Author: Mele and Maeko
Subject: A pair of twins...

A girl of around eighteen quietly makes her way across the threshold of the Den, absorbed in the sight of the chirrs making their way in the world, her eyes resting on each of the seven in turn. She watched as the youngsters followed the toys with their eyes, uncertain about joining in the games, and yet obviously wanting to. With her mind she silently urged them to, so they might find out if they did indeed enjoy it. One of her ebony ears flicker as she hears a rumble of laughter from deep inside the den, and her sea-green eyes widen in surprise as she realized it was the Mother, Redevance. After a moment of surprise, Mele gently chided herself, for after all, Mothers were Niyias, and Niyias had emotions, and therefore of course they would laugh! Now laughing at herself, she strode forward and entered the den proper. Taking the initiative, she curtsied to the Mother and her Bonded, and then Soliel and his Qyne partner, spreading her emerald cloak in place of a skirt. "I would be honored to be allowed to try and Bond with one of the wonderful chirrs here." She pauses, glancing upwards, the beginnings of an almost shy smile on her lips, "It's a wonderful litter and it has wonderful parents." With that she retreated to some feet away, heart thudding as she thought of what might be obtained in the dim light of the Tan Den, namely; a friend who would share their mind and soul with her, and the prospect excited her beyond words. Her eyes flicker over them, watching, wondering which one, if any, were meant for her. The golden-red chirr attracts her attention first, and she observes with quiet amusement the little shows of bravery the chirr was exhibiting in playing with her mother's muzzle. "Good for you, little one," She murmurs, a smile lighting her tanned face. Next her wandering gaze rests on the tricolor male, and first her eyes widen, then blink with disbelief. Tricolors were rare, to say the least, and the only one she had ever hear of before was Bienveillance, and she squints in the poor light to make him out better. He was a beautiful one, makes no doubt, she mused, but she didn't really feel...well, drawn to him. When her gaze finally shifted from the tricolor male, it halted its progress when it came to rest on the first born female. To Mele, she was perfection in itself, and the Qyne maiden could not bear to tear her eyes away. Her shadowy fur looked thick and silky, and Mele's slender fingers suddenly longed to bury themselves in it. In contrast, the bright golden amber of her mane seemed almost to glow in the darkness, and even in her slumber the chirr seemed almost regal, like her majestic Mother. Mele slid into a sitting position, back against one wall of the Den. Arranging her cloak beneath her, the girl slips a packet of choice meat strips from a concealed pocket, and selects one, and gives herself up to waiting for the chirr to awaken.

Maeko enters the Tan Den a heartbeat behind her twin, but hesitates at the mouth of the Den, almost too shy to continue in, but utterly incapable of leaving, even if she had wished to. Gathering her courage around her like a second cloak, she forces her feet forward. Her determination falters for a moment as she sweeps her gaze upward towards the giant Niyias, the Mother and her mate, but she hurriedly gets it in check before her elusive courage could flee her totally. Stepping boldly forth, and hoping she didn't appear quite as frightened as she felt, she curtsied deeply. She could feel the palms of her hands moistening, fought the instinct to slick her ears backwards against her coal-black hair, and she was sure if she had a tail it would be quivering between her legs by now. She wished, not for the first, and certainly not for the last time, that she had half the nerve of her twin sister, Mele. Turning frightened rabbit-eyes towards the adult Niyias, she spoke, voice soft, "I'm Maeko, and I've always dreamt of having a chance to Bond with a Niyia, and I'm glad I can try with your absolutely gorgeous- if I may say so- children." Scurrying backwards, she almost trips over her sister, who flashes her an encouraging smile, patting the ground beside her with one clawed hand, inviting Maeko to sit. Maeko declined the offer with a slight shake of her head, and leaned against the wall instead, watching her sister, and following her gaze to the first-born chirr. Smiling softly, Maeko knew Mele had already attached herself to the 'small' creature, even though they both knew Mele would not be the only one hoping to bond with the beautiful black and golden female. Instead she let her own eyes rove, and it was then she noticed red and golden chirr. She followed the little one's movements, from her beginnings playing at her Mother's broad black muzzle, to when one of Zaniel's brightly-painted toys caught her eye and she turned her playful intentions to that. Aye, beautiful little one, Maeko thought as she idly twisted a lock of dark hair around one of her fingers, I wish I had as much courage as you. You seem so fiery, and I am so shy. I hope in the little time before the Bonding some of you will rub off on me. With the thought of courage in her mind, and before she could ponder her actions, Maeko slipped a bit of meat from the package she had prepared earlier out from her pocket, and darted forward to lay it nearby the involved chirr in hopes she would discover it when she was done with her games. After all, Maeko reasoned, all that activity might make a new-born Niyia hungry. And with that she went back to her spot beside Mele and waited.
