] Date Posted: 00:52:57 03/08/03 Sat Author Host/IP: 202.78.97.16 to whom this may concern. for almost 6 years, we have been trying to rebel against the channel we used to loved. all those years we felt cheated by the one man we used to trust, lead us to nowhere. i used to wonder, what would the channel look like today if all those things happened on the past didnt occur. and, till now i cant imagine what. maybe its between chaos or more fun. or both. or what they are trying to create, the nirvana or utopia of all iRC channels, where peace and order reigns. if i have to choose between these, id choose chaos with more fun. than trying to implement "so" strict rules that you didnt know you've hurt someone already. for i still belive that in order to eleminate chaos and disorder, one must educate his fellow. not by slamming into his face that "hey you dont know how to use this shit, get out we dont need you." thats why we dont get united becoz we like the feeling of authority within us. my point here is why not educate our fellow than putting robots on the channel who are mainly configuration is for filtering the channel with all those guidelines. or better yet putting operators whos job is like a predator who stalks on his prey. where are the robots that will explain ur guidelines? where are the good'ol'operators where u can talk and explain and like a customer service guy will help you in everything u need. where the operators? or better yet... how many channel operators and helpers are there in #bohol? i can see only 1, 2, human operators, and a channel bot operator. and most of the time the channel are left on the hands of the robot. would this robot talk and explain things to you? whats happening now is, your making a shortcut of things to be done. The most famous line is " IRC is not right its a priveledge" i can see no priveledge here for newbies who are just starting to used this wonderful thing. you said this is to be done to get rid of troublemakers, but u didnt realize who created those troublemakers in the first place. please realize that this channel #bohol is the center channel of bohol. you dont need to advertise this channel to be known, it is the one thing that will come to mind if your looking for a place in irc for bohol. and please come to realize that we need to get and accomodate all the boholanoes everywhere. troublemaker or not they still have the "right" to be included in this channel. afterall we are all boholanoes trying to stay on our homeland. TIGUM BOHOL SA TIBUUK KALIBUTAN is what our government is doing, why not include this on ur agenda. not TIGUM BOHOL (ngano kamao mo tuman namo) SA TIBUUK KALIBUTAN. so my proposal is this, 1. get as many educated OPs to watch the channel. they must be given a strict guideline. but be sure that they they wont be strict to the channel users. but instead be flexible to the users needs. 2. get rid of the PERMANENT BAN rule. there shud be no such things as a permanent ban. u never know, one has already changed his attitude towards the channel. instead, intruct the OPerators to watch out for those troublemakers and kick ban them only when they commit a violation only. bans must be not more than 24hrs. let your OPERATORS work. not just sitting pretty and letting thier scripts do the job for them. 3. psybnc/proxy ips.. why discourage this kind of things? reason source of abuse, lets face it they would not have this things if they dont know how to get it. GIVE THEM THE CREDIT for accomplishing this things by letting them use it. if they voilate a rule, then OPS go kick and ban them. Not putting it on a perm ban. i know you wont agree on this but dont be onesided about using psybncs/proxys. but this one: MASK UNDERNET ips/hostname, why is this being discourage also? reason: source of abuse. myy goddd. This is the first time i heard this is discourage when infact UNDERNET is incouraging the users to register. This thing is given by the undernet itself for us to use this feature. This thing is here for a reason. This thing help us secure ourselves from ppl who have no other things to do but to bug other ppl. why let the majority suffer for a few ppls mistake? if this is discourage, why are the mighty OPERATORS using UNDERNET's Mask ips/hostname? there are so many things to discuss. so little time to do it. I love bohol. im a boholano. if u call me racist for being so proud about being a boholano then so be it. My no. 1 point here is Give the people of bohol the best irc environment as possible. like the channel manager said," no one owns a channel in undernet but they are manage by ppl." so manage it well. i have a feeling this message will be ignored. or yet be deleted. i just hope we navaho will have some piece of his busy time to answer this one and hope we can have a discussion. Yah..everything u've said is right. better give all d chatters d chance of getting in BOHOL...y banned them for more than 24 hrs??? dey pay for the internet use..dey don't pay in getting into the channel...if no one will use the internet..den walay tawo sa channel!!!!! By kicking or banning a user in the channel, it is also another way of telling them that they have done something wrong and that they would pay for it dearly. They are ofcourse given another chance and like YOU! you have been given so many chances Poppy! and you still give away your chances...you still rebel...why don't you just swallow what happened so long ago and live with it! And one more thing! Your topic is quite right...If you, chatters, unable to follow channel rules...why not change your attitude towards it and join the more better chatters who live a happy chatting life in IRC by following channel rules.
