The first fact is you know your father did a tour. Now is there anything in his estate that tells you who he was with?
If your son is just asking general questions about the service then lets just say your father was with the First Infantry Division in 1967, let your son research the 1st ID in Vietnam and as he grows up he may find out more about his grandfather and find out more of his particular role in that period.
