I don't think you are nuts, Lois. There are many things going on that people simply refuse to believe because they don't want to.

People refuse to believe what they do not want to believe. I'm sure that a lot of people in New York simply refused to beleive the storm was going to hit, as evidenced by all the people who didn't even bother to go to the store to buy a few groceries and batteries before teh storm hit.
