Hi,
I also have a Sony Vaio ( F270) that i bought off of Ebay and it didn't come with any recovery Cds at all and was loaded with Windows 2000. I was able to successfully install Windows 98 with a non-sony recovery cd ( I actually used Microsoft's Oem pre-install floppy with CD). I applied the fixes in device manager and the system hasn't shut down at any time. the problem lies where do i get the drivers for the audio, modem and firewire port? I downloaded the drivers from Sony's website for these devices, but they download as installation packages and when i try to run them, they won't install and i get a message saying that " you can only load this package on a Sony Viao F1xx, F2xx " . the package won't see the laptop as a Sony as i guess the recovery Cd must put specific information in the system information file or the registry that the installation package looks for. I have combed the web trying to get these drivers, but other than getting the video driver( from Windrivers) i can't find any of the others as separate driver downloads.does anyone know where i might be able to get the drivers or how to edit the registry or a workaround to use the Sony installation packages on my Vaio that i downloaded, so it will see it as the model it actually is? i am hoping i won't have to get the recovery CD if i don't have to. any help wil be greatly appreciate it!
