“How much longer before get there”, asked Sue. “Should be anytime now” replied Mike, “keep your eyes open, the entrance should be along here on the right”. All we could see was the rain and what seemed to be endless lanes. “Here we are” said Andy pulling up at two enormous wrought iron gates, he asked me to get out and open the gates. I stepped down from the warmth of the van into the pelting rain and approached the gates; I had only taken a few steps when all hell let loose. Out of the dark, bounded a couple of nasty looking Rottweilier guard dogs, which took station on the inside of the gates, barking loudly. A few moments later a man who seemed to be their handler came up the drive and called them to heel. “Have you just come from London” he asked, and then putting the leashes on the dogs opened the gate, I was back in the van before he had unlocked it. “Follow the drive and you'll come to the house; you will be met at the front entrance, you are expected he grinned”.

As we pulled up at the front entrance Adam Paisley and Sophie, his wife was waiting; we unloaded the equipment and were soon in the warm entrance hall. “Leave your stuff there for now and come and join us for dinner”, said our host. Over dinner Adam and Sophie outlined the experiences the builders had encountered. The work had been carried out in the west wing, which was to be used for guests as it was their intention to cater for clay pigeon shooting weekends and business seminars. They employed four full time people, a cook, a housemaid, a manservant and a personal assistant to Adam. All the staff except the PA lived in the old servants quarters. Adam, Sophie and The PA lived in the main part of the house and the east wing was to be used as lecture rooms for the seminars. “By the way” said Adam, “if you should need any information on the past history of the place you may find the library useful, you will also find records and family diaries going back hundreds of years there”.

“We're not quite sure whether or not we have one or more ghosts in this place” said Adam, "most of the activity seems to be in the west wing, the corridor leading to the main staircase and the staircase itself, also the Kitchen and wine cellar". "We hope you don't mind but we have prepared the guest rooms in the west wing for you, nothing like sleeping on the job" laughed Adam. “You've had a long journey so turn in whenever you like and make a start on what you're going to do tomorrow”, he said. “If its OK with you, we rather have a good look round to get the feel of the place and set up our equipment tonight” Andy replied. “We can catch up with our sleep tomorrow”. “As you please” said Adam, “I'll let the others know and put them in the picture” said Sophie.

After dinner we moved our equipment containers up to the west wing, decided a plan of action, set up our gear and did a survey, checking the average temperature and magnetic fields of the place. We then retired to our rooms for a shower and change of clothes, meeting up twenty minutes later in my room which was also to be used as the control point, it was decided that we would work in teams of two, rotating every two hours. Harry and Sue were to take the kitchen area, Andy and Rebecca the cellar, Mike and Joe the corridor and main staircase, with myself manning the control point and our CCTV monitor, cameras of which had been set up at various locations.
“Right, lets get to work,” said Andy and with that we dispersed to our allocated positions, little did we know what was to transpire over the next few days! It was precisely at 3.00am when suddenly....
