John, I'd just like to add to this that the fact that the CofC, far from being divine in any sense, is so subject to the foible of human falsehood that the Church Secretary's job is very hard. The First Presidency and Council of Twelve do all these underhanded things; then the Secretary gets letters and emails that have to be answered without lying, but not actually telling the truth, either. I think that is why Bruce Lindgren finally gave it up.

Whoever the new secretary may be, (regardless of whether the actual, true, really, really correctly spelled name is ever released) will have his or her hands full from Day One. After all, how does one explain what a shacking up ceremony is without calling it a shacking up ceremony? That's like trying to explain what water is without using the words ice, liquid, vapor, hydrogen, oxygen, drink, or molecule. The uncomfortable nature of the job has a little in common with being the counsel of record for known mafiosi.

George
