Subject: NEED Help 1985 Firebird 2.8L 6 cyclinder Fuel system Not sure

Hope someone can help. I have a 1985 Firebird 2.8L 6 cyclinder. She will start up and run. Then all of a sudden the engine light comes on she starts to stumble and quits completely. I can hear the fuel pump running. I have changed the fuel sensor and gas filter (checked the flow of gas at this time and it is pumping). After changing the gas filter she ran good for about a day. I also put in fuel injector cleaner No effect. I even changed the computer. As she begins to stumble the engine light flashes. I am getting no codes from the computer inside the car. She ran great until a week ago. She sounds like she wants to start but is rough and won't stay on. If you let her rest for a long period of time she will start and run again for a little while and then it starts all over again. Any help would be appreciated. Or any insights on what I should check. (All started after I got gas. Wondering if water in tank, or something in gas tank, or some part that once it heats up it sends a message to shut down?)
Also if anyone knows where I can get seat covers that match the original (gray)? Been looking for those.
Thanks
Faye

if you changed the fuel filter and it helped for a while then started running crappy again may mean thet there is crud in your gas tank that is getting picked up and ran through the fuel system. this sounds like fuel starvation to me. you may have water in the tank, if so you may have rust as well either one can plug a fuel line. try changing the filter again, if it works for a while then starts doing its act then this would indicate that something keeps plugging the filter. when you change the filter, cut it open (dont cut the new filter, cut the one you're replacing) and check for crud, dirt, sugar etc... take the fuel filter off and blow in one end, if water comes out of the filter then you've found your gremlin. if this doesn't help, feel free to e-mail me, i'll help if i can.

All right man heres the best thing you can do with that car,
pull that wimpy v-6 out and drop in a 350 or 305 v8 heres why 1. replacing parts is so easy
2. MORE POWER
3. If you get ahold of a newer motor you could increse you MPG.
4. you can pick up a 350 cheap and you don't have to do any frame work
5. Did i mention more power?? come on dude its a muscle car

have youcheck your sparkplug wires plus cap and rotor?
while running in dark spray (like a mist) water over sparkplug wires and look for little spark in between of them or in between of motor and bracket to the wires...
if you don't see any thing move gently with a wood stick.
then changed wires, cap and rotor if it makes spark. might solve a part of your ploblem...

123456...
1st cyl=front left from the fan
2nd cyl=front right from the fan ...
ect 5 and 6 are the closest from the distributor cap.
Over the cap when you are looking over it and having the flat side in front of you 1= the one over the right screw.

from what you say there is water in the gas tank, the best way to fix it is to drain the tank i would use GAS LINE put it down the filler tube and suck on it but you could also drop the tank and take out the fuel pump and drain it from there.

does any body know how to sqeeze more power out of a 2.8 and do they make headers for a 2.8

I had the same kind of problem and it was my charging system, make sure your battery and alternator are working properly! take it to murrays and they can test both for free. As far as getting more power from a 2.8, get a new intake and better exhaust, cleaning your injectors and getting a new ignition system (coil, plugs & wires) also helps alot and you can get that 2.8 faster than any chink mobile good luck!
