George,
first the coc did not join the world council of churches, only the national councils of churches USA.

second, there will be no such edition of the scriptures. the coc will continue to publish the inspired version of the bible, the book of mormon and the doctrine and covenants which are still the three standard books of scripture.

for the past 15 years or so, maybe longer-i am not sure exactly the first date, and it isn't really important to this point-the coc have formed the worship helps and themes for the year following the revised common lectionary. that is, the themes derive from one or more of the RCL scriptures, or from the scripture selected by the worship office from the d&c or bom. you should know that in addition to the rcl citations there is also each week a scripture cited from the d&c and bom as coc supplement. the bible scriptures also show the iv citation if it differs from the regular bible citation (usually this is only a nt issue, but as you know, the iv also differs in the ot some places).
the coc will continue to cite nrsv scripture references in communications because they are standard in the balance of the christian community. and if biblical scripture is quoted in such communications or in the herald, for example, the nrsv language is what is used.
this has been the editorial policy of the church for at least 20 or 30 years. basically the rationale is that the nrsv is both easily readable language, and it represents what is widely recognized by scholars as one of the better english translations from the best manuscript sources.

when i study, i use the nrsv, the jerusalem bible, the iv, and i always consult nathan nettleton's paraphrases. when i preach or minister publicly in some manner, i will often use nathan's paraphrase ("corrected" for usa audience)or i write my own paraphrase and use that.
