(I will use Western Riding pattern III for the first couple lessons)
I take the mare out in my arena which is basically set up like this: a line of cones on each side (throgh the middle) and one ground pole at the start.
We start at a walk on the right side of the arena, then I ask for a jog, she picks it up well. We jog along the cones (betten the cones and the rails) and over the ground pole. The we pick up the left lead, which I have to ask for a couple times. We half circle the first cone one the left side, the cross to the right side cones and pick up the right lead canter, and half circle the second cone in that row. We continue this pattern, and switching leads, which she doesn't do well right now, until we finish it for the third time, we "weave" the next three cones, switching leads twice, then going backwards the other direction (not moving moving backwards, but doing the moves backwards). Once finished we canter straight to the middle, stop and back. We run through the pattern two more times.
