Howdy Janet;

By "the veterans wall", I assume that you are referring to the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, the names on the Wall are restricted to those GIs who were KIA in the Vietnam Theater of Operations [Vietnam (north and south), Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Guam, and adjacent waters] for any reason (hostile or non-hostile) during the "Vietnam Era" or who died later as a direct result of physical (not mental) illness, injury, or wounds received. (Agent-Orange maladies don't count either unless the disease was diagnosed at the time and was the primary cause of death later.)

Explanation of "Vietnam Era": Officially, the Vietnam Era began on 8/5/64 (three days after the Gulf of Tonkin Incident) and ended on 5/7/75 (seven days after the Fall of Saigon). However, there are some names on the Wall whose KIA dates precede the start date. This may be due to the fact that the first official "in country" service in Vietnam is given as 12/22/61 when the U.S. started to send "advisors" to Vietnam.

In order to honor the memory of your father, SP4 Jerry Jack Dean, your best bet would be to determine what unit that he served with in Vietnam, locate the website dedicated to that unit, and ask the veterans of that unit to post a memorial to your father. There is also a website dedicated to Vietnam Veterans who have died subsequently from causes unrelated to their military service, but I can't remember what it's called. Somebody mentioned it about 9 mo. ago, but I must be getting senile.
