About 2 months ago a young peacock showed up on my property (6 wooded acres in Nebraska) I have 15 hens and he seems to be in love with them. I thought he would leave but he has settled in instead. My questions are as follows; Does he have to have a peahen around to be happy, He roosts in the trees now, if he has shelter in the winter will he go inside to roost at night? Should he stay cooped up all winter? Are peacocks smarter than chickens when it comes to cold or will they forget they have a coop and stay outside all night and freeze? How do I introduce a peahen to him?

go to

where you can find plenty of helpful people who have
peacocks of their own
--------
My peafowls are kept in secure pens (with top wire to keep
peafowls in and predators out)
Why? because a peafowl can fly away and then have NO idea
how to find the way home...unless there is a peafowl
back home to make a loud call to guide him.
A peafowl has a very different nature than a chicken.
My penned peafowls will perch in their coops and rain
shelters because that is where the perches are.
A "free range" peafowl will find the tallest tree to
perch in eve in the worst weather. And no matter how tall
a tree is it can be climbed by a bobcat or cougar.
Hawks and owls fly even better than peafowls.
