This was the action at the beginning of Operation Hickory to get the NVA out of the southern part of the DMZ at Cam Lo. Pfc Hartsoe and L/Cpl David Bendorf were awarded the Navy Cross - along with a Silver Start to their Corpsman, HN Galen Warren...the only 3 casualties with Lima Company, 3/9. The Unit logs show 41 KIA, 59 WIA that day.

Lima Co had been defending the Khe Sanh base on Hill 174 - and were pulled into Op Hickory at the last minute.
