Don't you really mean give life?
When a birdy has never been out of it's cage can from no fault of it's own become mean and neurotic plucking all of it's feathers out over time. When the door is first opened it fears at first and clings to it's cage and what it has always known. I bet in order to feel ok about being free it needs our love, and patience to help show it is good and safe to do so.
