((Wheeee...I just read the little 'scene' from before. Heh, if anyone's wondering, don't feel young. I shall let you in on one small-tiny-teensie-weensie secret right now. I'm eleven! ::Runs and hides::))
She watches the proceeds with wide eyes, her body instinctively tensing as she feels her friend’s anger, and without even pauses to think about it, she steps forward to defend Zaniel. But then her carelessly abandoned reasoning caught up with her in the second she hesitated, and she realizes that maybe Zaniel just needed to get this over with by herself. So she stepped back into the shadows, watching the episode from there. She squeezes her dark eyes shut as Zaniel cries out, acutely feeling her friend’s fear. After that, she warily regards the male, bordering on anger for the way that he was affecting Zaniel. But soon she could see that Zaniel’s mistrust of Sathran was lightening, and forgot hers. Then suddenly her friend throws her arms around the chirr that had been the cause of their friendship, and she feels her dark brows knit together in worry for Zaniel. Taking the initiative, she kneels on the other side of the chirr, and slings one arm loosely about Zaniel’s shoulders, aware every second of Sathran’s proximity, and almost drew her arm away as he placed his hand on her friend’s shoulder. The second Zaniel pulled herself back together, much of the tension Maeko had previously felt in her vanished, Maeko shifted her hand so it was resting on the chirr’s back instead of the Qyne’s. A low chuckle escapes her lips as Zaniel inquires about fur on her face, and she jokes in return, “Aye, you do. Are you sure you’re not a Niyia, too?” At her inadvertent mention of the creatures she had dreamt so long of Bonding with, her amiable nature vanishes. She was all too certain that no chirr would like her enough to permanently twine souls. Then her emotions swung again, and she was disgusted with herself for being so pessimistic. After all, she had just as much right to Bond as anyone else, right? But she could not shake the dread of the Bonding, for the hour was drawing ever nearer, and she felt as if her doom waited with it, however silly it might sound. She knew if the chirr she so loved went to Zaniel, she would be able to accept that fact, but if she looked to Sathran? What then? She did not know him, or even particularly trust him, although Zaniel obviously did, and she was not sure if she could take that into stride, even if she would have to accept it eventually. Suddenly she wished for it to be over, for this waiting that was toying with her nerves and emotions as easily as chirrs did the balls and baubles they were presented with to be gone, never again to return. She longed to know if she would be good enough to be accepted by a chirr, even if it was not the one she was currently stroking. With a fond glance at the chirr beside her, she settled in to wait once more.
