Thank you Jay. The piece you are talking about is a narration by Glenn Beck of my neighbor down the road in Austin, TX, a fellow Vietvet and great author, Tim O’Brien (“The Things We Carried”) and my own (“From the Other Side”) http://www.war-stories.com/from-the-other-side-camunes-1967.htm. The words that I have written along with Tim’s are shared by many and especially on Veteran’s Day and this up-coming Memorial Day. You can find the free audio at http://www.glennbeck.com/audio/free-audio.shtml under the title of Veteran’s Day Essay.

I was a doggie grunt in Vietnam most of ’67 but spent 8 months of those under the command and control of the 3rd Amphibious Marines. I shared many a ‘fighting’ hole with my Marine brothers in the Tam Ky Mountains and my respect for them is over powering as I hope theirs is of our courage and fighting abilities. You, as a Navy Corpsman, have my greatest respect and I thank you for your service from the bottom of my heart.

Many people will take this coming Memorial Day holiday to celebrate and I would never deny them the right to do so. I only ask that they stop at least for a minute and remember those that sacrificed so much for their present right to take a day off and celebrate. I really believe that they will look down at the crowds of men, women and children at the beach, picnics and so many other places and smile that they did not fail in accomplishing the freedom they were willing to give their lives for. . . . . May they all rest in God’s precious hands. . . . . . . A Proud Vietnam Veteran . . . . Pat Camunes
