  • He Still Wants Us To Trust Him. -- Cheri, 19:31:12 05/14/09 Thu
He Still Wants Us To Trust Him. He will take care of tomorrow.

The One who came still comes and the One who spoke still speaks.

    Enough for Today

I will cause food to fall like rain from the sky for all of you. Every day
the people must go out and gather what they need for that day.
    Exodus 16:4 (NCV)

God liberated his children from slavery and created a path through the sea.
He gave them a cloud to follow in the day and a fire to see at night. And
he gave them food. He met their most basic need: He filled their bellies.

Each morning the manna came. Each evening the quail appeared. Trust me.
Trust me and I will give you what you need. The people were told to take
just enough for one day. Their needs would be met, one day at a time.

Just take enough for today, was Gods message. Let me worry about
    tomorrow.

The Father wanted people to trust him.

  • Are You Asking? -- Cheri, 17:04:57 02/06/09 Fri
*"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those
    who ask Him!"*

    - (Matthew 7:11 NKJV)

    Are You Asking?

As a dad, I delight in giving gifts to my children. Few things bring more
joy to my heart than watching their faces light up as they open a present
that I know they've wanted for a long time. *Oh, wow, look! I can't believe
it. It's just what I wanted! Thanks, Dad!* In these moments, I honestly do
not know who's enjoying themselves more, them in receiving the gift or me in
    giving it.

These moments also help to reveal God's heart toward us as His children. If
I, a fallen human being who is naturally prone to oppose righteousness,
enjoy giving gifts to my own children, how much more does our perfect
heavenly Father? Jesus made this point in the passage above.

Our Father's heart must be bursting with the desire to bless His children,
yet notice that Jesus followed up this truth with the words *"to those who
ask Him."* This implies that there are those who pray and those who don't
pray. Those who pray pave the way for the Father to bestow His good gifts
upon their lives. But those who don't pray may prevent Him from blessing
    their lives.

The Father is always willing to give, but we aren't always willing to ask.
When we do ask, we open ourselves to receive His good gifts and we bring joy
    to His heart.

*What is God's attitude when it comes to giving gifts to His children?*

*What are some things God wants to bless your life with?

Have you done your part to ask for them?*

    Exodus 20:7

You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse
    his name.

God's Name is special because it encompasses His
personal identity. Using if frivolously or
in a curse is so common today that we may fail to realize
    how serious it is.

The way we use God's Name conveys how we really
feel about Him. We should respect His Name and use it
appropriately, speaking it in praise or worship
rather than in curse or jest. We should not take lightly
the abuse or dishonor of His Name.

Father God, we praise and honor Your Name!
May we never use Your Name lightly or in jest.
You are Lord of All. Our Creator, Sustainer, High
    Priest, and Mighty Savior.

You are Everything to us! May we only use Your
Name to bring You the glory, honor, and praise You
    deserve.

    In Jesus' Holy Name, Amen..

  • The Problem with "The New Morality" -- Cheri Smith, 16:50:10 09/15/08 Mon

The Problem with "The New Morality"

    Read the Word:

    Revelation 13-14

In the aftermath of 9/11, I was interviewed by a number of reporters who
asked how something so horrible, so unthinkable, could take place in the
United States? They couldn't comprehend the capacity of someone who would
kill thousands of people and lose their own lives in the process.

I reminded them that not only is there a God, but there is also a devil. I
told them that humanity is not basically good, as we often hear, but it is
basically bad. I said that the Bible teaches we are sinful to the very core.
Many of them seemed shocked to hear this.

In the weeks following that horrific September day, our churches were packed
as never before. Services at Harvest Christian Fellowship on the Sunday
following 9/11 had the largest attendance in the history of our church. It
was also the greatest response on the part of those making decisions for
    Christ.

It was my hope and prayer that this renewed interest in God would ultimately
lead to a nationwide revival. But that has not happened. In fact, something
quite the opposite has occurred: a resurgence of moral relativism.

Moral relativism can be defined as a lack of moral absolutes. It is the
belief that just because something is true to you doesn't necessarily mean
that it is true to me. Moral relativism teaches that we are all products of
the evolutionary process. There is no evil, there is no devil, and there is
    no God.

Moral relativism teaches that we are all basically good, and if we do
something bad, it is because we are victims, the result of our upbringing or
environment. Moral relativism teaches freedom from all restraint.

But the irony is that if you disagree with these things, then you are
insensitive. If you have the audacity to say you believe there is right and
wrong and good and evil, then you are classified as insensitive, intolerant,
bigoted, and narrow-minded. If you dare to quote the Bible and say it is the
source of truth, then you will be accused of pushing your puritanical belief
    system on others.

Yet biblical Christianity teaches that Jesus Christ is the only way to God.
When someone says he or she believes in God, but that Jesus isn't
necessarily the only way, I can assure you, on the authority of Scripture,
that such a person cannot be a Christian and believe this. If you truly are
a Christian, then you must believe what the Bible says. You cannot make up
    the rules as you go.

I cannot get into my car today and say, "I have made up a new rule. I think
it is OK for me to drive 120 miles per hour." I cannot walk into a store and
say, "I believe it is OK for me to take whatever I want. It is mine for the
    taking."

Of course, I can choose to believe these things, but I will have a new
prison ministry very soon. There are rules. There are absolutes. Whether I
believe in them or not, those absolutes are still true.

Therefore, when it comes to the Bible, we cannot pick and choose what we
will believe and what we will not. It's a package deal. We take it the way
    God gave it.

Yet we have removed God's absolutes from our culture. We have done our best
to take God out of the classroom, out of the courtroom, and out of
everything we can. Then we are amazed to see chaos breaking out as a result.

But this should not surprise us, because the basis of morality is belief.
The basis of belief is the Bible, which gives us the absolute truth that we
can base our faith on. When we say there is no right and wrong, when we do
not have this belief, then the result will be chaos.

We have to get back to what God says. Solomon, after sampling everything
this world had to offer, said, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole
matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all"
    (Ecclesiastes 12:13 NKJV).

If anyone could ever say they had been there, done that, and bought the
T-shirt, it would be Solomon. He had violated many of God's commandments.
Yet after all was said and done, Solomon concluded, "Fear God and keep His
    commandments. "

God has given us His commandments for our own good: to show us how to live
    our lives.

    Dare to be different...

How can you know beyond a doubt that Jesus Christ really is the Son of God, the way to salvation? The answer is simple: Try Him! Simply humble yourself and sincerely ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Ask Him to come into your heart, forgive you for all your sins, and fill your life with His love, peace and joy.

Jesus is real and He loves you--so much so that He suffered for your sins
and died in your place so that you wouldn't have to, if you'll just receive Him and His forgiveness and His free gift of eternal life. But He can't save you unless you want Him to. His love is all-powerful, but He won't force His way into your life.

Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. If anyone hears My
voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." (Revelation 3:20) He gently knocks at the door of your heart. He doesn't break it down or force His way in. He stands there meekly, lovingly, patiently, waiting for you to open your life and ask Him in.

Will you receive Him? If so, He will be your closest friend and companion,
who will be with you always! He came for love and lived in love and died for love, that we might live and love forever!

You can receive Jesus into your heart right now by sincerely praying this
    simple prayer:

"Dear Jesus, please forgive me for all the wrongs I've done. I believe
that You are the Son of God and that You died for me. I open the door to my heart and invite You to come in. Please come in, Jesus, and give me eternal life. Then help me to share Your love and truth with others. Amen."

God has promised to answer your prayer, so you are now His child. And He
has said that He will never leave you nor forsake you! He loves you that much!

  • Life's most important choices... -- Cheri, 16:36:21 10/03/03 Fri

    LIFE'S MOST IMPORTANT CHOICES

    by Brother bob...<><

The Bible is full of wonderful assurance and promise for all who believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. But each person must accept Jesus as his or her own personal saviour before he can claim these promises personally. How can these promises be yours? The Bible tells us that each of us must.....

RECOGNIZE that you cannot be saved by trying to be good, or by doing the best you can, or because you are a member of a social group or religious organization.......for God says that we are not saved by our good works......

For by grace you are saved, and that not of yourselves... it is the gift of God, not of works,
    lest any man should boast.

     (Ephesians 2:8-9)

The wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life,
    through Jesus Christ our Lord

      (Romans 6: 23)

But we are all as an unclean thing,
    and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf;
and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

    (Isaiah 6: 46)

CONFESS that you can not save yourself...in fact there is nothing you can do to undo any of the sins you have already commited, or change their consequences. You need to be forgiven for commiting these sins, and for rebelling against the will and holiness of the Living God. The forgiveness you need must be a divine act of God, because of His mercy which He extends to us. The Bible says...

If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

    (1 John 1:8-9)

" What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven! What joys when sins are covered over!
What relief for those who have confessed their sins and God has cleared their record.
There was a time when I wouldn't admit what a sinner I was. But my dishonesty made me miserable
and filled my days with frustration.

All day and all night your hand was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water on a sunny day, until I finally admitted all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them.

I said to myself, "I will confess them to the Lord." And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.

Now I say that each believer should confess his sins to God when he is aware of them,
while there is time to be forgiven.
Judgment will not touch him if he does.

     (Psalm 32:1-6   THE LIVING BIBLE)...

BELIEVE the good news that Jesus Christ, God's Son, died to pay the the penalty for your sins. He therefore died for you and settled your debt from sin by His death on Calvary's cross. Believe the blessed news that Christ was raised from the dead, and now lives in eternity to save all those who will come to Him by faith. All promises and spiritual powers are released to a christian through our response of believing the revealed Word of God.

This Good News tells us that God makes us ready for heaven-- makes us right in God's sight--
when we put our faith and trust in Christ to save us. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith.

As the Scripture says it, "The man who finds life will find it through trusting God."

    Rom 1:17 (TLB)

He that believes on the Son of God has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God remains on him.

    (John 3:36)

He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believeth not God has made him a liar; because he does not believe the record that God gave of his Son.
    And this is the record,
that God has given to us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
    He that has the Son has life;
and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.
These things have I written unto you
that believe on the name of the Son of God;         that you may know that you have eternal life,
and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.
    (1 John 5:10- 13)

HUMBLE YOURSELF before God in prayer. Talk to God, just like you would talk to a good friend, and yet reverence Him because of the Almighty and Holy God that He is. See Him as the Creator and Lord of the universe, the sovereign King over all.... and yet He is kindly and forgiving to the person who will turn away from pride and self-involvement, and submit himself to the safekeeping of God.

      For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy;
I dwell in the high and holy place,
with him also that is of a bruised and humble spirit; to revive the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

    (Isaiah 57:15)

    Thus saith the LORD,
The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that you build unto me?
and where is the place of my rest?
For all those things has mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look,
even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

     (Isa 66:1-2)

CALL on Jesus Christ, Himself, to save you and to come into your soul, and to make you a new person. The christian life is not a list of do's and don'ts, of religious rituals or observances..it is rather a personal, living, eternal   relationship between you and Jesus Christ. Jesus says....

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock:
if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will fellowship with him,
    and he with me.

    (Rev 3:20)

The door Jesus is talking about is the entrance to your innermost being... your soul or heart..the real you. It is the crossroads of acceptance or refusal. On the one hand, do I accept the free offer of eternal life and fellowship with God, that He is offering, or do I refuse His kindness and go my own way and continue in my sinful behavior? Jesus Christ wants to live inside your soul with you, in the person of the Holy Spirit, to guide you and give you comfort for life's difficult journey, and to give you a purpose for living. Where there was only confusion and aimless drifting before, now there will be peace and purposeful activity. What is your response?

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil,
to give you an expected end.
Then shall you call upon me,
and you shall go and pray unto me,
and I will listen and respond to you.

And you shall seek me, and find me,
when you shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD:

    (Jeremiah 29:11-14) .

RELY upon God's promises in the Bible, not on your feelings or worldly teachings. Your life is new from this point forward...the old things must be thrown out and forsaken....Old sinful habits must be done away with by the power of Christ Who now lives inside you. You may never have had the power to overcome these things before, but Christ in you can overcome them by the Power of the Holy Spirit who lives in you now...
Old opinions and ways of thinking must be replaced by God's Words and instructions from the Bible. You must consciously choose to do things God's way, and to leave behind old opinions and ways of thinking and acting when the Bible tells you that your way is wrong. This is how spiritual growth occurs.

    Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.

    (2 Cor 5:17)

And so, dear brothers, I plead with you
to give your bodies to God.
Let them be a living sacrifice,
    holy--the kind he can accept.
When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask?

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person
with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience
how His ways will really satisfy you.

    (Rom 12:1-2 LIVING BIBLE)

TELL someone else about your decision to receive Christ, and what He has done for you...tell your family, your friends, your co-workers or fellow students. Tell the people who have wronged you in the past. Forgive them with the Holy forgiving attitude of Christ, just as you were forgiven by Him.
And plan to be baptized in your local church, as a testimony to your faith in Christ, and plan to attend a Bible- believing , Christ-centered church. Become involved in its ministries, and get to know with your new family in Christ. As Jesus said.......

    He told his disciples,

"I have been given all authority in heaven and earth.
Therefore go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and then teach these new disciples
to obey all the commands I have given you; and be sure of this--
that I am with you always,
even to the end of the world."

    (Mat 28:18-20 LIVING BIBLE)

WALK AND TALK every day in fellowship with Jesus. Someone has once described fellowship as "two fellows in the same ship". The ship is your body and soul... the two fellows are you and Jesus. You have the privilege of sailing through the waters of life, calm or rough, with Jesus as your Captain and Navigator. He knows the way to get you to His destination safely and with maximum spiritual profit. Talk to Him continually through the day. Ask for His strength, His guidance, for the words to speak, for the necessities of life and ministry. Praise Him continually for His care and provision. Jesus puts if this way.

    If you love me, obey me;
and I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, and he will never leave you.

He is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him,
for it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you do,
for he lives with you now and some day shall be in you.
No, I will not abandon you or leave you as orphans in the storm-- I will come to you.
In just a little while I will be gone from the world, but I will still be present with you.

For I will live again--and you will too. When I come back to life again,
you will know that I am in my Father,
and you in me, and I in you.

The one who obeys me is the one who loves me; and because he loves me, my Father will love him; and I will too, and I will reveal myself to him."

Judas (not Judas Iscariot, but his other disciple with that name) said to him, "Sir, why are you going to reveal yourself only to us disciples and not to the world at large?"

Jesus replied, "Because I will only reveal myself to those who love me and obey me.
The Father will love them too,
and we will come to them and live with them.

Anyone who doesn't obey me doesn't love me. And remember, I am not making up this answer to your question! It is the answer given by the Father who sent me.

"I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. But when the Father sends the Comforter instead of me--

and by the Comforter I mean the Holy Spirit-- he will teach you much,
as well as remind you of everything I myself have told you.

"I am leaving you with a gift--peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid.

Remember what I told you--I am going away, but I will come back to you again.
If you really love me, you will be very happy for me, for now I can go to the Father, who is greater than I am.

I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do, you will believe in me.

  • A walk with Jesus.... -- Cheri, 21:16:39 08/22/03 Fri
    A Walk With Jesus

If you could take a walk with Jesus
If He could spend some time with you,

Would you walk through fields of flowers,
    Sprinkled with the morning dew?

If you could take a walk with Jesus,
Would you walk beside the sea?

Or would you walk out in the forest,
So you could rest beneath the trees?

If you could take a walk with Jesus,
What would you say to him?

Would you spend the time complaining,
About your family and your friends?

If you could take a walk with Jesus,
Would you grumble about your job?

Would you choose your words with caution,
As you walked with the Son of God?

Now before you give your answer,
Give careful thought to what you'll say.

Though you may not have noticed,
    Jesus walked with you today.

  • Salvation FREE and Eternal -- Cecil Spivey, 13:30:04 06/10/05 Fri
    Salvation FREE and Eternal
    By – Cecil Spivey

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:15-18

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.] My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. John 10:27-29

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Acts 13:38-39

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Romans 4:5

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:33-39

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. Romans 11:6

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 1 Cor. 15:1-5

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph. 2:8-9

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Titus 3:5

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13

ONLY ONE CROSS FOR ALL DISPENSATIONS

Now it is quite true that God has different ages and dispensations and different programs with people but none of the dispensational or racial differences in any way affect the "gospel of Christ" that was foreordained for the salvation of any member of Adam's family that would "call upon the name of the Lord". Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13; Acts 10:43; 15:10-11; 13:38-39. (Please honestly read these.) Though all penitent believers in Christ have His death baptism and His burial and resurrection put to their credit.

    P. S.

If all the above Scriptures does not teach that the True Believer has Eternal life now and can not lose it. God’s word has no meaning. If you could loose Salvation, you could not be saved again no more than you can be born into the human family two times. You are born into the human family only once and you are born into God’s family only once.

  • GODS Dwelling is Holy -- Pastore Franszwa (Make no mistake), 03:03:28 12/09/06 Sat
    The Temple of GOD
Acts 2:17 "`In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 1Colassians 1:26-27-2826 For ages and ages this message was kept (disregarded ,cover up, ignored ) by our Christian leaders from everyone, [for satans benefit ], but now it has been explained to God's people.
27 God did this because he wanted you Gentiles to understand his wonderful and glorious mystery. And the mystery is that Christ lives in you, and he is your hope of sharing in God's glory.
28 We announce the message about Christ, and we use all our wisdom to warn and teach everyone, so that all of Christ's followers will grow and become mature.
29 That's why I work so hard and use the mighty power he gives me.
Now then, it is unmistakable clear that satan or his demons can not enter Gods Holy Temple
to devour or posses us anymore. As soon As we realize of the reality of Jesus Christ in us,
it would drastically change our attitude, emotions and actions.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?
1 Corinthians 3:17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, [ and you are that temple. ]
    1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, [ who is in you, ] whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
1 Corinthians 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
1 Corinthians 6:20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
John 2:21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body
Acts 7:48 "However, the Most High does not live in houses made by men. As the prophet says: He now lives in those who make Jesus their Lord.

Acts 17:25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.
Romans 8:9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.
Romans 8:10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him( YAHWEH ) who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he( YAHWEH ) who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his(YAHWEH) Spirit, who lives in you.
    Exodus 15:26 He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees ;

  • In A Hundred Years Time..... -- Cheri, 17:46:13 01/29/07 Mon

    In A Hundred Years Time

In a hundred years time it won't matter
if the house you've lived in wasn't done,
the garden and outside wasn't finished,
or the chores not even begun.

In a hundred years time it won't matter
if the paint still sat in the tin,
that was meant for the wall in the study.
would it really be such a sin?

In a hundred years time it won't matter
if that shiny new car was not yours?
Or that fancy new watch you'd admired
still sat in the case at the stores?

In a hundred years time it won't matter
if you were never on TV,
    You'd never reached Hollywood stardom
or even been in a movie.

At sunset a graveyard is quiet
As you quietly move through the leaves
You'll see life summed up on each headstone.
What kind of treasures are these?

Store up your treasures in heaven
where thieves and moths cannot find.
Love God, love your neighbor as yourself
    be patient, gentle, and kind.

    Live today and enjoy it.
    Grasp every moment you can.
For life is the eternal race-
No winners, it's just that you ran.

    This week's promise:

God is a refuge for the oppressed

this is God whose dwelling is
    holy.

    Psalm 68:5 NLT

    __________________________________________

From skull basher to brain healer........

Fourteen-year- old Ben was on the fast track to prison. The African-American
youth had no father, was failing every class at school, and had a ferocious
temper. He once tore open a classmate's forehead with a rock and even
threatened his own mother with a hammer.

But instead of ending up in prison, Ben landed in a hospital—one of the most
prestigious in the world. Today he is Dr. Ben Carson, chief pediatric
neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. How did he turn his life
    around?

The first person to stop Ben's one-way trip to prison was his mother. She
took him to church and turned off the TV. She made him read several books a
week and write reports on them.

But his mother couldn't control Ben's terrible temper. One day he became
outraged at another boy and tried to stab him in the abdomen, but the blade
struck the boy's belt buckle and broke. Suddenly Ben realized what he was
doing. Horrified, he ran home, locked himself in the bathroom, and fell to
his knees. "Lord," he prayed, "I cannot control this temper. It's up to
you—I'm giving it over to you."

Ben spent three hours closeted in the bathroom, wrestling with God in prayer
and Scripture meditation. When he finally emerged, his temper was gone—never
    to return.

As Carson describes in his autobiography, Gifted Hands, in that cataclysmic
experience, he realized how God could actually be the father he had lacked—
    a father to the fatherless."

  • WHEN CHRIST COMES -- -- -- Cheri, 20:48:55 09/19/06 Tue

    WHEN CHRIST COMES - - -
    By Max Lucado

You are in your car driving home. Thoughts wander to
The game you want to see or meal you want to eat, when suddenly a sound
unlike any you've ever heard fills the air. The sound is high above you. A
trumpet? A choir?A choir of trumpets?
You don't know, but you want to know.

So you pull over, get out of your car, and look up. As
You do, you see you aren't the only curious one. The roadside has become a
parking lot. Car doors are open, and people are staring at the sky. Shoppers
    are racing
    Out of the grocery store.

The Little League baseball game across the street has
Come to a halt. Players and parents are searching the clouds. And what they
see, and what you see, has never before been seen.

As if the sky were a curtain, the drapes of the
Atmosphere part. A brilliant light spills onto the
Earth. There are no shadows. None. From whence came
The light begins to tumble a river of color sparkling crystals of every hue
ever seen and a million more never seen. Riding on the flow is an endless
fleet of angels. They pass through the curtains one myriad at a time, until
they occupy every square inch of the sky.

    North.
    South.
    East.
    West.

Thousands of silvery wings rise and fall in unison,
And over the sound of the trumpets, you can hear the cherubim and seraphim
chanting, Holy, holy, holy. The final flank of angels is followed by
twenty-four silver-bearded elders and a multitude of souls who join the
    angels in worship.

Presently the movement stops and the trumpets are
Silent, leaving only the triumphant triplet: Holy, holy, holy. Between each
word is a pause. With each word, a profound reverence. You hear your voice
join in the chorus. You don't know why you say the words, but you know you
    must.

Suddenly, the heavens are quiet. All is quiet. The angels turn, you
Turn, the entire world turns and there He is. Jesus.

Through waves of light you see the silhouetted figure of Christ the
King. He is atop a great stallion, and the stallion is atop a billowing
    cloud.

He opens his mouth, and you are surrounded by his
Declaration: I am the Alpha and the Omega.

The angels bow their heads. The elders remove their
Crowns. And before you is a Figure so consuming that you know, instantly you
know: Nothing else matters. Forget stock markets and school reports. Sales
meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy.. All that mattered,
matters no more.... For Christ has come. . .

This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven,
He saw me, and he asked: My child, what is your greatest wish for today? I
responded:"Lord please; take care of the person who is reading this message,
their family and their special friends. They deserve it and Ilove them very
    much"

Jesus is coming back..we must be ready.

  • Focus on Jesus... -- Cheri, 18:20:53 02/23/06 Thu

    Focus On Jesus

True Christianity is not a religion based on rules and rituals
but a living relationship with Jesus Christ.

Many people reduce Christianity down to attending church
meetings and trying not to commit a list of certain sins.

But being a Christian is being united with Jesus, a member of
His body, with His life in your heart.

Jesus should be your focus -- not religious activity -- but the
person of Jesus, the Lord and Christ.

    1 CORINTHIANS 1:9 NIV
9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus
    Christ our Lord, is faithful.

Church meetings, Bible reading, etc. can be good, but should
not be allowed to become an end in themselves. They are tools
to help us know Jesus and walk more closely with Him.

The Bible says we are to be faithful; but faithful to what: a
religious system, an organization -- or, a Person? Are you
serving Jesus -- or serving something else as His substitute?

The focus of your life should be to please Jesus.

    COLOSSIANS 1:18 NRSV
18 He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning,
the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have
    first place in everything.

Does Jesus have first place in your life? In your schedule? If
    not, why not?

In everything, Jesus should be central.

SAY THIS: I will keep my focus on Jesus Christ.

God desires for us to know what He has freely given to us. One of the responsibilities of the Holy Spirit is to reveal His plans and purposes to us. They may be hidden for a time, but if we seek Him with our whole heart, we can know what He has given to us.

John the Baptist understood this principle. When asked if he was the Messiah, he replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven" (Jn. 3:27). John understood his role in the Kingdom of God. He came to pave the way for the Messiah; he was not the Messiah himself. His ministry on earth was very brief, yet Jesus described his life in this way: " 'I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he' " (Mt. 11:11).

Once we understand what God has given to us, we can walk freely in our calling. However, if we strive to walk in a role that He never gave us, it will result in frustration and failure. God wants to reveal His plan to us by His Spirit. This requires a willingness to seek and accept what He gives us. It may be different from what we thought. It may require adjustments to follow His path for our lives. As we learn from the life of John the Baptist, obedience requires death to our own wills.

Ask God to reveal what He has freely given to you. Pray that you receive and embrace only those things He has reserved for you to receive and to accomplish in your life. Then you can be assured of a life full of meaning and purpose, and you can look forward to hearing those all-important words someday, "Well done, My good and faithful servant."

Hi there. I'm sorry you and your friend are going through this. You might think along the lines of nerve pinching if all other blood tests for WNV, EPM, etc. have come back negative. He may have twisted his spinal process somewhere and it may be pressing on a nerve. Do you have a good Equine Chiropractor in your area? Try giving him/her a call.

  • Arab in distress -- Kasii, 23:29:10 05/29/05 Sun
I have a 14 year old Arab that is the light of my life. I have has him since he was 3 months old. He has always been in great health. However, within the last 3 weeks he has displayed some rather dangerous symptoms. He has become uncoordinated and weak in both his front and rear legs. When I pick his hind legs up, they have a tendency to want to draw up and out. They also lingers much too long in the air before he can put them back down on the ground. When picked up, his front legs want to push out and up.

He still has a good appetite, although he now takes a longer time to actually consume his food. He still drinks and is functional in all other areas of his facilities. There are no visible signs of trauma or injury. My vet has tested for just about everything under the sun. So far everything has come back negative. (I vaccinate against West Niles every 6 months.) He says he has never seen anything like this in his years of practice. We are presently treating him with Dexamethason and antibiotics. I believe this treatment is only starving off the symptoms. I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar or have any information that may help me with a diagnosis. The vet is now leaning towards a spinal tap. Has anyone actually experienced this procedure? I appreciate any help that is given. Regards. Carole

  • English Riding Boots -- Karen Westbrooks, 05:50:52 05/16/05 Mon
My 9 year old daughter is in the 3rd grade. She works very hard in school and has always made the honor roll. 11 weeks ago she asked the Lord to help her find a way to get horse riding lessons. My daughter has now had horse riding lessons for the last 9 weeks. I'm sure you all know these lessons are NOT cheap. My husband and I work VERY hard for whatever money we have. Everytime we have agreed that we really can't afford the lessons or equipment anymore we are blessed with the means for her to continue. When we were told she would need riding pants, the Lord provided them, I met a lady at the grocery store and after talking in line for a moment we discovered she had the right size pair of pants in her car on the way to the thrift store and she gave them to me. One week when we were short on money for her lesson a relative called and said that she had done some work for the stable and they had given her a free lesson my daughter could use. I beleive that the Lord plans to use my daughter in some way or for someone through horses and riding. So, why am I here? I need a pair of size 2 girls english boot, used is great, anything that will help her continue her lessons. I know the Lord will provide them. She is a gifted child and would be very grateful if you could help out in this way! I would be too!!! Thank you and God Bless!!!

  • Through His Eyes.... -- Cheri, 05:05:05 04/30/05 Sat

    Through His Eyes

But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Matthew 9:36

Everywhere Jesus went, He was very much in demand. There was always a crowd around Him, and understandably so. He was God in human form, walking through their streets. Everyone wanted something. There would be those who always wanted a touch, like the woman who had spent all of her money on doctors, trying to be cured, but to no avail. When she touched the hem of His garment she was restored and healed. There is the story of the Syro-Phoenician woman who brought her demon-possessed child to Jesus, and the story of Jairus, who came and asked Jesus to touch his sick daughter.

Everyone needed something, but Jesus knew they needed more than just a healing, more than just a touch, and more than just a word. He knew the deepest need was in their soul. We see this demonstrated time and again. Despite His incredibly busy schedule, He went out of His way to meet someone in a little town where Jacob's well was located, even though she had no idea she had an appointment with God. She went to that well at that time of day, because she was a social outcast.

Sometimes when people do things that are wrong, we get angry with them. Not only do we hate the sin, but we end up hating the sinner also. Yet God wants us to see that while we can hate the sin, there is still a sinner who is loved by God. Maybe no one has ever told him or her there is another way to live. May God give us eyes to see this world as He sees it.

  • Every Good Gift... -- Cheri, 00:42:48 03/10/05 Thu
Every Good Gift Is From Above

    JAMES 1:17

17 Every gift which is good, and every perfect gift, is from above, and comes down from the Father, who is the source of all Light. In Him there is no variation nor the slightest suggestion of change.

Whatever good that you enjoy in life is because of God. Because of His love for you, He created it.

Do you enjoy eating good food? Who designed that food? Who planned it all out so you could have it and enjoy it?

Do you enjoy beautiful scenes in nature -- sunsets, flowers, butterflies, wild animals, mountains? God created them all for your pleasure.

Do you enjoy a mother's love? God created mothers and put within them the capacity to love their children.

Do you enjoy the love of a spouse? God created them and put within them the capacity to love you.

    I could go on.

When you think this through, you realize that God actually loves you and helps you through other people. He put the love within them - - so He is the ultimate source of the love you receive from others.

Everything good about life is attributable to God. Everything that we enjoy -- He created it, or the raw materials and the ability for humans to produce it.

As you think of all this, I hope you are struck with two thoughts: I would like to be closer to this kind of God, and I should be more thankful to God for more things than I have been.

SAY THIS: Thank you God my Father for all the good you have created, designed, and provided for me.

  • Trust Is... -- Cheri, 04:03:45 01/21/05 Fri
    Trust Is ...

Honoring God as the only One with all answers for our circumstances.

    Seeking God for those answers.

    Waiting for God's answer.

    Listening for God's answer.

Receiving what God has revealed as all we yet need to know.

    Walking in that faith.

Believing God will continue to give instruction, as needed.

    Letting God do the rest.

Respecting the character of God knowing, when He gives a promise, He has to be faithful because God cannot lie.

Accountability in not calling God a liar.

Remembering what God has done for us already.

Accepting that God has proved Himself trustworthy to trust again.

Realizing we can even ask God for help with our unbelief.

Acknowledging that God is not a respecter of persons, that however He loved the people of old, He actually wants to love us, too.

Recognizing whenever something touches our heart, that is God; as that is where He dwells.

Discovering that God will always do the most loving thing possible.

Putting the weight of the world back on God's shoulders, where it belongs.

Running to Father's arms; knowing He will catch us every time.

Faith to stand against all evil; as per God's individual instruction.

    Living above fear.

Seeing God as infallible and undefeatable.

Freedom to be the person God created us to be.

Rejoicing in that God is not finished with us, yet!

The more we come to know and experience God, the greater our trust ~ because He is always faithful. Doubt diminishes and our faith increases ... 'til we finally learn that there is no one we can trust more than Him, not even ourselves.

    "HE SAID IT!"

    by Max Lucado

God's efforts are strongest when our efforts are useless.

Go back to Bethesda for a moment. I want you to look at the brief but revealing dialogue between the paralytic and the Savior. Before Jesus heals him, he asks him a question: "Do you want to be well?"
"Sir, there is no one to help me get into the pool when the water starts moving. While I am coming to the water, someone else always gets in before me" (John 5:7).

Is the fellow complaining? Is he feeling sorry for himself? Or is he just stating the facts? Who knows. But before we think about it too much, look what happens next.
"'Stand up. Pick up your mat and walk.'"
"And immediately the man was well; he picked up his mat and began to walk."

I wish we would do that; I wish we would take Jesus at his word. I wish, like heaven, that we would learn that when he says something, it happens. What is this peculiar paralysis that confines us? What is this stubborn unwillingness to be healed? When Jesus tells us to stand, let's stand.

When he says we're forgiven, let's unload the guilt. When he says we're valuable, let's believe him. When he says we're eternal, let's bury our fear. When he says we're provided for, let's stop worrying. When he says, "Stand up," let's do it.

I love the story of the private who ran after and caught the runaway horse of Napoleon. When he brought the animal back to the emperor, Napoleon thanked him by saying, "Thank you, Captain."

With one word the private was promoted. When the emperor said it, the private believed it. He went to the quartermaster, selected a new uniform, and put it on. He went to the officers' quarters and selected a bunk. He went to the officers' mess and had a meal.
Because the emperor said it, he believed it. Would that we would do the same.

Is this your story? It can be. All the elements are the same. A gentle stranger has stepped into your hurting world and offered you a hand.

Now it's up to you to take it.

  • John 14:1 -- Cheri, 16:27:18 11/15/04 Mon

    GodToday_Devotions

    ~ John 14:1 ~

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me."

Many times we anticipate trouble before it comes. What is going to happen to our children? Will we remain healthy? This situation is going to depress me. All of this anticipating of what may be; eventually turns itself to worry, which in turn creates fear.

God wants us to give our cares to Him, at which point we trust Him to carry them and there is no longer a need for us to either worry or fear. We cannot completely trust and continue to worry about the possibilities of what may be in the future. God loves us with His perfect love.

1 John 4:8 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. God does not want His children to be fearful and tormented. It is His Spirit that dwells within us it is not a spirit of fear.

2 Timothy 1:7 " For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.

So throw out the worry and fear and trust in God, Who gives us strength. We are able to be more than conquerors through Christ which strengthens us. We can rest in His abilities, His promises, and His faithfulness.

    Prayer...

Fill us with your perfect love, and let it cast out all our fears and worry. Free us from our anxiety so that we may walk with You without fear. Your perfect love is all that can take them away. Deepen our faith and help us to trust You completely, Amen

  • The Barracuda.... -- Cheri, 06:13:15 10/08/04 Fri

    The Barracuda

    ==============

Scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute did the following study:

It's a widely known fact that Barracuda love to eat mullet.

Scientists put a barracuda into an aquarium, added a glass partition in the middle and then put a mullet in the other side.

Not believing his good luck the barracuda circled a few times, gathered up speed and launched directly at his lunch - the poor unsuspecting mullet.

Wham! Bam! Full throttle into the glass partition.
Unfazed at this, the barracuda did his preliminary circles and sped off again toward the mullet. Again, Wham! Bang! into the glass partition.

Again and again and again he tried. Some weeks later, the scientists noticed the barracuda quit trying to eat the mullet, so they removed the glass partition.

Amazingly, the barracuda remained in his side of the aquarium, silently swimming in circles.

In fact, the hapless barracuda slowly died of starvation while the lucky mullet swam about in safety just a few inches away!

Many of us are like that barracuda – hurt, bruised and wounded from many previous collisions with life.

We've given up, our lives have become unproductive, lifeless, hopeless, without goal, purpose or meaning.

Around and around we go, going nowhere... silently, starving to death... while just a few millimeters away there is a prize to be collected,
    a blessing to be claimed,
    a job to be had,
    a relationship to begin,
    an education to be gained,
    earnings to be earned.

I took this advice seriously and let me tell you, the mullet is delicious!!!

  • Happy Life..... -- Cheri, 06:23:40 09/03/04 Fri

    Have A Happy Life....

    1 PETER 3:10-11 NLT

10 For the Scriptures say, "If you want a happy life and good days, keep your tongue from speaking evil, and keep your lips from telling lies.

11 Turn away from evil and do good. Work hard at living in peace with others.

Why just tolerate life when you can have a happy life?

Obviously, you have some choice in the matter, according to these verses. So, make the obvious choice, and ask God to help you.

Notice that the first instructions given in these verses concern the words you speak.
What you say is enormously important, according to the Bible. Yet, most believers are unaware of the importance Scripture places on the words they speak.

Why not ask God right now to help you understand and apply this instruction, so you can reap the benefits?

SAY THIS: Thank you, Lord for giving me a happy life and good days. Thank you for helping me not to speak evil or tell lies. Thank you for helping me to avoid evil, do good, and live in peace.

  • How does God feel about me? -- Cheri, 02:09:06 08/20/04 Fri

How Does God Feel About Me?

    Max Lucado

"Because he delights in me, he saved me." (Ps. 18:19)

A few years back, we had a banner year at our house. Our third daughter learned how to swim. That meant that three could walk. Three could swim. And two out of the three had the training wheels off their bikes. With each achievement they have delightedly pointed out, "Look, Dad, I can do it on my own."

My wife, Denalyn, and I have applauded and celebrated each accomplishment our daughters have made. Their maturity and mobility is good and necessary, but I hope they never get to the point where they are too grown up to call their daddy.

God feels the same way about us.
Other times we don't feel independent; we feel insignificant. We think, "Sure, Mary can take her problems to Jesus. She's his mother. He doesn't want to hear my problems. I don't want to trouble him with my messes." If that is your thought, may I share with you a favorite verse of mine? I like it so much I wrote it on the first page of my Bible.

"Because he delights in me, he saved me." (Ps. 18:19)

And you thought he saved you because of your decency. You thought he saved you because of your good works or good attitude or good looks. Sorry. If that were the case, your salvation would be lost when your voice went south or your works got weak.

There are many reasons God saves you: to bring glory to himself, to appease his justice, to demonstrate his sovereignty. But one of the sweetest reasons God saved you is because he is fond of you. He likes having you around. He thinks you are the best thing to come down the pike in quite awhile.

"As a man rejoices over his new wife, so your God will rejoice over you." (Isaiah 62:5)

  • Living Water..... -- Cheri, 22:02:27 07/31/04 Sat

    I Am the Living Water.....

    Definition:

Jesus is the water that brings life to the soul. By drinking the living water one can live and never thirst again. Jesus is that Living Water.

    Meaning:

Water was scarce in Jesus' day, yet water was as much a necessity for life then as it is today. Just as the physical body needs water to continue living so does the spirit. Jesus is the water needed by the spiritual part of man. Without Him the soul will eventually die. The soul is thirsty and we try to quench that thirst with many things that satisfy for awhile, but eventually we get thirsty again. The only thing that can truly quench the thirst of the spirit is the living water, Jesus Christ.

    Scripture Support:

    John 7:38 (KJV)
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

    John 4:1-38 (KJV)
When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) 3 He left Judæa, and departed again into Galilee. 4 And he must needs go through Samaria. 5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. 16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. 27 And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? 28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him. 31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? 34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

    Conclusion:

Jesus is the only thing that can quench the thirst of the spirit. Anything or anyone else will only wear out and leave the spirit thirsty again. Therefore, Jesus is what my spirit needs in order for me to be able to live eternally with Him. Without the Living Water my spiritual body will die just as my physical body would if I didn't drink any water or other liquids.

    Application:

I will quench my spiritual thirst with Jesus, the Living Water, by looking to Him each day. I will also share the Living Water with others by telling them about Jesus and how He can quench their spiritual thirst like He does mine.

  • Coffee Break ~ Sin or sacred? -- Cheri, 05:30:48 07/17/04 Sat

    "Sin Or Sacred?"

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"
    Isaiah 5:20

I accidentally came across a web site tonight and the title of one of the articles caught my attention. It was entitled, "Bush's Sacramental Tyranny". Naturally my curiosity led me to read it. I have to confess that just when I think peoples reasoning has gone as far as it can go, I come across the "Granddaddy of false reasoning"... this article was just that. This article was in defense of homosexual marriages and called theses marriages a sacrament- just like baptism or last rites.

While I agree that marriage (between a man and a woman) is a sacred institution ordained God... homosexual relationships are NOT; they are SIN. You can defend it, you can try to justify it, you can get sympathy for it, you can take a vote on it, you can rename it, and even put another label on it, but it will always be sin- not a sacrament.

The article accused President Bush and the government of defining what constitutes marriage- "The government should stay out of the business of dictating definitions for spiritual matters such as marriage." Their first mistake was in accusing the wrong person. If they have a problem with this they should take it up with the One who gave us the original definition in the first place. God defines marriage; God defines what is sin; God defines what is sacred; God defines what is evil and wicked. You can't change the meaning of something just because it doesn't suit you- besides even if you do it's still the same thing. "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet." Sin by any other name is still sin. So, the word to us this morning... You can't redefine sin and make it acceptable; you can't call it sacred and make it so.

Have a great day. If God calls it sin... it doesn't matter what you call it, it is still sin.

  • Sunday's Verse.... -- Cheri, 20:16:33 07/04/04 Sun

    Sunday's Verse/ thought / prayer

    SUNDAY

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

    --Proverbs 14:34

    New International Version

    THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY'S VERSE...

Wow, what an indictment. When we vote according to our pocketbook more than character and when we excuse the indiscretions, infidelities, and illegalities in the leaders of both political parties, we have reached a very sad state indeed! But before we rant and rave about the sad state of morality in our public officials, let's make sure we're honest in our own daily lives, that we don't say cruel things about others, that we remain faithful to our marriage and our purity vows to God, and let's make sure that we expect of ourselves higher standards than we do of others.

    MY PRAYER...

God, you are not only the Almighty, you are holy! Holy, Holy, Holy are you, the LORD God Almighty. May the whole earth be filled with your glory and may that glory be shown in what I do and say. Forgive me for my own sin and hypocrisy. Bless me with purity and holiness as I pledge my life to your glory. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

  • Either God is real...or He is not! -- Cheri, 01:11:49 06/30/04 Wed

EITHER GOD IS REAL...OR HE IS NOT!!!

One of the things that has greatly
troubled me recently, is the number of people who say that they believe in God, say that they are a Christian, yet have no problem supporting choices that are clearly defined in God's Word as sin.

My friend, Jesus said it best when He said that "no man can serve two masters." The Christian faith is not a smorgasbord where you can pick and choose what you like. You can't claim to have faith in Christ, yet support the things that the Bible speaks against. To borrow a political term, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A CHRISTIAN MODERATE . Either God is real, or He is not.

Let me first clarify what a Christian is. A Christian is a person who has made the personal choice to repent of their sins and ask Jesus into their heart by faith (John 3:16, Romans 10:10, Ephesians 2:8,9). It is your personal faith in Christ that makes you a Christian. The church you belong to cannot save you. Having a priest or pastor baptize you when you were a baby did not save you. Living a good life does not save you.
The fact that your parents are Christians cannot save you. Only making the choice to repent of your sins and ask Christ into your heart makes you a Christian.

***If this is something that you have never done, the Bible says that TODAY is the day of salvation. Pray, ask God to open your heart, then click on this link and read what is written:

    Click Link Here .

God has made it so easy, but it is a choice that only YOU can make.
Once you have gotten to this point, the next step is that you MUST accept the Bible as God's inspired, inerrant Word. ***It is IMPOSSIBLE to be a Christian and not accept the Bible as God's Word. You see, to come to Christ by faith, you have accepted that this is God's plan to give His creation, which is separated from Him because of their sin, a way to come back into a relationship with Him. This is God's ONLY plan!

That is why faith in Buddha will not save you. That is why faith in Muhammad will not save you. That is why faith in a golden statue will not save you. It is ONLY faith in Jesus Christ that saves you because it was Jesus Christ who God sent to die for your sins! He was God's perfect sacrifice to give fallen man a way back into everlasting fellowship with Him. So if you accept THAT, then you have to accept the ENTIRE BIBLE as God's inspired, inerrant Word. It can't be only partially right!!!

The reason is God cannot lie.

The Bible is an all or nothing proposition, it is either ALL true, or NONE of it is true. This is very serious, so please hear what I am saying to you today. You can't live your faith with one foot in the world, and one foot in the church. You either believe it all, or you don't really believe any of it. Either God is true, and we can count on EVERYTHING He says, or God is a liar, and we are the most foolish of all people.
My friend, there is NO MIDDLE GROUND!!!

This is where so many Christians break down in their life. They simply don't want to let go of the things of this world. The fact is, this life is only a brief journey anyway. When it is over, the things of this world will be gone, and the ONLY thing that you will be left with is the fact that you have Christ in your heart, or you have rejected His love for you. PERIOD.

I love you and care for you so much. I realize that this is difficult for so many of you to read. I already know that there will be thousands of very angry emails about how intolerant I am, how the Christian faith is horrible for excluding so many good people. The fact is, the only thing intolerant about the Christian faith is accepting sin in a person's life. Would a parent feed their child a plate of garbage to eat? Of course not. Why?

Because they love them and know that it would be very harmful to them. When God says don't sin, He is saying don't eat a plate of garbage because it is harmful to you.

As for the Christian faith being exclusionary. That is the FARTHEST thing from the truth. The Bibles says "whosoever believes in Him shall not perish." Whosoever is potentially EVERYONE. Everyone has the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ into their hearts and accept God's free gift of
everlasting life. I don't find that exclusionary, but IN-CLUSIONARY!

I will be praying for you today. Praying above all that you realize how serious it is to make a full and total commitment of your life to the Lord. The fact is, when we ask Him into our hearts, the Bible says that it is no longer our life, but that it belongs to Him. We surrender our life to Him. I realize as much as anyone how unpopular our faith can be to the world that we live in. The sad fact is, much of that world is lost, hurting, and living without ANY hope. They have chosen to reject God and live life the way they want to. That is fine. God has given everyone the free will to make that choice.

Sadly though, no matter how they may appear on the outside, inside they never experience the true joy, peace, and abundance that this life has to offer. As they get older, they start to realize that there has to be more to life, and in their search for God, get caught up in every kind of New Age, crazy philosophy that exists. What they are REALLY looking for is the peace that ONLY comes from a personal relationship with Christ.

As a Christian, you, me, each one of us, is called to be a light to this dark world that we live in. We can ONLY let our light shine bright when we are living fully, 100% for HIM. If you believe that God is real, THEN LIVE EACH DAY FOR HIM!!!

    In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,

    Bill Keller

  • RETURN TO SENDER..... -- Cheri, 07:01:55 06/08/04 Tue

THESE PRAYER REQUESTS HAVE NO POSTAGE ON THEM.

    RETURN TO SENDER!

In the Spirit, I saw many prayers ascending upward towards the throne. I sensed that many of these prayers were being prayed according to the Father's perfect will. Many were prayers for gifts, callings, and destinies to be manifested. A majority were bundles of prayers for the lost, especially for family members. Many of these prayer requests were made up of strong cries, day and night with fasting, that had become heavy burdens on hearts over the years.

As these prayers began to ascend, they seemed to go only so far and then drop back down to earth, as though they were bouncing off the ceiling from where they were being prayed. I saw, in heaven, like a huge "heavenly post office"; where prayer requests are received and where answers to prayers are sent out.

At the entrance of this "heavenly post office", on the front door, was written, in gigantic letters, the scripture Philippians 4:6 - "Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with 'thanksgiving' let your request be made known unto God!"

    The Prayers Weren't Making It.

    They Needed Thanksgiving!

As huge bundles of prayer requests came through the front door, on the way to the throne room, I was appalled by how many requests were being stopped and never made it to the throne room for answers. I heard a voice that shook me. An angelic postmaster general proclaimed, "These prayer requests have no 'postage' on them. Return to sender!"

In the Spirit, I saw these huge bundles of prayer requests like letters that had no postage stamps on them. These could go no farther!

The ones I did see going on into the throne room, to be answered, had a postage stamp of 'thanksgiving' on them. These ones became 'priority' mail, inside the throne room, and immediate confirmation of peace was sent to the sender with the following verse: "And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Phil 4-7).

Before the answer of these prayers were manifested on earth, the people that sent their requests with thanksgiving were receiving the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen because of the peace of God they were receiving through giving of thanks.

There Can't Be Thanksgiving Until There's Believing

Many prayers for lost loved ones never really reached their "heavenly" destination, not because people weren't praying, but they simply were not believing that they would receive what they were asking for. Therefore, to be thankful was very difficult for them.

The Lord seemed to say, "Tell my people that many have already prayed, and prayed, and filled heaven with their prayers for the lost and their loved ones. They actually need to stop praying and simply believe ME to save them. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved ... and thy house!

Many are carrying a false responsibility, feeling that they are responsible to get their family members saved.

May I remind you that you could not save your own self and, therefore, you cannot save anybody else. And since I saved you, I can save anybody!"

Many who were faithfully praying for family members, for many years, were actually praying themselves into a state of depression. I sense the Spirit saying, "This kind of praying is not scriptural! Begin to believe and start thanking Me that I am going to save them, now! Thank Me that I am going to bring in the lost. Just send up some stamps of 'thanksgiving' and I will stamp your prayer requests to forward them to the throne."

Start living as though your prayers
    are already answered!

I sensed the Father saying, "As you are thanking Me, go ahead and start treating the lost as though they were already saved. Start living as though your prayers are already answered! When you do, your life will become so full of thanksgiving, and praise, and worship that you will begin to see My heavenly 'UPS' and 'FED EX' arrive; bringing speedy delivery from heaven to impossible requests upon the earth! Praise and worship moves Me to do outrageous acts of blessings upon the earth!"

I remembered when Peter was put in prison and the church was praying for his deliverance. There was also a prayer meeting going on for Peter, in a woman's house. Her name was Mary. As the angel came and delivered Peter, he made a straight run to Mary's house. I believe he felt the power of their prayers.

    We Can Stop Praying Now!

As he knocked on the front door, a handmaiden, Rhoda, answered the door and got so excited she forgot to let Peter in. Rhoda ran inside that prayer meeting, shouting, "Peter is at the front door. We can stop praying, now!"

For some reason, they didn't seem to hear her. Perhaps someone was giving a strong prophetic utterance about Peter's soon release! Again, I can hear Rhoda shouting, "Our answered prayer is at the front door! We can stop praying!"

Finally, Rhoda gets the prayer group's attention and here is the spiritual temperature in that prayer room - here is what they say to Rhoda: "You must see his ghost!" In other words, "We don't believe it!"

You Will Never See It If You Don't Believe It

You can pray for a hundred years. But, unless you believe that you are going to receive what you are asking for, you will never see it! "Whatsoever things you ask in prayer, believe that you receive them and you shall have them."

I personally believe there are some prayer meetings that need to be broke up! Many churches have prayer meetings, but few have 'prayer-believing' meetings!

It was easier for Peter to get out of prison than it was for him to get inside that prayer meeting!

    Our Thanksgiving Proves Our Faith

Next time you pray, try putting a postage stamp of 'thanksgiving' on your request. I promise you, you will enjoy prayer time much more and you will probably live much longer!

Prayer, with thanksgiving, proves to God that we believe we are going to receive what we are asking for.

As a father, when my children thank me for something in advance, it's hard for me to get out of giving it to them!

  • The Joy Of The Lord.... -- Cheri, 06:45:48 05/09/04 Sun

The Joy Of The Lord Is Your Strength

    NEHEMIAH 8:10 NLT

10 ... Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!"

I do not claim it is the only meaning, but one thing the Lord showed me from this verse is that our level of joy is like a thermometer revealing our spiritual strength. If our joy is low -- our spiritual strength is low. That is because the Lord is our strength, and in His presence there is fullness of joy.

    PSALM 16:11 NKJ

11- You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

So, if our joy is low, it means we have not been spending time in God's presence, receiving His strength and help. It means we have got our focus off God and onto something else.

(Although God is always with us, as we worship Him and praise Him and thank Him, God manifests His presence.)
Being gloomy is not a sign of being spiritual. God did not intend for His people to be downcast. Let the world be sad, we have something to rejoice about! Jesus! Heaven!

If you look at your circumstances you may not feel like rejoicing. But if you look at Jesus as He truly is -- you will not be able to keep from rejoicing in Him. Jesus is wonderful!

    PHILIPPIANS 4:4 NLT

4- Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again--rejoice!

SAY THIS: I will rejoice in the Lord!

  • Putting God First..... -- Cheri, 20:54:10 04/19/04 Mon
    PUTTING GOD FIRST

    JEREMIAH 29.11

    "FOR I KNOW THE PLANS
    I HAVE FOR YOU, DECLARES
    THE LORD, PLANS TO PROSPER
YOU AND NOT TO HARM YOU,
PLANS TO GIVE YOU HOPE AND
    A FUTURE"

    Put God First
    Exodus 20:1-4

Herman was 93 years old but he insisted that he could drive a car just as well as he could at 39. As he was driving down Interstate 5 when his car phone rang. It was his wife urgently warning him, "Herman, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on Interstate 5." And Herman said, "Honey, it's not just one car. It's hundreds of them."

It is often very easy to get going in the wrong direction. One bad decision and we are headed the wrong way on the highway of life. Many of us probably wish we could learn how to better steer our lives. We need driving lessons for life. Well in Exodus chapter 20 God gives us some practical commands about how to get going in the right direction. Exodus chapter twenty contains a list of ten rules for living known as the Ten Commandments.   These commandments were given to Moses on Mount Sinai some 3,500 years ago. Even though they are centuries old we will find that they are just as pertinent and practical to our lives today in the 21st century.

This morning we want to look at the first two commandments which are found in Exodus 20:1-4. The first two commandments tell us that the first step to finding direction in life is to put God first in everything we do. Exodus 20:1-4 reads, "And God spoke these words: `I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord you God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."
God says here that nothing or no one is to come before Him. You are to have no other allegiance that gets in the way of you putting Him first. In Matthew 4:10 Jesus repeated this commandment, "Worship the Lord your God and serve him only."

Now why are we to worship God only? One reason we are to worship God only is because he commands it. He says, "You are to have no other gods before me." (v. 3) The Lord God is the only God that is worth our worship and our allegiance. And besides that as creator of this universe He determines the rules and he says, "no other gods." Plus no other man-made god is worth our worship it is a waste to worship them. Psalm 96:5 says, "All the gods of the nations are nothings."

Now we live in a society that insists that all gods of all religions are the same and that it doesn't matter which one you worship. The God of the Bible is the same as the god of the Muslims or the god of the New Agers or the god of the Hindus the world says. It doesn't matter what god you believe in, they say, as long as you are sincere in your beliefs. It doesn't matter if you believe in heaven or hell or reincarnation, you are free to choose your own beliefs. A man was reading a book about Hinduism and reincarnation and said to his wife, "If reincarnation was true, does that mean I could come back in the next life as a worm?" His wife said, "Oh, no I've read that you never be the same thing twice!" But other religions and their ideas about god and salvation are not all the same. There is only one true God, the God of the Bible, who revealed himself in Jesus Christ and you are commanded to worship Him and only Him.

Another reason we are to worship God only is because of who he is. If you sign up for a class in college, you want to know who the professor is because who the professor is, makes a big deal in how good the class will be.
And who God is determines a lot for us. We worship him because of who he is. And who he is, is a powerful God. He says here, "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery" (v. 2). This brings to mind God freeing the Israelites from bondage. The Egyptian Pharaoh would not let God's people go and so he sent ten plagues to Egypt to show his superiority. Each of those plagues, mocked one of the Egyptian gods. For instance, when God sent darkness to Egypt he was sending a message to the Pharaoh that he was more powerful than their made up sun god called Ra. And when Moses received these commandments, he understood exactly what God was saying. He was saying to Moses I am the God who sent those ten plagues to Egypt and parted the Red Sea. I am the most powerful God in the universe. I am the God of all.

God is not only powerful he is jealous. He says "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God am a jealous God." (v. 5) God is jealous when we place other things before him. It is like a wife who finds a picture of another woman in her husband's pocket. She asks him who it is.   And he says, "When you won't talk to me, I talk to her. When you don't listen she listens." And he says to her, "Your jealous." But she has a right to be jealous. He is not fully devoted to her. That's how God feels when we are fully devoted to him. He is jealous for our allegiance and worship.

God is also just. He says he punishes, "the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generations of those who hate him." (v. 5). Sin is no laughing matter to God and he will punish sin justly.
Many people view God as a doting grandfather who is incapable of punishing them. Heine the German poet once said, "God will forgive me, that's his job." God is forgiving yes, but he also is just and keeps us accountable for our actions. Deuteronomy 32:4 says, "God is the Rock, his works are perfect and all his ways are just. He is a faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he."

God is just but he is also loving. He says, I show "love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." (v. 6). Notice that God's justice extends to the third and fourth generations but his love extends to a thousand generations. God's love goes on and on. An atheist said to his Christian friend, "If there is a God, may he prove himself by striking me dead right now." Nothing happened and he said "You see, there is no God." And his friend replied, "You've proved nothing but that God is loving and gracious." God is not waiting to strike people dead. No, the kind of God revealed to us in the Bible is a God who is compassionate and deeply desires to love you. His love extends to a 1,000 generations!

Now Exodus 20:4 is the second commandment which warns against idolatry. "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." An idol is a graven image of god. This commandment, according to Dr. Jack Cottrell, forbids "making and worshipping images of other than God." Idolatry is fashioning a god in our own image. Whether that god is made of bronze or silver or granite or whether it is something we make up in our minds. This commandment forbidding idolatry is repeated in Deuteronomy 4:12. In Acts 17:29 the apostle Paul said, "We ought not to think that the Divine Nature of God is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art or thought of man."

The reason God forbids idolatry is because it confuses his nature with created things. God is uncreated and he does not like to be confused for something he created. He is not like a bird (in the heavens above) or like an animal (on the earth beneath) or like a fish (in the waters below) he is unique. In Psalm 4:2 the Lord asks, "How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?" Jack Cottrell says, "By forbidding attempts to make images of Him, God preserves His uniqueness as the only true God. Through this prohibition God helps us maintain a high concept of who he is."

Dr. Laura Schlesinger has a book on The Ten Commandments and she lists some modern day forms of idolatry. We may not cast gods out of gold or metal but we do forge some modern day gods in our minds.

One idol she mentions is superstitions. Some people observe superstitions from unconscious habit and others believe that they can protect them. Superstitions such as avoiding walking under a ladder or throwing spilt salt over a shoulder represent entertaining rituals that reflect a fear of the unknown. But such superstitions are a left handed acknowledge of "other gods" or spirits that have power over our lives.

Another form of idolatry is horoscopes and sorcery. Many people begin the day by looking at their newspaper horoscope. Will it be a day for love or staying away from difficult decisions? But relying on horoscopes or a psychic or the stars is idolatry because it says something else is guiding my life and not God. When you ask Miss Cleo for direction or John Edwards to connect you with the dead you commit idolatry. Only God knows the future, only God gives proper direction for life. No human being can predict the future or speak to the dead and if they can they are under the power of Satan.
The Bible makes this clear. In Isaiah 47 God says, "Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame." (Isaiah 47:13-14).

Another form of idolatry is nature. Many people today worship the trees, spotted owls and buffalo clover. Now nature is a gift from God and should be treasured, but nature and the animals are separate from God and not to be worshipped. We're going too far when we give praise to Mother Nature or worship the universe. That is idolatry. We must not confuse the creator with his creation. In Romans 1:22 the apostle Paul talked about people that "although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look created things."

Another form of idolatry is the worship of celebrities. We are so hungry for leadership that we go to extremes following Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera or everyone's favorite band N'SYNC. We dress like them, talk like them, spend hours watching them on TV. We put them on pedestals. When Beatle George Harrison died a couple months ago, they showed on the news people gathered at Central Park in New York, to sing his songs and meditate, since he was a Hindu and that's what George would of wanted. To me it looked like they were worshipping George Harrison. Idolatry.

Another form of idolatry is sports and recreation. As Talk Show host Bill Cunningham says, "Sports is the end all to end all things in America." And it is sad when on Sunday people fill a football stadium, but church's sit empty. And some of us are guilty of letting sports and recreation get in the way of God. We skip church for our games or leave worship early to get to the game on time. We check the sports page in the morning before we open our Bibles. Or we play golf three times a week when our sermon is not yet done. Sports and recreation can be idols.

One last form of idolatry is self. Yes, man has exalted himself as god. He has made an idol out of himself. A father asked his daughter if her fiancée believed in God. "He does," she replied, "in fact, he thinks he's god almighty." And man in his pride has exalted himself as god.

Well, what I think God is saying to us in these first two commandments is this, he's saying "I want to be number one in your life." I want you to have no other activity, person or thing to come before me. I want to be your number one priority. And if you put me first, he says, then I will make sure that all others things in your life fall into place. Remember Jesus' words, "Seek first the kingdom of God and all the things of this world will be given to you as well." (Matt. 6:33)
And if you want true fulfillment in life you need to seek after God with all your heart. Make Him your number one priority. Jesus also said, "No man can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and this world." (Matt. 6:23) And so would you evaluate your life and make sure that you have are not serving any other gods? And if you are, would you vow to set them aside and make God number one in your life?

Do you know why God gives this command to make him first? He gives it because he created you to have a relationship Him and when you replace your need for him with something else, it leaves you unfulfilled. You were made for God. And when God is not first, nothing will be right. Helen Keller was deaf and blind almost from infancy. Her tutor Annie Sullivan finally broke through and developed a means of communicating with her through touch. She discovered that Helen Keller was a brilliant, gifted young woman who was eager to learn. But Helen had never had anyone talk to her about God. No one had even discussed God with her. And so one day Annie Sullivan said, "Helen, I want to talk with you today about God, our Creator." And Helen responded "Good, I've been thinking about him for some time."
And you were created in your inmost being with a deep desire to know God. It is an innate instinct.

Ecclesiastes 3:10 says that "God has set eternity in the hearts of man." He made you to know him, and to put him above all else. You were designed to be close to Him. And nothing, no matter how important it may seem at the present, should be more important to you, than God. Haddon Robinson points out that one old recipe for making a delicious rabbit dish started out with this instruction: "First go catch the rabbit." And let me point out that most important step to a successful recipe for life, is to first catch God. Find him, seek him and then all other things will fall into place.

I have asked Irene Feldkamp to come share her testimony about how she was able to find God and how putting him first in her life has given her the fulfillment she was looking for. Welcome Irene. (Irene's testimony)

Have you put something before God? Are you headed in the wrong direction on the highway of life? Do you have an idol you need to destroy this morning? Pascal once said, "The last thing one knows is what to put first."

Do you know you need to put God first this morning? You can. God is just waiting for you to come to Him. Would you make a decision to put him first in your life! You can do so by taking the first step, by accepting Jesus Christ into your life, being baptized into him, having your sins forgiven. Come to forward as we sing this song of invitation.

  • Happy Easter.... -- Cheri, 05:04:03 04/12/04 Mon

    VERSE:

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

    THOUGHT:

Love is demonstrated, not just said. Love goes ahead sharing itself instead of waiting until things are easy or safe. Love redeems when all hope seems lost. Love is not only what God is, but it is also what he does and what he gives.

    PRAYER:

Thank you, dear Heavenly Father, for loving me so extravagantly. Please help me to see the opportunities to love others whom you place in my path everyday. Use me to demonstrate your love to someone today and each day that follows. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

  • Five ways..... -- Cheri, 15:03:51 03/21/04 Sun

    Five ways God uses Problems.....

The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you - depending on how you respond to them. Unfortunately, most people fail to see how God wants to use problems for good in their lives. They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring. Here are five ways God wants to use the problems in your life:

    -------------------------------------

1.God uses problems to DIRECT you.

Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is God trying to get your attention? "Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways." Proverbs 20:30

2.God uses problems to INSPECT you.

People are like tea bags...if you want to know what's inside them, just drop them into hot water! Has God tested your faith with a problem? What do problems reveal about you? "When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience." James 1:2-3

3.God uses problems to CORRECT you.

Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It's likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a hot stove. But you probably     learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something... health, money, a relationship... by losing it. "It was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws." Psalm 119:71-72

4.God uses problems to PROTECT you.

A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents you from being harmed by something more serious. Last year a friend was fired for refusing to do something unethical that his boss had asked him to do. His unemployment was a problem - but it saved him from being convicted and sent to prison a year later when management's actions were eventually discovered. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good"... Genesis 50:20

5.God uses problems to PERFECT you.

Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders. God is far more interested in your character than your comfort. Your relationship to God and your character are the only two things you're going to take with you into eternity. "We can rejoice when we run into problems... they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady." Romans 5:3-4

**Here's the point: God is at work in your life - even when you do not recognize it or understand it. But it's much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him.

"Success can be measured not only in achievements, but in lessons learned, lives touched and moments shared along the way."

  • God's Moral Authority....Canine Parables -- Cheri, 22:47:59 02/18/04 Wed

    God's Moral Authority

One Summer Velvet dug up something that smelled like moldy newspaper. I had no idea what it was, but Velvet seemed proud of her find. She shook it and tossed it around the yard until it dangled from her mouth in ragged chunks. Of course, I took it from her. If she swallowed some, it would no doubt end up a dark stain on my beige carpet.

A few days later, she dug up something quite different - about a half dozen oyster shells that looked like small, pearl fans. I took those from her too but I cleaned them up and put them out for display on a shelf in the bathroom.

Velvet also collects ordinary objects - like sticks. I let her keep those because they're inoffensive and harmless, and not pretty enough to display on a bric-a-brac shelf. Basically, then, I make her give up the nice stuff or the nasty stuff and let her keep everything else.

My criteria for taking and leaving reminds me of the way some people look at morals. Some people reject the notion that there's any ultimate authority for judging what's nice or nasty behavior. So what one person considers evil behavior might be seen as acceptable to someone else, depending on the situation.

To those of us who say God sets the standards for niceness, the anything-goes culture says, "That's fine for you, but not everyone believes in God. So let's take God out of the morality question." That, of course, takes away the quaint notion of sin. Sin, after all, has the nasty quality

    - like a dark stain on a beige carpet - of spoiling our view of ourselves and of the world we live in.
Moral tolerance, then, takes away both the spiritually nice and the spiritually nasty, and leaves nothing of value - no recognizable standard for niceness or nastiness.

Behaving without standards of right and wrong seems appealing - at first. But doing so would eventually erode the capacity for discernment. For instance, I felt pretty self-righteous when I turned in a wallet I found at Food-O-Rama.....until I read about the little boy who returned $10,000 that had fallen from a Brinks truck.

On the other end of the scale, if I don't feel bad about not paying back that dollar I borrowed, then why not neglect to report some income to the IRS.

Living as if there were no standard of moral niceness toward which to strive prevents me from developing moral character - the ability to recognize the right thing and then do it even when no one is looking. And worse, with no definite limits on nastiness, how will I learn to recognize evil? Do-as-you-please morality blurs the line between good and evil; it eliminates both God and the devil.

Velvet is unable to recognize the harm in consuming nasty garbage. Nor is she able to discern the niceness of an oyster shell. Following a code of moral tolerance will eventually lead to the inability to recognize neither nastiness nor niceness.

And just as Velvet is quite content to play with ordinary stick, those who follow the do-as-you-please culture content themselves with moral standards of no enduring value and are left holding nothing of significance.

In those days.....every man did that which was right in his own eyes. ~Judges 17:6 (KJV)

  • What prayer can do..... -- Cheri, 15:41:16 01/29/04 Thu

    WHAT PRAYER CAN DO

    Power in our day-to-day lives

    Baled Out

The summer of 1993, rain deluged the Mid-west. Here in Jackson County, Iowa farms were flooded, the hay crop ruined. There was enough feed to last
through autumn, but how would we probide for our livestock come winter?

Cold weather set in, and hay mangers remained bare. Cattle died. Our neighbors went bankrupt. Families suffered.

Then farmers in Pennsylvania heard about our plight and donated hay. One thousand four hundred forty bales were on the way by rail, each one an answer to prayer. I joined the committee that handled people's applications for free hay. I knew everyone of the 18 farmers who signed up.

The day the bales came, everyone pulled up their hay wagons to the rail yard Men climed inoto the boxcars and tossed fresh hay down to their neighbors.

I carefully counted bales---1,440 bales, 18 farmers, 80 bales each.

A little old pickup drove up. An elderly man I didn't recognize got out. This is where we get the free hay?" he asked. "I'm going to have to sell my horses if I don't find some."

I can't ask the others to give up some of thier hay. Eighty bales will barely get them through the week.
It nearly broke my heart to tell the elderly farmer all the hay was spoken for.

"I might as well stick around and lend a hand," he said, and jumped into a boxcar. Lord can't you do something for this man? I asked.
Finally all the wagons were filled. "There's some hay left!" someone
yelled from one of the boxcars.

The old farmer's eyes lit up. We piled the extra hay into the bed of his pickup. There was room for 14 bales --- the exact amount that was left over.
Just goes to show that no matter how great the number, no matter how great the need, the Lord always provides.

  • God Loves Sinners.. -- Cheri, 17:03:41 01/28/04 Wed

    God Loves Sinners

    JOHN 3:16 KJV

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life.

Many people quote John 3:16 -- but how many believe it?

God never changes. If He loved the people of the world in the past -- He still loves them today. Yet many people think God is mad at sinners -- and hates them.

    ROMANS 5:8 NIV

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God is NOT mad at sinners. He loves them enough to die for them -- even today! We should not be mad at sinners either. They are deceived and enslaved by sin. They need delivered, and no one can do it except Jesus.
Of course, God doesn't want people to remain sinners. He loves them too much for that. Sin destroys. It brings death. But the gift of God is life -- and that gift is found in a Person: the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the best friend a sinner will ever have. They need to know that. Someone has to tell them the truth. They think Jesus hates them because they're a sinner and not perfect. (The devil already fed them that lie.)

    Let's tell them the truth!

    2 CORINTHIANS 5:19 NIV

19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
God is not holding people's sins against them. People need to know that. When they do -- they will love Jesus.

SAY THIS: Jesus loves sinners -- so I love them, too. I love them enough to tell them Jesus will help them.

  • The most important question.... -- Cheri, 18:43:09 11/19/03 Wed
Do you know for sure that you are saved?

    The most important
    question of your life.

    Have you asked
    Jesus Christ into your heart?

Did you know that your answer to this
question will determine where you will spend eternity?

If you have any doubt whatsoever, please don't stop reading.

    St John 3:16 says ,
For God so loves the world,
that He gave, His only begotten Son.
that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

What this means is, that if you ask
Jesus Christ to come into your heart,
and if you believe He died on the Cross for your sins, and that after three days
    He rose from the grave,
God will save you, and you will live
    in Heaven forever.

    There is no other way!!!

    Jesus Christ is the way.
You cannot go to Heaven by being Good,
because the Bible says that all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. He also said that there is not one person that is righteous. The only way that we become right in the sight of God is by asking
Jesus to come into your heart.

He wants us to come just as we are.
You don't need to try to clean yourself
up before you give your life to Jesus,
Because we can't do it by ourselves.
    We need the Lord's help.

Don't let the devil trick you into thinking that you,
can go to Heaven because you are a good person.
That is the biggest lie the devil has ever told. We are made holy only because of the
    shed BLOOD of Jesus Christ.

So you see God has make the way so easy.
If you are a drug addict, a Homosexual,
an adulterer, liar, a Gossiper, or whatever sin you may be into.

Jesus welcomes you to come, just as you are. The Bible also says that once we ask
Jesus into our hearts we must tell someone.

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE DEVIL TRICK YOU INTO GOING TO HELL, ESPECIALLY WHEN GOD HAS MADE THE WAY SO EASY.
JESUS DID ALL THE WORK FOR US, WHEN HE DIED ON THE CROSS.
    PLEASE GIVE YOUR LIFE TO
HIM BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
    JESUS IS COMING SOON!
    WILL YOU BE READY?

Please pray this prayer with us.

    Dear Jesus,
I ask you to please come into my heart.
    I admit that I am a sinner.
I know that I cannot be saved by being good.
I believe that you died on the Cross for all of my sins,
and hon the 3rd day (Easter Sunday morning)
    you rose from the grave.
I now know that you love me, just as I am,
and that it is only through the blood that you shed on Calvary,
that I can go to Heaven.
I thank you Lord Jesus that your Word is true.
Lord help me to live my life,
so that others may see you through me.
Please teach me through The Holy Spirit how to live
    according to the Bible.
Lord please teach me to be like you.
I love you and I thank you Jesus.
    In Jesus Name Amen.

Now the Bible says that you must tell someone,
that you have asked Jesus into your heart.
If you want to tell someone
    Email us below.

We are Rev. Bradley & Karen Showell

    K.showell@ukonline.co.uk

We would love to hear from you
If you have Just asked Jesus Christ into your heart, you have made the greatest decision of you life.
Please sign our Lamb's (Jesus) guestbook of life.

Please click on the link below.
    HERE

By doing this you are making a public confession
that you have asked Jesus into your heart,
and on judgement day, when we all stand before
God to give an account of our sins,
Jesus will act as your lawyer,
and He will declare you 'NOT GUILTY".

  • The Christmas Gift.... -- Cheri, 06:43:30 12/05/03 Fri
    The Christmas Gift

2 Corinthians 9:15 - Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (NIV)

"I can't wait until you see Melody [not her real name] open the present I bought her for Christmas," our friend said. Melody was an only child, and planning for Christmas was an exciting event in my friend's home. On Christmas Eve, several people from our neighbourhood, who couldn't make it home to see their own families, gathered around our Christmas tree to celebrate together. After telling the story of the first Christmas, and singing a number of carols, each child was allowed to open the gift their parents had placed under the tree earlier in the day.

Melody's parents put a brightly wrapped parcel in her lap, and waited anxiously for the toddler to open their carefully chosen gift. "Open it, Melody," her father urged, as he helped her pull the tape off the wrapping paper. Melody turned the package over slowly, and picked at the paper. "Hurry," her father urged again and again. She hugged the parcel close to her body but made no further attempt to unwrap it. The father couldn't contain his excitement any longer, so he pulled the colourful clown out of its box, and handed it to his daughter. Melody, ignoring the gift, turned to pick up the scraps of coloured paper and the empty box. A look of disappointment crossed her father's face. The gift so lovingly given had been rejected.

I wonder how God feels when we, like Melody, reject His priceless gift. Sadly, many of us are more content to play with the packaging of the season than to accept the gift of salvation made possible through God's one and only son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Dear God, remind us that the brightly coloured packaging that the world has wrapped around this holy season is empty and without meaning. Help us to accept your gift, Jesus Christ, with grateful hearts. Amen.

  • It's your choice.... -- Cheri, 20:36:47 12/19/03 Fri

    It's Your Choice

    Read: Joshua 24:1-15

Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.

    --Joshua 24:15

    ----------------------------------------------

As Joshua was nearing the end of his life, he gathered the children of Israel together at Shechem. And there, from the lips of a man who was close to death, came an appeal that throughout the centuries has moved the hearts of many.

Joshua said, "Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve" (Josh. 24:15).

This challenge, viewed in the light of the New Testament, suggests three outstanding lessons in regard to our salvation.

First, we must make a choice between God and the devil.
To refuse Christ leaves us automatically on the devil's side. Jesus said, "He who is not with Me is against Me" (Matt. 12:30).

Second, this choice is a personal matter. Joshua said, "Choose for yourselves . . . whom you will serve."

Through faith in Jesus Christ, we can be born again and made a child of God. But we must do the believing for ourselves.

Third, there is an urgency in this charge. "Choose for yourselves this day," not next month, not a week from today, not tomorrow, but this day.

Have you made that all-important choice? Have you trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? If not, do so right now! Remember, the choice is yours. --RWD

    Salvation is available
    For everyone to choose;
But if we do not take it now,
That choice we just might lose. --Sper

  • A Dash of Spice..... -- Cheri, 02:37:41 08/12/03 Tue

A Dash of Spice, by Phil Ware

It was a hot day and we had chosen the mall for a cool place to kill time with some friends. Our vacation had been fun and relaxing. We were going to catch a few bargains and grab an early supper before heading back out into the countryside where we were staying. We bumped into Ginger almost by accident. She was helping our wives look at a special on cookware. While we didn't purchase anything from her, the few moments we spent listening to her deep Arkansas drawl was delightful.

Her smile was contagious, but what first caught my attention was her burnt orange hair. For a couple of Texas Longhorns in Razorback country, it was a welcome sight. Ginger was engaging, funny, encouraging, and personable. She wore a purple jacket, a multicolor blouse, and big earrings that matched her blouse. She was indeed colorful, but not ostentatious. Our conversation with her was a blast.

We made small talk about the weather (Hot!), where we were from (Texas, where she had been born.) and then we wandered into more personal details. Ginger was well past the age of retirement and she joked about it -- "I was born well before anybody had a TV and before most folks had radio!" she joked.

So I asked, "Isn't it hard being on your feet all day?"

"No hun, I thrive on hard work. I still do my yard work and tend to my garden. I just love it!" she answered.

I'm pretty sure I won't bump into Ginger again on this side of eternity. On a hot day while on vacation, however, she was a refreshing gift that brought a laugh and a few moments of genuine joy in a place I least expected it -- the mall.

In our busy lives, we often forget the incredible value of a single person to God. They become part of the traffic in our way, a tool to accomplishing our newest task, or simply go unnoticed as we scurry on to our next destination. However, if we are willing to pause, to value, and to listen, God will bless us with a dash of spice and a touch of refreshment with one of his precious creations. Let's never forget that people, not accomplishments, are our real treasures in life. Let's learn to take refreshment in those special heavenly messengers, those human angels that God uses to brighten our paths.

The generous prosper and are satisfied; those who refresh others   will themselves be refreshed. (Proverbs 11:25)

May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because   he often refreshed. (2 Timothy 1:16)

    ACCEPTED!

    John 15:1-11 (NRSV)

[Jesus said,] "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete."

Jesus said, "As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you."

    - John 15:9 (NRSV)

    _________________________

LIKE most people at one time or another, I have struggled to feel accepted. Because I was the only stepchild in my family, I never felt like a real member. School was another area of struggle where I often faced rejection. But late in my high school years I found a form of acceptance: I fell in with the "party" crowd.

Unfortunately, many people still seek that false kind of acceptance, whether it comes from smoking marijuana or from drinking excessively with others in a crowded bar. They find no real acceptance but merely intoxication to deaden the pain of rejection.

Hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ brought me my first glimpse of real acceptance. Christ loved me enough to pay the penalty for my sin. I realized that Christ loved me as I was and that there were no conditions on his love. Furthermore, my past years of feeling rejected in no way hindered the fact that Christ accepted me -- and still does.

Many times the rejection we face has nothing to do with what we have done. In the same way, our acceptance in Christ is not based on our actions. It is based on his love alone -- we cannot earn it. Realizing we are loved by Christ, we are free to love and accept others in his name.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your grace and for the true acceptance
    we have through you. Amen.

    Jeremiah 18:1-6 (NRSV)

The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: "Come, go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear my words." So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him.

Then the word of the LORD came to me: Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done? says the LORD. Just like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

    _________________________

O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

    - Isaiah 64:8 (NRSV)

    _________________________

I recently took a class in making clay pottery. It was an enjoyable class, but I can be a slow learner. One lesson I learned the first day -- and relearned nearly every day after that -- was that no project would be successful unless the clay was precisely centered on the spinning wheel before I began working with it. Cups and bowls that looked promising soon collapsed if the ball of clay I started with was off-center. I found that it took all the concentration and strength I had to hold the clay firmly in my hands when the wheel began spinning and I tried to "feel" the center of the wheel. I usually closed my eyes because what looked like the center could be deceiving. Once I found the center, I could mold the clay into useful and sometimes beautiful things.

It was not hard to find a parallel between this lesson and my relationship with God. If I make a deliberate effort every day to make God the center of my life, my life can be useful and reflect the beauty of God's love.

Prayer: Lord, help us to stay centered upon you, today and always.
Mold us for your service and allow us to be vessels for your Spirit. Amen.

  • God Is Fantastic.... -- Cheri, 18:35:33 07/13/03 Sun
    GOD IS FANTASTIC

He is the First and Last, The Beginning and the End! He is the keeper of Creation and the Creator of all! He is the Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times. He always was, He always is, and He always will be . . . unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone!

He was bruised and brought healing! He was pierced and eased pain! He was persecuted and brought freedom! He was dead and brought life! He is risen and brings power! He reigns and brings Peace!

The world can't understand him, The armies can't defeat Him, The schools can't explain Him, and The leaders can't ignore Him.

Herod couldn't kill Him, The Pharisees couldn't confuse Him, and The people couldn't hold Him!

Nero couldn't crush Him, Hitler couldn't silence Him, The New Age can't replace Him, and "NO ONE" can explain Him away!

He is light, love, longevity, and Lord. He is goodness, Kindness, Gentleness, and God. He is Holy, Righteous, mighty, powerful, and pure.

His ways are right, His word is eternal, His will is unchanging, and His mind is on me.

He is my Savior, He is my guide, and He is my peace! He is my Joy, He is my comfort, He is my Lord, and He rules my life!

I serve Him because His bond is love, His burden is light, and His goal for me is abundant life.

I follow Him because He is the wisdom of the wise, the power of the powerful, the ancient of days, the ruler of rulers, the leader of leaders, the overseer of the overcomers, and is to come. And if that seems impressive to you, try this for size.

His goal is a relationship with ME! He will never leave me, never forsake me, never mislead me, never forget me, never overlook me, and never cancel my appointment in His appointment book!

When I fall, He lifts me up! When I fail, He forgives!

When I am weak, He is strong! When I am lost, He is the way!

When I am afraid, He is my courage! When I stumble, He steadies me! When I am hurt, He heals me! When I am broken, He mends me! When I am blind, He leads me! When I am hungry, He feeds me!

When I face trials, He is with me! When I face persecution, He shields me! When I face problems, He comforts me! When I face loss, He provides for me! When I face Death, He carries me Home!

He is everything for everybody everywhere, every time, and every way. He is God, He is faithful. I am His, and He is mine! My Father in heaven can whip the father of this world. So, if you're wondering why I feel so secure, understand this. . .

He said it and that settles it. God is in control, I am on His side, and that means all is well with my soul. Everyday is a blessing for GOD Is!

  • A new week. Daily Scriptures- -- Cheri, 02:01:25 07/08/03 Tue

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

    Ephesians 2:8-9

We are daily faced with choices, and the grace of God is available, and will enable us to make choices that please Him. Our capacity to love and live our lives according to His principles and word, are dependent upon the enabling grace we receive from Him. It is His grace, which fills and keeps the river of perfect love flowing through our lives. We don't have the capacity to love and to serve without it. Our choices are made in response to His love. Choosing to follow and serve Him, choosing to not only forgive our enemies, but to embrace them, choosing to help others without the prospect of personal gratification or gain. He clothes us with humility, gentleness, compassion and kindness. Even our best intentions fall short in comparison.

    Prayer

We humbly come before you today Lord, aware of our inability to serve You. Our best intentions most certainly fall short of your perfect love. Create us to be vessels of Your love, let it flood through every area of our lives, that are choices will be made with kindness, compassion and love. We thank you for your grace that enables us to do all things through Christ, who gives us the strength. Amen.

  • A New Week. Daily Scripture's... -- Cheri, 07:33:42 06/17/03 Tue

The Lord will command His loving-kindness
in the daytime, And in the night His song
shall be with me-- A prayer to the God of
    my life. Psalm 42:8

The day to day events of our lives are changed through prayer. There is not a single issue concerning our lives, that God is not interested in. He comes to us right where we are, and desires for us to love and fellowship with Him. He is available to us always. Our human thinking, may doubt that the God that created all that is, has the desire, or even the time to be concerned with us personally. With all the conflict in the world, and the amount of problems, surely God has more important issues to deal with. Nothing could be further from the truth. His love for us is never ending, and time which He created, is on His side.

Prayer is a choice we make, to include and seek His guidance concerning the issues of life. Choosing to return the love we have received from our creator, and choosing to trust as we follow His lead. Prayer changes us, which changes our day.

    Prayer

We thank You Lord for your steadfast,
never ending love. You have made Your-
self available to us always. We come
to You concerning every decision and
problem we face, knowing that You will
change our hearts, and our thinking,
giving us wisdom, courage, and the
strength to face each new day. We come
eager to fellowship with You our creator.
Thank you for the privilege of knowing You.
    Amen.

    LETTING GO

    _________________________

    Psalm 18:31-36 (NRSV)

For who is God except the LORD?
And who is a rock besides our God?--
the God who girded me with strength,
    and made my way safe.
He made my feet like the feet of a deer,
and set me secure on the heights.
He trains my hands for war,
so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You have given me the shield of your salvation,
    and your right hand has supported me;
your help has made me great.
You gave me a wide place for my steps under me,
and my feet did not slip.

Jesus said to his disciples, "Why are you afraid, you of little faith?"

    -- Matthew 8:26 (NRSV)

    _________________________

RECENTLY I saw a trapeze artist perform. I marveled at the person's talent. In every trapeze act there is a point when the artist must let go of one bar and reach for another. For that split second the performer is not holding on to anything. While trapeze artists' timing must be perfect, the act won't succeed unless they have the faith to let go of that first bar.

I notice in my life that I frequently have difficulty in letting go. Mostly, I am afraid to give up something comfortable for the unknown. I have to explore the new course of action very carefully before parting with the old. Sometimes the direction seems right, but I usually hesitate to depart from the well-known.

Trapeze artists know from practice and experience that the new bar will be there when they are ready. They have to have faith that their equipment and their fellow performers will not let them down; they are certain about their support.

In comparison, I am squeamish about letting go. I have made my life into a cozy cocoon, one from which I am hesitant to move. Yet Christ continually calls us from our comfort to step out in faith. Are we willing to reach out, to cast off our fear and grab on to what God offers? Are we willing to soar?

Prayer: Lord, help us reach out in faith to take hold of the wondrous
life you offer. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Don't be afraid to let go; God is waiting.

    HIDDEN ENEMIES
    _________________________

    Ephesians 6:10-13 (NRSV)

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against . . . the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil.

    - Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

    _________________________

MY enemies speak against me" (Psalm 71:10). "Deliver me from my enemies" (Psalm 59:1). "O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me!" (Psalm 9:13).

Many psalms mention the writer's adversaries, be they individuals or nations. And it would be easy to consider those words to be less than valid for our lives today. Our response might be, "Well, I'm glad I don't have to live like that - always on the lookout for danger and enemies!"

But haven't we experienced unsettling doubt? Haven't we been led astray, influenced by some power or pride that misdirected our judgment? Haven't we been tempted to choose our will over God's will?

We do have enemies -- lots of them. They take the form of ungodly notions (greed, revenge, lust, jealousy).

Once we are able to unmask these enemies, we can bring them to God, who is stronger than all of them. As the psalm tells us, "The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies" (Psalm 118:7).

Prayer: Dear God, help us to identify our hidden enemies and to
    triumph over them. Amen.

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Naming our enemies can help us to overcome them.

  • Rejoicing... -- Cheri, 15:11:16 05/31/03 Sat

Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?

And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.'

In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

I have learned that my physical well-being is much improved by taking my doctor's recommendation and faithfully doing exercises to strengthen my back for 15 minutes each day. Devoting a small portion of each day to this routine has made a major difference in my quality of life.

This small discipline has also made me more aware of the value of Christian disciplines. I realize anew the importance of spending time each day in Bible reading and prayer. I am able to think deeply about the people on my prayer list, and I try to keep in touch with them regularly. Sometimes a word of encouragement can show someone that we care and may be what that person needs to hear right at that moment.

Another discipline of the Christian life is knowing that I need to seek help and advice when problems arise. This discipline holds true in my spiritual journey; talking with a friend and sharing problems and joys makes both of us grow spiritually. Just as beginning my day with my back exercises has improved my life physically, so the time I spend devotionally has strengthened me spiritually.

    Prayer:
We give you thanks, dear heavenly
Father, for each day of our lives
and the opportunities and joys each
day brings for doing your will. Amen.

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

Taking time for God each day
    brings strength for living.

    BEGINNING WITH GOD

    Isaiah 26:3-9

Those of steadfast mind you keep in peace--
in peace because they trust in you.
    Trust in the LORD forever,
         for in the LORD GOD
         you have an everlasting rock.
    For he has brought low
         the inhabitants of the height;
the lofty city he lays low.
He lays it low to the ground,
         casts it to the dust.
    The foot tramples it,
         the feet of the poor,
         the steps of the needy.
    The way of the righteous is level;
O Just One, you make smooth the path of the righteous. In the path of your judgments,
              O LORD, we wait for you;
    your name and your renown
              are the soul's desire.
My soul yearns for you in the night,
my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

Set your mind on things that are above,
not on things that are on earth.

  • God made homosexualists out of atheists -- Vera Carp, 02:16:21 04/04/03 Fri
    Romans 1:22-24

    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They Sinned, and as a result God made them Homosexualists, and then condemned them to Eternal Hell. Is that the action of a God who Loves them, or loves the Sinner? He wanted them to Burn!

    Quote:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Romans 1:24-32 :
"24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
    27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, @#%$, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nore verse 28: GOD gave them over to a reprobate mind, God filled their minds with the attributes which I have outlined in bold, as a direct response to their Sin of homosexualism! That is NOT the action of a Loving God, that is the action of a God who is ANGRY and UNMERCIFUL! Because of their transgressions, He has deliberately made it IMPOSSIBLE for them to attain Salvation, thus condemning them to Hell and eternal agony!

Thank you Lord for giving us Godly legislators who understand that and will protect us from such evil!

GOD'S LAW IS CLEAR --- THE PENALTY SEVERE!
