you!
