Lois, what is absolutely ridiculous is for a priest in any Restoration "denomination," or whatever one should call it to subscribe to apostate textual criticism to attack the idea of repentance as turning away from sin, particularly in this passage.

All Restoration denominations defend the inspiration, if not the accuracy, of the Book of Mormon. (Most liberal CofCers think that the Book of Mormon sucks, but they have to at least put on a pretense of defending it.

In Ether 1:40-42 (2:15, LDS) the text reads: And the brother of Jared repented of the evil which he had done, and did call upon the name of the Lord for his brethren who were with him. And the Lord said unto him: I will forgive thee and thy brethren of their sins; but thou shalt not sin any more, for ye shall remember that my Spirit will not always strive with man; whetefore, if ye will [Or, "willfully" (George)] sin until ye are full ripe ye shall b e cut off from the presence of the Lord. And these are my thoughts upon the land which I shall give you for your inheritance; for it shall be a land choice above all other lands.

Anyone who says that the words "sin no more" are not the teachings of Jesus Christ can only maintain that fiction by openly and publicly rejecting the Book of Mormon and the entire Restoration, for the Book of Mormon is a "second witness" to the Bible, to back up the Bible's testimony against apostates, who would prefer to take a penknife to both texts to make them suitable for liberal consumption.

Anyone who says that John, Chapter 8 never contained the words "sin no more," has no alternative to seek out some postChristian denomination and disavow any connection with the Restoration -- including his salary as an official in it. Not only that, since the Restoration teaches that one must obey the Lord, or get the Hades out of Dodge, anyone in the Restoration denying the instruction "sin no more" cannot possibly live in the Americas and please God.

My advice to all members claiming to hold valid priesthood cards in the Restoration, whether LDS, RLDS, CofC, Bickertonites, Strangite, Cutlerite, or Hedrickite: If you want to teach people that Jesus doesn't mind if they commit adultery because of modern textual criticism, turn in your priesthood cards and go join the Unitarian Church, or the Metropolitan Community Church. Trying to teach such nonsense while claiming to hold priesthood in the Restoration is such an absurdity that you can't be taken seriously.

George
