Subject: I need help with my 88 Firebird!!!!!!!!!

I am having the most difficult time with my Firebird!!!! It will turn over numerous times, yet will not start. I am at a loss. Most of the components for the ignition system are fairly, if not absolutely, new. I need help. My car is a 1988 Pontiac Firebird with a 2.8 V6 engine. If you think you might be able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

If it's an '88 w/ a 2.8, it's prolly fuel injected, the only problems I've had were with the Ditributor and the coil. What kind of work have you done on it? E-mail me...

coil hooked up (correctly)? i know this sounds dumb, but make sure that the rotor is in the dist when you put it in. i have had a run in with that.... they don't start well.

make sure the ignition block is assembled right too.

i got a 88 firebird with a 2.8. It is multi port fuel injection. My car has trouble starting also, the cause lies in the fuel system. I think the fuel pressure regulator is not working correctly. Also, your ecm (brain box) may be malfunctioning or it could be your fuel pump. Clean the spark plugs and crank it over, and check out the spark plugs. See if they are covered in gas/oil/ or even antifreeze. Check to see if you are getting spark. The best $20 you could spend is on a repair manuel for your car.

Try checking your compression. If you don't have enough compression, even though you have spark & fuel, it won't burn or fire off.

welli have a simular problem but a v eight i am either at the pick up assembly or module the reason why is that somthing has to control the signal that the computer gets to be able to command the fuel injection. If is distributerless it has a cam sensor that does this task. Or if it has a distibuter it has to tell the the computer the location of cam buy the pick up. do you have any sugestions?

help, i have 88 firebird and there is no oil pressure when warmed up and idling at stop lights. but when i start driving again it gets back up to 40. at startup its fine, its just when its warmed up (driven 8-10 miles or warmer weather), the temp gage is about 180-220 so its in the normal range, the oil level on the dipstick is within limits. and i dont seem to be leaking any oil, perhaps burning some with 142,000 on the motor, but it just started to drop into the red on the oil pressure gague which never dropped below 20 before, please advise...is there an oil pump that went bad? mail me as i dont frequent this bessage board.

I have the same problem with my 1988 2.8 liter v6. The engine code is the LB8. I've replaced all emissions controls and retrofitted my vaccum lines to factory, but on the other hand I have a cracked pan gasket. Could it be a air volume problem where the motor is drawing in a vaccum through the pan?
