SOME SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS AND ANSWARS

How is passive voice constructed in German?

German passive is costructed with the auxiliary verb “werden”, meaning “become” and the perfect participle of the main verb.
If the passive sentence is in the perfect or pluperfect tense, one uses the auxiliary verb “sein” plus the perfect participle of “werden” which is “gevorden”, and the perfect participle of the main verb, without the prefix “ge-”
If an actor is specified in the sentence, one uses the preposition “von” with the actor in the dative case.
Examples:
“Viel Bier Wird getrunken.” - “Much beer is/gets drunk.”
“Der Mann wurde gesehen.” - “The man was/got seen,”
“Drei neue Schulen sind geplant worden.” - “Three new schools have been planned.”
“Das Haus wird jezt gewaschen.” - “The house is/gets washed now.”
“Er wurde von einem Stein Getroffen.” - “He was/got hit by a stone”.

What is the average salery in Norway?

The average salary in Norway is around 44000 crowns a month. After taxation this is reduced to around 32000 crowns

If you convert this to dollars according to current quote, this will be around 4000 USD.

But this equivalence is only effective if you convert the Norwegian currency to dollars and spend the money abroad.

But the cost of housing and living costs in Norway are among the highest in the World, if not the highest.

Therefore I think the monthly avarage salary in Norway after taxation, corrected for living costs is equivalent to only around 2000 USD,.

Also be aware that the avarage salary shown here is an avarage across all salaries from the lowest to the highest.

The average salery of ordinary workers are substantially less. Because of the high living costs, Norway has in reality a substantial powerty problem.

-----------------------------------------------

Were the 9/11 attacks staged by the US government?

It was phyically impossible for the towers to collapse so completely amd so symmetrically without some kind of cautiously planned internal demolition, and even more so with builing number 7 that did not get hit.
Therefore some clandestine conspirators within the American society must be responsible for the collapses, and it is difficult to think that fractions within the government were not involved.
But still the attacks by the aircrafts were most probably staged by an islmistic conspiracy, led by the so-called Al Qaida, and if not directly ordered, at least inspired by Osama Bin Laden.
Everybody that can observe and draw logical conclusion must conclude that a worldwide Islamic coup is going on, and that this conspiracy uses terror in order to passivate the general bublic psychologically.
Also it is obvious for everybody that can observe that utterly brainwashed religious people, willing to perfom suicide attacks for the religion, are a reality.
It looks like the conspirators within teh government knew about the plans of Al Qaida far in advance due to the constant surveillance they perform, and decided to make the incident as disasterous and spectacular as possible for own purposes.
It is also possible that some kind of termite loadings were installed in the buildings already when they were built, so that they could easily be taken down at some time, and that they activated and use the preinstallad loadings.

Is the sentence "I don't have no pen." correct? How do sentences with double negation originate?

The formally correct version are:
“I don’t have a pen”, or “I do not have a pen.” or “I have no pen.”
In certain dialectial speech the sentence with two negation words, is accepted, however.
The fenomenon with double tegation seems to have its origin in the pychological urge to make the negation as clear as possible. It is found in many languages, and tend to originate spontanously .
In Romance language double nagation is formally correct.

Did Spanish ever have a similar past tense to Italian's “Passato Prossimo” and French's “Passé Composé”?

Thechnically Spanish has the same tenses, but they are used differently. The composed past is used more or less as in English in European Spanish, which means that it not only tells about an action in the past, but also signals a state or situation of importance caused by the action.
In Latin American Spanish the composed past is little used.
Also the simple past is uses as in English, but In latin America it tend to be the only past used.
In Italian the composed past (passato prossimo) is used as a near past, while the simple past (passato remoto) as a remote past tense.
I think Spanish shows the original pattern of use.
The reason I think so, is because the past participle used in the composed past, originally denoted a state resulted by an action.
Italian has accordingly changed the use of the tense, because also by the original use, it will statistically most often point to something that happened recently.

Is this sentence correct? "It was my first trip to Bangkok"

The sentence is correct. But if you have made several trips, and you will shortly point out that this particular one was the first one, I dould have said:
“That was my first trip to Bangkok”.
If you are telling a story about the trip, and the sentence is inside that story, I would put it:
“This was my first trip to Bangkok”.

------------------------------------------

Is it correct to say: "In the beginning was water and sky"?

When there are two or more objects, one uses “were” and not “was”.
If you do not think the water and sky localized at any specific place and you think very generally that these two substances gave origine to other substances , you then can say:
“In the beginneing were water and sky.”
But if you think about water and sky that were used to create the Universe live in , it is more natural to say:
“In the beginning there were water and sky.”
If you think about the water and sky as something even more familiar, you can say:
“In the beginning there were the water and the sky.”

What language do they speak in Hell?

Hell is a place in mid Norway. They speak Scandinavian, Hellian dialect which happen to be a mid-west Scandinavian dialect.
In Norway, Sweden and Denmark, one speaks a continuum of dialects and each country has official versions of Scandinavian that are called Norwegian, Swedish and Denish. A dialect that happens to be spoken in Norway also goes under the name “Norwegian”, even though it can be more differenent from official Norwegian than Official Swedish, which the dialect of Hell happens to be.
By the way, in Norwegian “hell” means “luck”.

How do you express prefered choises beween actions in English

"I'd prefer eating breakfast than skipping it." Is this sentence grammatically correct? I think it's wrong because of eating and than.

It is wrong. What is the real problem, is that you cannot only use “then” without marking more clearly what you prefer. The element “I’d” is not strictly wrong, but replacing it with “I would” or “I will” makes the expression clearer.

If you speak hypothetically about a possible situation, this formulation will be best;
“I would prefer eating breakfest rather than skipping it.”

But if this is a choise you will encounter shortly, I would put it this way:
“I (will) prefer eating breakfest raher than skipping it.”

How long does it take to learn Italian and what value is it in learning it

I have learned Italian myself so I have a certain experience. If you study one hour on average each day during one year, you will know all of the grammar and have a big enough vocabolary to use the language practically and read litterature. By practical regular use you will attain an even greater vocabolary.

If you want to use the language as a tourist, you will know enough after half a year to manage travelling in Italia without using English.

I think it is worth it because Italian is a beautiful language, so the study by itself is pleasurable, and there is a lot of interesting litterature in Italien, not only the classical, but also modern.

If you know Italien you have a very good base to learn the other Romance languages without studying much. That is my experience with French and Spanish that I use daily because I live in a Spanish talking region now.

I really did not stuy French and Spanish from the ground, but instead learned the differences between these and Italian.

But italien is a complicated language so do not expect to master it in all details without some work.

How to learn Spanish free

I will suggest the following plan:
Go to Youtube and search for “Spanish lessons”. You will find many series of free lessons, at least at the elementary level. Not all series are equally good to explain everything, but you can jump back and forth between lesons of various series.
When you have gone through the most basic lessons, go to Wikipedia and find the article about Spanish Grammar. Learn everything in the article. Espesially learn to conjugate regular verbs, and the most common irregular verbs, like ser, estar, haber, tener, acer and irse.
Then begin reading things you are interested in, written is Spanish, and listen to videos about something you are interested in, where they speak Spanish. You can easily find such stuff by search at Google or Youtube.
Lyrics of famous songs and videos of artists singing the songs are a fine and easy thing to begin with.
Use a free online vocabolary to get the meaning of words you do not know yet when reading and listening. You can use Google translate as a vocabolary.
At some point you should learn all the irregular verbs. By searching for “spanish irregular verbs”, you will easily find lists of the most important ones with links to conjugation tables.

-----------------------------------------------
What are grammatical words, morphological words, phonological words, and lexical words

These terms ar probably not used consistently. Before one can really understand the terms grammatical and lexical words, one needs some basic theory and definitions first:
A morphological word is a combination of stems, prefixes and endings that constitute a unit that cannot be broken apart and the parts moved to other places without disrupting the meaning. The combination thus is a continuous unit. Also it has to be moved as a whole if one wants to move it. The constituents in the unit also have a fixed place that cannot be changed without changing the meaning. Sometimes a morphological word is a bare stem or another bare element that cannot be divided in smaller units.
Another term that is useful to know is “phonological word”. This is a sequence that is pronounced as a unit and can be followed by a pause. Often a grammatical word is also a phonological word, but a phonological word will often contain more than one grammatical words.
What is written as single words are sometimes grammatical words and sometimes phonological words without any clear rule.
A grammatical word is a morphological word with a grammatical function, like pronouns prepositions, conjunctions and many adverbs. many of these are short and canot be devided into smaller units. But the term will often be used about prefixes and suffixes too, that happen to be written separtely.
A lexical word is a meaningful element in the language listed in a vocabolary. For nouns, adjectives and verbs one usually list the bare stem or a simple grammatical word where the stem is easily recogizeable. Prefixes and endings are usually listed as separate elements.
One often use the term “lexicon” about the store of language elements in the human brain. One thinks that both bare stems, single elements, combination of elements and whole grammatical words can be stored, and that the brain will contain a mix that optimizes speed of using the language.

----------------------------------------

What is the structure of a simple sentence

If you mean a simple complete sentence, it will depend upon the predicate of the sentence. Verbs or other words used as predicates denote an action, process relationship or property which must have a specific number of participants to occur.

A simple sentence only has that number of participants that the predicate needs. Furthermore, a simple sentence does not use other sentences as participants. Examples: “He came.” is a simple sentence. “I knew that he came.” is not a simple sentence. In the last example the object is another sentence, and then it is not simple.

An intransitive verb denotes an action that needs only one participant, which is the subject. So a simple intransitive sentence have a subject and the predicate. Example; The boy ran.

A monotransitive verb denotes actions that must have at least two participants, so a simple sentence have a subject, object and the predicate: Example: The man cut the cord.
A bitransitive verb denotes an aqction with at least three participants to be fulfilled, so a simple sentence have a subject, a direct object, an indirect obeject and the predicate. Example: The mother gave her doughter an apple.

If the predicate is a noun or an ajective, a simple sentence will have a subject, the predicate and a in English a copula verb between. Example: The car is red.

Some verbs have the participants implied within the meaning of the verb. Generally only the verb will then be needed, but in English one also uses a dummy subject Example: It rained.

------------------------------------------------

Latin is the ancestor of the Romance languages, so what are the ancestors of the Germanic, Slavic, and Celtic languages?

The ancestors of these are some languages spoken at more or less the same time, called Proto-germanic, Proto-celtic and Proto-slavic. But these languages are not recorded in writing, except some short inscriptions that happened to be written occationally by somebody that spoke the languages and knew the Greek, Latin or Etruscan alfabet, and also by names and lonewords into classical languages from these. Of Proto-Germanic one knows only one such inscription. The earliest Runic inscriptions of Nordic were very near to Proto-germanic, though. Therefore linguists have reconstructed them by comparing the recorded languages from later times.

These languages, as well as Old Indic, Old Iranian, Latin, Anatolian and Greek had an even earlier ancestor, called Proto-Indoeuropean. This language has also been reconstructed.

---------------------------------------------------------

What did the first language of the human species look like?

Any answar to what the first language looked like, must be a personal view without much scientific evidence to support it. The ability to speak, and thereby the first language itself, must have evolved gradually as an element in the evolution of Homo sapiens. Therefore the first language of our species probably was already grammatically like modern languages, but it surely lacked words for technical and cultural concepts that have evolved since then. It might not yet have a fully developed numeral and counting system, but it surely had numbers for elementary counting. But the grammatical structure of modern languages vary conciderably.
It is impossible to know exactly which of the grammatical types we can find today that the first languages had, except for one thing. It seems like most of the modern languages evolved from a parent language with the word order subject-object-verb (SOV), so it was probably of the SOV-type, a type you still can find in Japanese, Korean, Mongolian, Turkish and many Amerindian languages.

-------------------------------------------------

What does the Italian word bellissimo mean

Bellissimo means very nice or very beautiful, used about a masculine being or something denoted by a masculine word. The word can be analyzed as such: bell-beautiful, issim-very, o-masculine singular. The form with this ending is called absolute superlative. Spanish has nearly the same form, bellisimo, but it is more used in Italian.

The form also has the plural masculine variant “bellissimi”, the feminine singular variant “belllissima”, and feminine plural “bellissime”.
The adjective without this enforcing ending is bello, bella, belli, belle in its singular and plural masculine and feminine forms.

--------------------------------------------------------

How to denote the species Homo Sapiens in English

Both “man” and “human” can be used to denote the animal species we are, namely Homo Sapiens, but human is most often used as an adjective, but sometimes also as a noun.
One can say “human being” to avoid misunderstanding.
But “human” used as an adjective can also mean something like “connected to human beings”. Example: “Pollution from human activities is slowly killing the Earth”
German and the Scandinavian Languages are more exact than English, having the words Mensch and Menneske, meaning “human being”.

----------------------------------------------

What is a corpula verb

I guess you mean “copula verb”. It is a verb, usually with a very general meaning, that one combines with an adjective or noun to link aspect, tense, mood or other grammatical meanings to the meaning of the adjective or noun. “To be” is the usual copula in English, but sometimes other verbs like stay, become or get are also used as copulas with different shades of aspect indication.
In the sentence “The town is big” the verb “is” links present tense to the adjective “big”.

In the sentence “The water stays cold”, the verb “stay” is the copula, used to denote a state that still continues at the present time.
You sometimes can read that the copula links the subject to the predicate, which is the adjective or noun, and the name “copula” means link. This may be true, but the most important function of the copula is to denote aspect, tense, mood and other grammatical meanings to the adjective or noun which do not have such inflections of its own, at least not in English.

-----------------------------------------------

When I was 4 years old, my sister was half my age. Now my sister is 12 years old. How old am I?

The clue is how much older you are than your sister. Since your sister was half your age (4) at a time, she must have been 2 years old, and you 2 years older. Now when your sister is 12 years old, you are still 2 years older, which means you are 14 years old.
Even though the numbers are easy, the reasoning for getting the answar is quite complicated.

----------------------------------------------

Can protons and neutrons exist in orbitals?

Inside the atom kernel they recide in a kind of orbitals, but binding forces are the strong interactions described by quantum chromodynamics, while the electrostatic repulsion between the protons serve to moderate these orbitals somewhat.

----------------------------------------------

Alternatives to the English verb "will".

When you say that something will happen in the future, you use “shall” when the pronoun is “I” or “we”, in other cases “will”.
If you by “will” expresses a wish to do something, you can use the verbs “wish to”, “want to”, “intend to”, “hope to”

----------------------------------------------

How can language structure be classified

Most languages, if not all, are inflected to some degree. A language that use little inflections, derivations or compositions, and thus have mostly simple words are called analytic. If a language uses a higher degree of such methods it is called strongly synthetic or inflected. Greek is a strongly synthetic language.
Languages are also classified according to how words are made. If the words are made by distinct stems and distinct affixes put together, each with a specific function, it is called agglutinating.

If the words are made of stems combined with affixes with many functions simultaneously, these fuse together with themselves and the stem, and sound alternations in the stems also may plays a role, the language is called flectating or fusional.
Most languages are at a stage somewhat betwen those extremes. Greek is fusional to a high degree, especially nouns and adjectives, while Greek verbs are more agglutinating.

-----------------------------------------------
How does special (or Galilean) relativity deal with circular motion?

Special relativity just takes into account the speed of an object and ignores the centripetal acceleration.

------------------------------------------------
What compelling evidence exists that proves a cover-up/inside job took place during the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks?

The most compelling evidences are the physical properties of the impact and the collapse, and that the towers, and building nr 7, fell at all.

- The buildings collapsed symmetrically and without bigger parties scaling off and falling to the sides. This never happens after an unsymmetrical impact and fire that this initial happening was.

- Building nr. 7, that did not get hit, fell and equally symmetrically.
- The buildings were constructed to sustain a collision with an aeroplane and showed no fatal weakness after the impact.

- Most of the fuel evaporated by the impact, and the fire was not hot enough to weaken the metal in the framework of the building. Builings made of concrete do not collapse even after a massive fire.

Several other observations indicate some inner explosions as the cause of the collapse:

- One of these observations is the sound of a series of explosions as the building collapsed.

- The towers collapsed with a velocity not very much smaller than a free fall velocity, which could not have happened if the building had cracked step by step from above.

- After the collapse also melted metal kept being hot and melted several days after the collapse, as if some continous reaction was taking place.

Unmarked Governmental Vans Engaged in Child and Teen trafficking

By Knut Holt

http://www.mydeltapi.com

Unmarked vans owned by the government are steadily more often seen at roads in USA and other coutries.

These have generally blackened windows and it is generally unable to look into them, except to some degree at the drivers cabin and in that cabin nothing especially interesting is to be seen, except that the driver and helpers wear some sort of military-like outfit, but with a neutral look.

Some of these are heavy duty vans, and are obviously transporting some material, possibly nuclear equipment for the military forces.

But the most interesting of these are trucks of a more moderate size, that usually drive in small columns. By appearance these seem more suited for transportation of people than technical equipment. The car models and the outfit of the cars are typicallly the same as that of ambulances.

The trucks may in fact be some kind of camoufaged ambulances, and if so, the persons being transported are most probably children or teenagers which are held deeply sedated or under general anesthesia. The child protective system each day transport children taken from parents to secret places, and this is a possible method of doing so.

They might also carry children taken hold of to use them as guinea pigs in governmental projects.

They might be young people having been declared braid dead, but with still living bodies, and possibly still living brains to, and are under transport to some clearing central for distribution of organs.

They might be children and teens being transported this way to governemental correction facilities or mental hospitals where they will be held secretly for a specific time.

Some of these trucks are possibly owned and operated by the National Guard, but still the National Guard may be on some mission for other governmental bodies, like the CPS or jouvenile correction system. Services like national guards and the like in any ountry tend to do services for other bodies when these other bodies require some security transportation service or the like.

This is a common feature in any society. You use your resources for several purposes, and especially security services work on orders from several other agencies, and especially agenies like child protective agenies or the like.

Alien abduction - investigation of memories of alien abduction or similar events

Memories of events that may be interpreted as alien abduction are quite common. Some may be from real abduction by non-human beings coming in strange flying vehicles.

Others may be actions done by governmental agencies or mafias for various purposes that have some of the same type of details.

Often one does not remember the abduction as such, but one remembers only some loose details during some kind of ordeal one has been subjected to.

I have made a poll to investigate these memories. If you have experienced something of the kind, please go to the poll and answar. All the answars will be lain out in the massage forum of the poll to be commented further upon.

The address of the poll:

Extended mandatory well-child examination under anesthesia:

In certain areas the health authorities has begun to subject children and teens to extended well-child physicals where one performs several or all of the following procedures: inspections with optical scopes through all or several body openings, ultrasound examinations of most body structures, x-ray taking of joints, EEG and EKG. The kid is often given sedation or even general anesthesia during these extended physicals to make the kid cooperative and to hinder him or her from remembering. Still the kid will remember a lot of details around the procedures and sometimes also from the procedures themselves, because anesthesia never works perfectly, and the kid will always have some symptoms afterwards that tell a lot of what has been done. This poll has the aim of investigating experiences from such ordeals.

Poll about cystoscopy:

By cystoscopy the doctor looks into your bladder with a long instrument. This instrument can be rigid like a stick or flexible. All age groups have cystoscopies. In some comunities a cystoscopy seem to be a mandatory exam at some ages of children and teens. These communities are probably not many yet, but this type of exam seem to increase in frequency, both for special purposes and for mandatory or recomended screening. This poll has the purpose of establishing a picture of the frequence of this type of exam in different age groups and the arrangements during the exam.

Secret medical exams and procedures under anesthesia:

There is growing indices pointing to a practice of doing secret exams and procedures on both children and adults in addition to the thing they are under anesthesia for. Such ordeals may be done for research, for trainging of medical students, ordered by child protective agencies, ordered by school health service, ordered by police or asked for by parents or relatives. This poll is to find out how common signs of such secret ordeals having been done are. This poll has beenlaunched in several sesseions.

Well if you aren't lucky or cool enough to be in Florida right now there is an alternative. Tuesday the 15th is Triva Night at Hooters in New Orleans. There will be a big possey and if you are near here you should be there. It starts around 7, but get there before then to get specials on beer and chicken wings. Just so there is no confusion, Blue Team is going to kick Team Whiplash's ass. Have a good break kiddos.

I hope everyone is enjoying spring break. If you're in town and start craving some Chef Wok, I'll be working all week! Anyway, I need some help.

My landlord has decided to sell the house, so Roy, Alex and I are looking for a three bedroom....if you know of any houses that will be open after the semester, keep us in mind please.

Second, I wasn't here for formal, but I hear there was a get-together at my house hosted by Alex and Roy. When I got back up here later that weekend, one of my flamingos was gone. Now, I know they're kind of tacky, and Roy really doesn't like them, but that's what makes them all the more appealing to me. If you took my flamingo, just put it back in the yard, no questions. If you choose to keep it, then I hope you die a thousand painful deaths. Happy Easter!

I have a cat. It needs a home, even just a temporary one, by yesterday, Jan. 18.

If I can't find someone to hold him or keep him by the 20th, he goes to the pound.

Call 352-9485 or hit that e-mail link if you're seriously interested. I've had enough of you "Well, yeah, maybe, I'll look at him and get back to you" shitfaces.

I hope you guys had a good New Years, I had a good time but it turned sour later that night. My sister and I went to eat the Port of Call with Bess and her sister the evening of the 1st. They have the best hamburgers in the city of NO, and we even got two rounds of free drinks- Bess worked her magic. But when we went to go home, my car (driving the neon) was not there. Got a cab to Bess's where we played phone tag with the NOPD until 5am. Despite our hopes the car was not towed but stolen. Went with my mom to recover it today outside the St. Benard Housing Projects- the whole passnger side is messed up, looked like they could not drive and the car sounds like it is having trouble shifting now.

On the upside, nobody was hurt, they left the pool stick Jeremy gave me in the car, and I happened to bring in my camera to the restuarent.

Should you ever be in dire need of vechile go after a Dodge, the cop said that all you need is a screwdriver. Pop the ignition cover off and then place the flat end of the screwdriver in the key hole and it will start up.

Hope you guys have a safe break, see you kids back at school.

So, as is typical for me, I'm feeling (and probably am) a little out of the loop. Is there anything interesting and friendly that I should be doing for New Year's Eve? I'll feel very pathetic if I end up sitting in front of the TV watching the countdowns.

Hi and hello to the few of you who still check this board. I hope you guys have had a pretty decent christmas. mine was spent snowed into lagaurdia airport in new york, and my "christmas dinner" consisted of bk french fries and a double cheeseburger (with sprite). Hey alex, did you know that the oldest museum in the United States is in Charleston, South Carolina... An interesting trivia fact they repeated like 4 times during the course of one of my flights. Well, I'm desperately searching for a new roommate, so if you know anyone who is interesting, lemme know. Thanks and take care.

Hey,
Sorry to hear about your holiday experience. I once had a six or seven hour layover that I split between Laguardia and JFK...it was hell, so I can only but imagine the hell you faced. I did not know that the oldest museum in America is in Charleston, but considering it and Savannah mostly survived the Civil War with minimal damage, it doe snot necessarily surprise me. Hope the rest of your holidays runs more smoothly. Happy New Year.

This is me not knowing who checks the board, but trying anyway. Natchitoches peeps. . . you know mike t. you love mike t. he's entertaining and full of charisma. . . wouldn't you like to see him after new years. here's the rub. Mike is going to a classics convention (national, very important) in january and must get down there somehow. Therefore, would anyone be up for giving him a ride from shreveport on the 2nd or so? there could be gas, company, praise, and a special request in your future. . .

Hello everyone,
I thikn that my brother and I were the last to leave natchitoches, of those who are actually leaving. After sending off Mikey and Stu-dog, we headed ourselves. I hope everyone has a great three weeks and comes back ready to party...uh, of course, I mean work, yeah thats the ticket. For those who are interested (and I will tell you all regardless of your interest) it took 12 hours for Chris and I to get home because there as a TWO HOUR BOTTLENECK at the Louisiana/Mississippi border. Not all was lost, however, because we were welcomed home to our new Jacuzi. (See mikey, I told you you should visit). I look forward to seeing you all next semester, and to those of you who are coming ot my house over the break, we will keep the water warm for you. Take care all.

Alright, just located this lovely piece of communication software and decided to post. The summer yielded work, 3/4 tablespoon of drama, and enough technical jargon that would make Webster cry. I plan to attend school in the fall, on my own accord (go figure); however, the higher powers in the cashier and financial aid office lack the necessary coordination to operate a row boat. Not gonna worry, somehow life and people never cease to amaze me. I've wanted to mention the issue of students remaining in college for 5+ years. Now, when I entered "an institution of higher learning," I was told this should only require four/five years of my time. After this time, I would then....uhh.....work at a job doing....Great. We all notice the dilemma (is that spelled right?). So far, out of the twenty or so people I've talked to about the after-school life, I've been instructed to remain in school. So now one has to ask his/her/hisher self, "Do I stay and earn more degrees?" Their point is noted that once I graduate, I must seek employment that will either utilize my new knowledges or just occupy my time until death. I originally came to NSU/LSC to pursue a degree in Physics, but I'm working on Comp & Sys Info degree. It's not too shabby, but it's bull nonetheless. It took me 3 1/2 years to realize the principle behind self and what self wants and what self can do. I believe that, in one form or another, we all come to a point of realization: "What the *$%k? No one knows what's going on." And if someone says they do, chances are they wear foil hats to protect themselves from alien/government transmissions. People will come and go, the present will fade to memories, and the future will bring uncertainty and change. I'm not trying to say everything is terrible and we should all run off to the woods and live in treehouses with monkey butlers; however, does anyone else get tired of the rat race? Dumb question, right? Perhaps I need a new venue. Despite it all, I still want that physics degree. That's all I know. So let this be a lesson: no one knows, and if they do, chances are this is their fifth reincarnation. See everyone soon and keep you head up and eyes open....

Thales once said that you never step into the same river twice. Some people would argue, "Of course you do, it's still the mississippi" but I think they miss the point. The idea is that everything is always in flux, so whatever definative order we place on life, it is doomed to failure (much to our spite and god's delight). So we have to have a conversation with ourself and ask "Self, what the hell do I do now?" And My self typically says "you gotta do what you can to make yourself happy and well. . . worryig about security is dumb since, well. . . you can't be certain. . ." Thom Yorke said, "the best you can is good. . . . good enough" bUt now I'm doing all kinds of digressing. I guess the point is, well, Jimmy is right. We're sort of given an outline of the way things work and typically, that never happens. . . so we're sort of betrayed. But in a way, I think what the whole experiene of college, or life in general for that matter teaches us is that you do what you can to try and become what you want, and if it fails, you resolutly keep trying, or you go something else. I plan to teach in college one day, but I may very well end up a high school debate coach. No one can say. I think we all get tired of the rat race, but it's the only game in town. So what do you do. . . we'll there are rule's, but they're flexible, change them. Do what you can to survive in the wheel that would keep you happy and hopefully not just occupy your time until you die. . . god help me if I do that. or in Jimmy's case. . . get the degree you want and then, well. . . we'll see what happens. This however is just the humble opinion of a philosophy major (which to his family means unemployed are gardner). I don't know.

Though many would probably not expect it of me given my personality and penchant for seeking the future and planning it out and running on sentences, I agree with both Jimmy and Mikey. I have spent many a night wondering if I really want to be in school until I am 32 (thats right, not hyperbole...okay, so there is some residency in there). But, as both our resident scholars already pointed out, one must live for the moment. Right now, this is what I want to do. If when I am forty I wish to leave my research and medical profession to become a chef...I probably will. Listen, I am agnostic (no...not you alex...yes) and, like the Jews, I believe that this life is your only one. There is no big prize for me at the end. So, if you are not working to make yourself happy in this life, what the hell are you doing. I am ranting now....you get my point. Take care of yourself and the people you find dear. Enjoy life. Fucking relax...

I giggle... why not merge your research with being a chef? The medical arts with the culinary arts? C'mon, boy, if anyone can make us enjoy eating all those excess body parts and organs out there, it's YOU, Mr. Would-you-like-some-food-with-your-salt Billioux!

I mean, really, Alex. One little pill that makes semen taste like ice cream, and you won't get the women to STOP sucking your dick.

>Listen, I am agnostic (no...not you alex...yes)

Ag... Agnos... Agnictos... NO WAY! NOT YOU, ALEX!

You mean, you don't have a definate and absolutely correct answer about higher powers in general?

Damn. Maybe you AREN'T French.

Nope. Goddamnit, Alex, you really aren't French. Shit.

Ok, so it's Saturday night and I _should_ be securing sloppy seconds from the mighty Mikey T. Unfortunately, I'm still recovering from the hangover from last night's dream, which was a hyper-realistic little ditty where I went to Quirkland down at her house and got stone cold drunk, then vomited and passed out. In my dream. And woke up with a killer headache and a body that didn't want to move.

Fucking freaky. Anyway, that meant I was in just the mood to get cursed out at work for not doing my partner's cleaning work as well as my own last week. So my two weeks' notice is in, and I'll be out probably even before that. Come to Beaudion's quick, ya'll, afore you miss the divine dining experience that is my shitty, pissy, sweaty service, which may also resembele other forms of excretion that I don't yet understand.

Mikey T... I now am going to find your ass and figure out if my dreams really do come true.

I have come to preach the gospel of independent film and music. First of all, the film "Dancer in the Dark". It's a musical starring everyone's favorite Icelander, Bjork. This film is incredible! It won best film and won Bjork the title of best actress at the Cannes Film Festival. So grab a friend (and a box of tissues, that's right, you'll cry), and watch "Dancer in the Dark". Now, for all you hip hop fans out there, J-Live's sophomore release, "All of the Above", epitomizes what rap is really about. The beats are fresh, and the lyrics are educated and informed. Definitely a must-have for any hip hop enthusiast. That's about all I have to say about that.

Eric

P.S. The soundtrack for "Dancer in the Dark" (a.k.a. "Selmasongs") contains songs from the movie and a collaboration with Bjork and Thom Yorke. In one word: goddam.

P.S.S. Anyone interested in the afforementioned pieces of cultural gold, find me tomorrow thru Tuesday while I'm in Natchitoches.

Eheh... too bad I'm a Bjrk fan, even if it's more the "Fucking in Rhythm and Sorrow" and "Oh So Quiet" kinds. You know, manic insane screaming? Yeahhhh...

"Dancer in the Dark," consequently, made Bjrk swear herself off acting because she claimed doing the lead role was too rough on her emotionally to play any other character. So even you, Alex, might want to see what can make a retard STOP doing something.

Or have you already seen it?

I know many of you are very familiar with this piece(most of you I hope), but I felt that I should post it, especially as it seems topical with Jimmy's post. It reminds me of Scholars'. When I first read it, I didn't know what Scholars' was...but now I reread it and understand it much better. Anyway, enjoy (sorry for the long post, its worth it though).

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised by Gil Scott-Heron

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and drop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruption.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
Blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John
Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
Hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie
Wood and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
Thinner, because
The revolution will not be televised, Brother.
There will be no pictures of you and Willie Mays
Pushing that cart down the block on the dead run,
Or trying to slide that color television into a stolen ambulance.
NBC will not predict the winner at 8:32
or the count from 29 districts.
The revolution will not be televised.
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
Brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of young being
Run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy
Wilkens strolling through Watts in a red, black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the right occasion.
Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville
Junction will no longer be so damned relevant, and
Women will not care if Dick finally gets down with
Jane on Search for Tomorrow because Black people
will be in the street looking for a brighter day.
The revolution will not be televised.
There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
News and no pictures of hairy armed women
Liberationists and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb,
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth.
The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be right back after a message
About a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a germ on your
Bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that cause bad breath.
The revolution WILL put you in the driver's seat.
The revolution will not be televised, WILL not be televised,
WILL NOT BE TELEVISED.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be LIVE.

I know I don't post on here very often, but I am having a serious dilemma right now and figured that there was no better place to turn to for help than the scholars' community. In July, I found a great one-bedroom apartment on College Avenue that would be available by September 1. I put down a deposit, lined up temporary housing until then, and started shopping. I just received an e-mail from the landlord that the current tenant decided to stay until December. This makes me, as my mom put it, HOMELESS. This is really not cool. If anyone knows of anything available or anyone looking for a roomie, please e-mail me or call my cell phone. E-mail is Kel1014@aol.com...phone is (504)258-5563. Thanks!

I'm such a loser. I responded to my message to get it put back on top of the list. Just a thought - it really sucks for those of you who had homes get robbed. I've been checking with Matt regularly to get updates on those situations. But at this point in time, I wouldn't mind being robbed because it would mean I have a home...

Yeah. . . boring, boring, Arsenal. .. The Greens went down in the Finals of the FCA in extra time, despite last minute heroics. Oh, well. . . I can't find a way to export the stats, but I can certainly take note of them and put them up. . . . now to figure out how to enter the greens in the world cup. . . which i think i have to unlock. . . . See you all tommorow, I'm expecting Cristal. . . but Schlitz or Malibu will do. . later all.

it's come down to this. . . the LSC green won their inagural friendly today vs. Manchester United thanks to two goasl a piece by Mike T, Aaron williams, and Roy. and an Amaizing hat-trick by Garrett Guilliote. . . this kid is everywhere. They also won their first FCA tournament game against Valencia. The manager is contemplating a substitution of alex Billioux in goal for Zack Pulliam.

See, this is what happens when I'm bored. Thanks to everyone who came up yesterday. I had an awesome time and it was great seeing you all. I'll hopefully see the rest of you this saturday.

While pulliam saw a little playing time after an injury to Scott Manguno,. . . Pierre is now in Scott's spot and Paul Janise is in goal for alex, though nothing can seem to stop Bayern Munich. . .

Eric Van: Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

As the semester quickly approaches, there should be so many questions on your young minds (What classes will I drop? Will I be okay with my roommate(s)? What will I wear?) There's only one question that's really weighing heavily on my mind (besides the ever-present "What make that Mike Thomas so goddam smooth?): Where's the fuckin' party? There's a brand new crop of kids, and someone has to pass out in the front yard (I think two years in a row would be a little excessive for me). So let's gather, get beer, fetch freshmen, and have a great time. After all, we haven't seen each other in a while, it's time to pick up where we left off. Keep me posted.

I don't check the message board for a little while and everything has gone to hell in the meanwhile. I am truly sad at what I've been reading. Never have I seen so much hate displayed on here. We've always been at least civil to each other. I usually took being ignored (which I'm kinda used to) as being the popular method of expressing dislike or distaste. I read all the comics of everyone that I found and was horrified by almost all of them. When did we become so hateful? Cheesy as it might be--I thought we were a community of scholars. A family away from home possibly, but now what I see is nothing like that. Just like it hurts to see your two parents both for whom you care a lot fighting and saying hateful things to one another, I am truly wounded. I feel like a child of divorced, dysfunctional parents once again. Maybe LSC wasn't the place for me afterall. Yeah the education was great but the one thing that has kept me in is the environment. Yes, it would be nice to graduate with 2 degrees but I don't feel so much apart of scholars and not so sure I'm going to continue the hell of thesis to be a part of this "community". Well, if you've heard me at all, please feel free to reply with nothing as normal and leave me as always -- ignored!

Dear sweet mikey T... You are the wisest of all... What you say is the God to honest truth.

Dear Garrett, I read all of your comics... I think they are very, very good. They could definately be considered offenseful, should one choose to view it all as a personal attack, and maybe some people should... But a lot of VERY good stuff is offenseful. and a lot of crappy stuff gets said about peole every where... We are not immune to it, and a lot of it can sometimes be true too.... So what the offended people need to do about these super-creative comics, is take a moment to reflect, and see if maybe there is some nasty offensful stuff about them that needs to be fixed, and if there isn't, then they should probably laugh REALLY loud, b/c it is probably really funny. I am not offended, even if I need to be, sorry.

*aren't we taking a censorship class this semester?!!!?*

And as for whoever is "really concerened"... HELLO... scholar's is TOTALLY disfunctional, has always been, probably always will be.... it is better that we honestly say nasty stuff to eachother, get it out, and then get along... then instead try to be nice superficial B**ches to eachother in an effort to "play nice". I think there is a lot of beautiful blunt honesty everywhere... which happens to be my favorite virture, and it is okay... You can't tell me you have NEVER been angry... at least we are getting it out, and getting on with it. I happen to think I go to school with some hella-cool people, even if most of them think I am an obnoixious half-wit... I don't really care... Because almost all of them are totally real and straight with me, and even when things aren't sunshine and roses... I totally appreciate it!!!! So appreciate that you are even close enough to a group of people so that you can express your emotions among them.... you could go to a big university where no one gives a damn about you and you are just a number - just do what you prefer!

SEE EVERYONE SOON... I miss you allllllll!!!!!!!!
(I KNOW.... i still can't spell... I don't care!)

I take it that since you feel the need to hide behind anonymity you aren't a secure part of the Scholars' society, dysfuntional as it may be. If you really wished to be ignored, as you claim you typically are, then you shouldn't have posted anything. I know, I'm not supposed to be known for anger, but this summer has done much in the way of pissing me right the fuck off and it has nothing to do with the comic strips. Try to let it go and keep on keeping on, because only quitters quit.

I've noticed a distinct loss of community with the loss of Morrisson Hall. With only one classroom in our building now, and most of our classes scattered all across campus, you hardly see anyone except those that you have class with. It makes it more difficult for those of us who aren't naturally social to feel like they're a part of things. Not that I was all that connected when Morrisson was around, but I could have been, and it wouldn't have taken all that much effort.

I think that everyone's overreacted to "those comics". I've read them all too, and they are not all hateful. Most of them are pretty innocent. Those of us out there with easily hurt feelings are just concentrating on the ones that are hurtful. While I'm the last person in the world to tell anyone not to have their feelings hurt, there is a simple solution to this problem: If says something that offends you, don't read what they write anymore. If you're offended and you continue to read, you really have no right to complain anymore.

I haven't noticed that much hate on the board itsself. A few people have complained about things, a few people have told them to suck it up...that's not hate. People overuse the word "hate" most of the time anyway.

Alright, that's just my take on things. Get on with your life.

Dear Ignored Whom-ever-you-are,

Well, I didn't get casted in the movie of scholars', nor was I featured in any comics to the best of my knowledge, and I read a lot of them.
I guess maybe I took everything too lightly, because I thought the comics were supposed to be funny in a "they have an inside joke going" sense of the idea, and I was okay with that.
I see some dyfunciton was part of the package, too. I mean, I dont get along with my entire family all of the time
nor do I get along with all my (parent's) neighbors all the time. Dyfunction is part of life, plain and simple. But all in all we ARE a community. We stick up for each other simply because we have the common link, that is we are all Scholars.
I have second guessed my choice of LSC, but once I got to know more people and became involved, I have thanked my stars I was lucky enough Scholars' picked ME...because I know I am no Alex or Mike Thomas or Justin.
And your reluctance to share your identity really makes me sad, I mean, if you are so unhappy, you could have at leased posted your name so we would have something to go by in the fall when we get back to natchitoches and get back together.
And hey, you know what? It isn't "our" fault anyway. If you are so unhappy, you have to make a more conscience effort to get into things and meet new people and experience Scholars' in your own way, whether it be w/ JJ or with John Birch.
I may not know everyone's name and home town, nor may I hang out with probably a large majority of the students in LSC, but I can say with a good bit of confidnece that I at least recognize everyone and respect them for helping make LSC the FANTASTIC place it is...as cheesey as THAT sounds.
I hope you have a better fall.

I totally agree with whoever this is. We built our reputation on our community atmosphere, about how well we all know each other and care about each other. When did we forget this? I particularly agree with the part about feeling like the child of divorced, dysfunctional parents. If you've ever been there, you know what I am talking about. But I think, even more than that, I once again feel like the stepchild no one who matters cares about. All around you people are arguing about stupid stuff that makes no difference and you are powerless to do anything about it. As I write this, I realize that the people who really should read and respond to this probably won't, but that doesn't really matter. They are the ones who are going to forever be stuck in the cycle of dysfunction and will never progress beyond their crude, vulgar selves.

Very strong words, Crystal, but let's be realistic here. Yes, we've built ourselves on community and togetherness, but that doesn't mean everything's going to be sunshine and roses. This Utopia that people seem to want to create is simply unattainable. I would love it if everyone was getting along and hanging out together, but don't be naiive. We're all human, and so we're not always going to get along. There's nothing to say that you can't approach someone that you might not consider a close friend though. For the love of God peopl, step out of your comfort zones. Groups of totally like-minded people are no fun. Go to a bar, go to a party, or just go to someone's house and hang out. But don't just sit in your rooms by yourself all day and then bitch about not having a community. If you see someone you'd like to get to know better, don't just stand around with your thumb up your ass and do nothing about it because you're not a member of the Blue Team or you don't participate in the same "extracurricular activities" as that person. Approach this person, find some common ground, and make a new friend. I don't think any of us really appreciate fake people either, so if you don't get along with someone, don't act like you do. Maybe that's the problem people are having: blunt honesty has started to take over where emotionless hugs and plastic smiles once reigned. Let's get over ourselves, ladies and gentlemen, because, as dysfunctional as is it is, Scholars' is still a great place. I hope that everyone will be a little more open-minded in the future and may be just a little more thick-skinned, because your perfect world just isn't going to happen.

Ok, there may have been some confusion, but if anyone ever thought that we were a community of lovely, loving people, then they are sorely mistaken. There is a huge amount of naivete, and an incredible token of arrogance in believing at any point that those at Scholars' are somehow above the pettiness displayed on the board. This is merely a reflection of attitudes held by those who have posted angrliy, and these attitudes dont disappear when we all enter the Utopia of Natchitoches and the sanctity (albeit displaced) of Morrison Hall. And don't think for a minute that said ideas and ensuing anger suddenly appeared this summer in the form of comic strips.
Apparently, someone is not familiar with their (that's right, to hell with the PC forms for PROPER writing. he/She my ass)............ahhh, ill repeat for the sake of continuity and effect.
Apparently, someone is not familiar with their fellows.

The use of "their" as you used it is not politically incorrect, it is just incorrect. "Their" is plural possessive. The un-PC thing to do is simply say "he" and "his." According to MLA, however, you should choose eitherr he or she and avoid the awkward he/she. Furthermore, fuck the ulta PC people.

Take it easy folks,
Alex

P.S. If you don't like the person making fun of you, say fuckoff and forget about it. If you do like the person making fun of you, ask him why he is doing it and decide whether it is healthy to place so much importance on the approval of others. Remember the Billioux brothers' motto "Fuck other people, because they are not me." This excludes the cool ass mother fuckas who we consider friends. Peace

Dear Anonymous One:

I am Dave Knox, a "super senior" of LSC. What I have to say is this: yes we may seem a bit dysfunctional, but that's the biggest proof of our communal spirit. If we all got along, then someone is either not saying something or we are all on something. Arguments and dysfunction are all a part of life. Granted, I kinda know what it feels to be outside of our community with my new job taking so much of my time, but still I am recognized and gossiped about like any other scholar (I love how some of the legends of Dave are now coming across wrong). My biggest question is why are you still in LSC (you obviously are nearing your fourth yr) if you don't feel you belong? My answer to that is you do feel you belong or you would have left. Also, the arguing wouldn't have upset you so much otherwise. Just know through thick and thin, rain and snow, sickness and health, we are a family (as dysfunctional a family as possible) and that's what sets us apart, and makes us the Louisiana Scholars' College.

I posted a message here a few days ago, and for some reason it ended up erased. I'd like to reiterate that (despite all the drama) I really miss you guys. I'm here in Slidell participating in a little down time, but I can't wait to come up and visit. Anyone who's down to party around the 24th, find me (hell, Natchitoches ain't that big, it won't be hard). Much love to all of you (except for Nate, 'cause he's still a Backstreet Boy in my eyes).

Eric

The message you posted wasn't erased, merely moved down the list, supplanted by newer ones. Laziness will always lead you wrong. Yes, that was the voice of experience talking. O, and Van Leeuwen, Fuck you. I know, not original, or even very insulting, but necessarily, my answer. Catch in Slidell one of these days.

Hey guys,
I know how you feel....apparantly, we're not the only ones that got robbed....there were 4 houses that got robbed all around the same time (or so I've heard by a reliable soure)....have you got any of your stuff back yet? if not, check the pawn shops, the guy that works there is really nice and took descriptions of everything that's missing from us (or at least the stuff that they do accept at that pawn shop)...anyway, good luck on the moving thing, be safe

You know ... I don't see much hate here on the ole board ... but I do see alot of paranoia and fear of hate ... everyone's all bitchin about the hate and animosity ... when really there's not much of it ... it's like a forty page novella having seven thousand pages worth of review for it ... it's draining ... but alas it's no big deal as the school year's about to start up again and god knows this board will die back down until xmas ... see you kids when you get here ...

oh, and no way out is playing at the ramada inn bar (ole fort pub) this friday ... cover's five bucks and we go on at ten ... be there if you can

Love you kids,

garret = o.d.b. playing ramanajan in a drama.
paul = robin williams, but only in insomnia. in case you can't figure out why, paul is a writer and future murderer.
charmin = tinkerbell on heroin.
alex = jeff goldblum mixed with the boy from dexter's lab.
chris owens = corky romano
pierre = whoever the lamest dragonball z character is crapping in his pants as he storms normandy. he dies, but by something lame, like getting shot in the leg and drowning in the sand or some shit.
zack t. = guan yu played by belushi in a clive barker film.
scott = mathew broderick in ferris . . . day off in which ferris takes the day off to lobby to congress for first amendment rights and is ignored but still feels fulfilled and doesn't get away with skipping.
zack p. = a less lame dragonball z character that saves pierre from his "super san(or however the fuck it's said)chaotic hair" in the prequel to "goku fucks nazi's on a beach head" in which pierre dies by drowning in sand.

that's all i got right now, but more will follow, probably tomorrow after some marination, and i would like to give props for the following character assessments and to those who made them:
means
kent
paul
jensen

people i'd like to see cast in the near future (upcoming sophomores in particular):
roy
cass
christova
aaron
brooke
jimmy-james
katy

First a hear hear to JJ's response to some of his whack caracterizations. . . My vote. . . E-40, but with a better since of humor. And Ok, Danny Glover, no. . .. carlton, wrong again. . . Forest whittaker and Nate's suggestion are bearable (even if that means i die in nate's movie i still got to put it to Julia styles) so props to him and Alex. . . how about this, the late, great Richard Prior, though I'm pretty sure that (and paul cvan back this up) I may be dirtier than he is. And I haven't set myself on fire yet. Or hey. . . Mario van Peebles?

In response to these excellent suggestions, i actually thought to include some of these folks, but couldnt come up with characters/actors for their portrayal. But, here I go.
>people i'd like to see cast in the near future
>(upcoming sophomores in particular):
>roy: I love this kid, and I know he's gonna hate this, but Brett Scallions from Fuel is him dead to the looks, and I believe he has comparable depth of thought.

The rest of these are really hard, maybe not in looks, but otherwise
>cass: Meg Ryan [(its the hair, darlin')also cast her for Bess, which fits a bit better]
>christova: Forgive me, but Keanu Reeves in a cross Neo and Ted
>aaron: Hard, very hard, as with the rest, no answers yet
>brooke:
>jimmy-james:

Well kids, i hope everyone has had a bad ass summer and looks forward to the new semester. I on the other hand will be enjoying some down time in Slidell. Never fear though, you'll see me again...soon. I too have jumped on the bandwagon of those heading to Natchitoches on or around August 24. Mike T - while I'm in town we should have one of those nights where you decide to sleep in Italian. JJ - where are you crashing while you're in town? Zac P. - I'm making the commitment now that I will see you sleeping in a box again sometime soon. And on that note, I shall depart. Somebody e-mail me.

While this summer has been taxing with school and personal loss, I have enjoyed these last few weeks in the big NO. I didn't realize how much I missed visiting with the family, and hanging with HS friends. I will miss hanging out in the Quarter until 4 or 5 in the morning, having several excellent movie theaters to choose from, dominating the first round of TP at Hooters (after we win that pitcher of beer in the first round, my team always does poorer in the second round- strange), Commedy Central, great restuarants and bars that stay open past two in the freakin' morning, not dealing with RFs, Cox high speed internet, Jesuit masses (45 minutes), visitors falling in the Shark Tank at the Aquarium of the Americas, spontaneous trips to Biloxi to gamble, and the mosquitoes (strike that last one). Its almost enough to make me stay. I ask you, what sane person would want to live anywhere else? This is where the night outshines the day. In short, I love my City beneath the Sea. New Orleans, proud to call it home.

ok, so I've been singin nate's song for YEARS now and I'm pleased as punch that someone else jumped on board (hm, mixed metaphors anyone?) ... I haven't even read any of these comics, but, true to form, people have gotten all hypersensitive about the damn things ... yes nate, you are correct. people should wise up and realize that it ain't always sunshine and roses in the world, and folks should be allowed to offend one another. this is true of these comics, and i think the same standard should apply in seminar classes as well. everyone is SO afraid to say, "I think you're wrong" in class, for fear of offending someone. it's always, "well, my opinion may differ slightly, but that doesn't make me right and you wrong" ... blah blah blah ... come on folks, let us not let the bed-wetter hippies make wimps of us all ... garrett, or whomever is writing the allegedly offensive comics, I salute you in your refusal to be brought down by the polite police... ees good wurk you do

I suppose that's all for now ... OH, except, I got robbed ... and just for those of you who have never been robbed, I really hope you don't ... it's not a happy feeling in the slightest ... and sally .... you NEED to call home from that hallway phone and leave me a number where i can get in touch with you about this robbery ... i lost your number ... but anyway, contact me cuz you're not gonna be a happy camper ... they got stuff from all of us (stokey me and you) ... I can tell you one thing ... when we find that kid, someone is going to have a long talk with him about taking things that don't belong to him without asking ... blah, that's all and i'm rambling ... so i'm out .... off to search for song lyrics

i love you kids ... mostly :)

Just as a public service reminder to ALL... and this means you!!!!.... People who take stuff are not nice... WE DON'T LIKE YOU... and you are going to end up at the bottom of the Kharma (sp?) circle forever!!! SO please everyone... I know we all do a lot of stupid stuff... sometimes selfish and mean to other people... but could everyone keep in mind this year to please give a little bit of a shit for your human kinds in this world, and don't be mean, especially not intentionally...
AND I KNOW it has been a LONG time since kindegarton, but remember, AND APPLY those little things your mom and teacher told you... don't take what isn't yours, play nice, and share....OH YEAH... and don't bite.... HARD!!!!:) ;)
SO I am not angry at who ever stole stuff from our house... I'm just sad and annoyed... So put the word out... to people who aren't neat enough to post here and constantly be a source of entertainment for myself... and tell them to be nice... PLEASE! and to make sure they are not someone stealing peoples' stuff! - Because that is NOT okay!
That is all.. I am sorry that people are butt heads... I am glad I know a lot of you people who aren't... and for those of you are are not Jerkoffs.... THANKS!!!!
So thanks for listening, if anyone at ALL hear's anything to help us get our stuff back... please help... and Resume partying b/c I am done!

well, i guess i'm joining into the message board thing a little late in the summer. jenny rhea sent me an email link but it got lost under the pile of junk mail i keep getting bombarded with (how many different people are going to ask me if i want my penis enlarged or a new home mortgage, jesus i fucking hate junk mail) so anyway, things are going at the usual slow pace of summer in natchitoches. there's a little summer school here, a lot of tv there, you know the drill.

oh, MIKE T THIS IS FOR YOU when do you get back to the port? i take the GRE there on the 16th and i'm going to want a night of hard, hard, hard drinking afterwards. if you're available i'd like to do it with you. if not, alone in the gutter is fine.

Ok, ASSHOLES!

No more disclaimers, apologies, or justifications (Garrett, I know that you have made none of these.......o and those of you that read his strip and in any way construed it as apologetic, a six inch nail in the brain base is painless and fun, you should all try it).

It is perfectly fine to insult anyone that you choose to, in jest or absolute honesty. If you are the subject of these insults, GROW THE FUCK UP!!! This is life, not everyone is going to like you, and being a whiny bitch about it will not make you more popular/well-liked/acceptable. Ever. Get over it and move on.

If you can't handle it, and you feel you must have a retort, while that doesnt make you a bad person, it doesnt make you a good one either.

O and to those that do feel the need to defend yourself by trying to create a comic or by replying in a two year old tone of voice (Moooommmmmy, garrett's making fun of meeeee)
you are neither as witty nor as clever as you may think you sound. So stop it.

There will be bitch slaps handed out if this juvenility persists.

I didn't know what you were talking about until someone wrote me to tell me that my comic was hilarious. No, I did not create this comic strip. I wasn't offended or angered by anyone's comics, nor am I clever enough to attempt to make up my own (not that the one in question is at all clever). By the way, has it been raining much up there? I'm worried about my gardens. Hasta luego

However, a search at bolt.com for selene22 (her email) reveals that it was most likely a 20 year-old chica who created this strip. Her bday would be June 25, making her, what, a cancer. She is majoring in philosopy, has a cat, and cares very strongly for animal rights and the environment. As for her romantic status, sigh...she's taken.

It's a hilarous new epic series about being called on how I'm such an asshole. Fifteen hand-misnumbered superfunny attention-whoring comics, because you hate them and hate me, but keep fucking reading them anyway! Hooray!

To begin , if I offended any body by my comics, I am truly and deeply sorry. I meant to have fun with something that seemed kind of easy to do and I thought everyone could enjoy it, I was wrong, and if I hurt anyone, I'm sorry.
Secondly, I NEVER assissted Garrett in his comics, nor did I give him ideas, nor do I control him in any way. What he said in his strip he did of his own mind without any influence from me.
Third, I tried to make fun of only two people on my strip, me, who I have every right to tease, and Garrett, who was doing the same to me in his strip. It wasn't vindictive or hateful, we were just picking on each other, as friends do.
I made fun of my problems with women, and the play that my roommate got that I didn't, and even my weird relationship with Pierre. I was attacking no one, I was meaning no harm to anyone.
If you thought that I was helping Garrett or in some way conspiring with him to harm somebody, I wasn't. He just told me about the program and showed me how to work it. If my comics were the ones that offened you, again I whole heartedly apologize. Nothing makes me feel worse than when I hurt someone else, I can't say more than that.

I don't watch scary movies, so signs is out for me. However, I did see STOMP last night. Omygosh, it was SO good. I was in the front row, seat A1. The show totally kicked ass! The eight performers were so talented, and they interacted with the audience throughout the show. It was such beautiful, pure music!!

Also, I found this really fun website to go to when I'm like waiting for shit to download or just really bored. It's lemonadegame.com. You set up and maintain a virtual lemonade stand and, depending on the weather, make some (virtual) money. It's total cheese, but fun never-the-less.

okay katy, here's the deal. selling virtual lemonade for virtual money at twenty (or so) years of age is totally fucking unacceptable. i mean, i love you hun, but this shit just ain't gonna fly. can't you look at porn or something if you're that bored, or something? i hope that this does not represent a greater pattern of behavior or anything, because i seriously weep for you. take care, and i just know you'll have better luck in the future with your time wasting.

okay, i guess i should have clarified in my previous post...i am at my parents house, and the good christians that they are, they would not much appreciate finding porn in the history logs of their computers...i know i could hook my laptop up to the network, but i have it set up somewhere else burning cds...and of course i could just empty the history log and the cache files, but it's really not worth it...i can manage a week w/o my porn fix...btw...did you check this site out sober, jarz...if that's affirmative, there's your mistake...you should know me better than that

ok, so No Way Out (sigh, I hate our band's name) is playing the Ramada Inn Ole Fort Pub on Friday, Aug. 9. Furthermore, we'll be playing the Pioneer Pub on I believe the 16th, but don't quote me on that one ... I just know it's sometime around then ... and then for all of you kids who won't be in town yet, we're booked in various places all the way through dec. 18th, so come on out and see Jennyrhea get down with rednecks (although we keep the country music to a BARE minimum, just to please the REALLY old people in the crowd) ...

anyway, cover is five bucks at most shows, and you should clap even if you think it sucks so as not to damage our fragile little psyches...

support is good (and i'm not talkin' bras here)

bye kids,

what's up kids? i hope that all is well in natchitoches, that adorable little portal to hell that somehow is a vortex of cool people. it seems is though the influx of peoples in on the weekend of the 24th. i will be no different, as i miss you beautiful people. i suppose that it goes without saying that some drinking should occur, as i've been dry for far too long, as have many of you. if i owe you money, you'll get your cash then. take care, and have a nice couple of weeks.

Finally, the Chris, is coming BACK... to Natchitoches. Moving in this week, me probably on Wednesday, my shiznit on Saturday. It's time for some stylin and profilin. There is a god, and he is me. And maybe I'll be able to smack some sense in to Paul. (jk) All I know is that somewhere in Natch, there's a pint with me name upon it, and it will be drank, oh yes, it will be drank. Now if we could just get some yards, everything would be set.

Oh, and by the way, we need to determine the site, for starters, of our annual gathering and feast to dionysus.

So, I've had a look at just about every new freshman (at least most of the ones that made it to Freshman Connection) and I must say, it looks more promising than not. I'd say a fair split between kids with spiked collars and kids with matching shoe/belt combinations. It's gonna be a fun year, and I can say that knowing I'll be living with all of them in good ole' Boozman.

I hate the humidity, can someone build something for their thesis that extracts humidity from the greater Natchitoches area?

One more session to go,

I am afraid... very afraid... I really like our entertaining scholars... and the large variety of people always available to enjoy life with at our skewl... but it sounds like everyone has a lot of work cut out for them.. helping corrupt the new kids... I hope regardless of what these "youngin's" look like.... that they have some character deep down inside waiting to burst forth with the first over-intoxication and co-ed sleepover, or whatever!

ANYWAY... for some reason... maybe b/c I am studying too much (YEAH RIGHT), I thought the party was always on a SUNDAY night... SOOOO I made a commitment to a person who means more to me than beer does... and so I regret to inform that I will not be arriving in natchitoches until Sunday the 25th. I am just putting in a Special request that maybe we can continue partying... and Do stuff Sunday night too... maybe even monday... or SOMETHING.. I really miss everybody.. and I am afraid of a one-party worn out weekend... We should have a festival week of partying and re-hanging out... or what not... Remember senior class... this is our last year... and for some reason... I really like all you guys... and would like to maximize my last year experience in the presence of good people!!!!
ANYWAY... shout outs to my little jen/jenny's in mi casa... I miss you guys, and if you can, have dinner ready for me on the 25th... HAHAHAHA... I will have lots of pix, and gossip!! and I hope to get some from ya too.... take care... and I will come home soon, and you come home soon too stokey...I love ya guys...oops i mean girls....:) tee hee.
and to all a good night... or whatever

Ok people! It's so cool to hear all the discussions & stuff but just one question-When do we move in? Like I've heard the 24-Sat. but also haven't gotten letter in yet-maybe if I look in the mail tomorrow that would help-but yea can I move in earlier than the 24th? like that Thurs or Fri b/c blah blah parent's can't move everything in one trip sat..it's either bathroom stuff or shoes in my car if I move in myself & wait on them later..hard choice! Anyways yea Freshman party sounds cool since I didn't go last year so I can't wait to see everybody & just chill - no more working at damn Walmart in Jewelry-dumb shit-and I miss everybody!!!! Ok I'm done now..have fun trying to remember who I am since I like never post..

Hey Manda-manda!
specification of 24th seems to be correct from all data I can gather. I suppose that after I have me own belongings situated in 110, I'll be doing the honorable deed of carrying objects upstairs for those who might need such help. And after that, let the night do what it will with our young selves!!! haaaaaaahahahahahahahah!

Amanda, if you reeeaaally wanted to you could move in as early as the 20th...the dorms open for rush then. I wouldn't advise moving in too early, though, b/c all the freshman orientation (you remember that stuff, huh?) will be going on like crazy.

How is everyone? Nice jobs of the comics guys... Have me rollin'. You are two accurate on some people though... A comics point is to "over-do" certain characteristics, but I guess Stewart, Peirre and others are just too "over-done" in real life. Nice work though :) Maybe I'll make some... Waste some hours.
I NOW HAVE A CAR! Yes. I DO... A 95 Taurus, but hell, it's mine, it runs and I don't have to use a flippin bicycle in the rain next semester! WOO HOOO!
I hope all are well. I'll be in Natchatrash on Tuesday and then w/e there is something to do or people to talk to.

So whats up guys? Well I am on my vacation now. I finished my internship and now I am back home. Fucking sweet. I will soon busy myself with secondary applications, but first I will do absolutely nothing for a week. Mikey, Sally, it does not look like California is financially feasible. It sucks. Anyway, I wrote this post with something else in mind.

I find there are some very promising trends in the world of music. First, BIZMARKIE is back! Fuck'en eh. Okay, okay, so its only a remix with a short cameo by Biz. Still, its good to have him back. Next, The Eminem Show. What a damn good album. For all you who think Hip Hop is a vulgar medium (first of all get your head out of your ass...do a little research into the opinions of the great books we read at the time of their writing), I recommend you listen to this entire album. Mathers flows quite eloquently and dicusses the topics that should be on the youth of America's mind. Listen to what he says and you will be impressed. I believe he could easily "hang" with the scholars students. Anyway, check it out.

Talk to you guys later.

You should get a plane ticket from priceline, and then just when you get out here eat out of the garbage cans or bum from mikey... everyone else does.... okay that is my only gripe about CALI... I'm in a college town... why are people trying to bum from me? don't they know that college kids are just as broke as the broke people... we want a free meal too! I'm working to pay rent... not to buy a mercedes... OH WELL.... You should come if you can master-mind a way!!!!

Garrett,
I already told you that I did indeed find you funny. I also find you intelligent. You were the one who turned on me. I do not understand the agression. You are constantly afraid I am trying to express superiority over you with my speech. Once and for all, This is my speech. This is the way I talk. There is no purpose to it other than getting my thoughts across to others able to hear or read what I say. If you feel threatened by my words, I think that may be a little something that you should deal with since there is no superiority intoned on this side. I hope that clears up everything as I would like to maintain you as a friend Garrett.

Alex, as always you are right on. Eminem is the rapping genius/Philosoph King. . .maybe a bit far, but you get the point.
I also had a bigger question to all. . .so almost every great movie has a sage that plays a cameo to solve the lingering problems(my favorite example is Molly Ringwald and Mr. T in "Not Another Teen Movie") but anyway, so I was thinking of a good sage for this movie everyone is talking about and was wondering. . .Chris Billioux? If so, who would play him, bc obviously Jesus has been dead for almost 2000 years!

Sup all,
I went out and had an excellent time with my cousin and Saly last night, taking in a sneak preiview of the new austin powers. . . good to just turn off for a bit and enjoy. I should actually be in class right now, but today was a day where I felt like existentially i needed a break, i felt happy, relaxed, and decided that it would be nice to enjoy a day of summer for once (even intellectual gangstas need a break) so I've been buying books to keep up my german, drinking coffe and chilling out. One of those days that make you realize that ferris bueller was right. . . "Life moves pretty fast. Hey mikey... everything you did for me... was AWESOME!! totally thanks..... I am much calmer now!!!
JUST A QUESTION..... b/c when I do leave this place I intend to continue having a good time... what night is the freshman party usually???? sat. or sunday??? when do they come in..... Are we still having one??? just cause rusty graduated doesn't mean we stop having massive parties... DOES IT???????? I HOPE NOT... we ARE scholars's after all... ANYWAY, the reason I ask this sooooooo FAR in advance... is b/c I have to make travel arrangements!!! wouldn't want to miss anything.....
THANKS...
Sally (JennyRHEA and stokeys favorite long lost roomie, who misses them very much except they don't have penises, but are otherwise "da bomb")

Anyway, call us...you know the number (I'm not there...I won't be back until August 10th....wait, I forgot we have to call you...well, we'll call when I get back home). See ya in less than a month, be safe and have fun.

I don't know if I should be pissed, or glad. On the one hand, nobody even brought me up in the casting call. But on the other hand, when I first heard about this little brainstorm a la owens, my first thought was "fuck, I'm the fat kid from Angus". That gives a nice little aside into my self esteem, but it also goes to show that JJ is NOT the fat kid from Angus. I don't have many suggestions for these, mostly because I don't know most of you people, and the ones I do know have already been more appropriately done.

Matt and Greg Comeaux - Owen and Luke Wilson, respectively.
Beau Boudreax - John Goodman. Big guy, but he's also real abrasive at first, and then real amiable, in other words, this isn't a fat joke.

I know it's against the rules, but I'm going to throw one out there for myself. Personally, I'm gonna have to go with Pesci. He's italian, he's not quite as suave as Denero, Paccino, or Hoffman even, and he's abrasive and loud. But that's just me.

J Goodman is flattering, but I think he might be a little too tall. I have been compared to Chris Farley MANY times, esp. when I let my hair grow and yell "Son of..." Only problem is that he is a worm farm right now.

Alright! Team Carabo tied for first place in the first round and won a pitcher of beer along with Team Wihplash. Camp, Randall, and Boudreaux did well and even got to keep a souveniour Hooters' pitcher and bucket. We followed that fun time up with a trip to Honey's. So if you are free next tuesday be sure to be at Hooters' on the westbank for a good time and free beer. - you kids be safe.

I hope this poem wont cause indigestion,
But I present to you a logical question.
Does your speech continue in the basic norm
Or are all identical speech to these are speeches in standard form?
Does fear of poems begging the question take up your time?
If this is one, is it a circular rhyme?
If this is not that, at this particular junction,
Does that mean I have a syllogistic dysfunction?
So I dot my dysfunction with another injunction,
Or have I created a dysfunctional conjunction?
And further I ask, was I right with a dot
It was in fact adding, so I suppose, I was not.
It was a wedge like a V, not a dot,
Now I see,
My poem is rot,
he observed, ob-serv-ant...lee
If you would hold back the critics it would be most gracious
Of course Im aware, pitys informally fallacious

I talked to a friend of the family at the funeral, and he said that they think it was a busted arota. You can get more info at the Times Picayune website.

Now that you say it (Liv Tyler, not cum), a brunette Alicia Silverstone from some of their other videos (yet short of, say, Clueless) might work even better.

I fear this will only draw attack upon myself, but I like your strip Garrett. At first, I did not know what to make of it, and sometimes it still perplexes me; nevertheless, I trly enjoy the ingenious way you portray your mood and reflections. Some of your strips border on libel, but I am just glad not to be one of the subjects. Having said that, Garrett will no doubt rectify the situation much to my chagrin. Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep venting.

I haven't been around to argue about the casting call, but while I have a brief moment, I'm going to defend myself to this. Christina Ricci...Hmmm-Sugary sweet in Mermaids, dumb-ass in kiddy flicks like GoldDiggers/Casper, Hard Core TomBoy in Now & Then, Slut in Sex Lies and as Nate pointed out, Depressed Pyscho-Chick in Adams Family... What are ya'll saying? Hmmm..... Just Kidding. The list is looking good, but I still argue my character.

So it would seem that this is a dark summer. In Black April Chris Cochran passed away. Then in May my Grandmother and Rondray Hill died. Now in June Augie Bertucci, a Jesuit friend, was killed in a car crash; and this weekend my cousin comitted suicide.

I am sorry to hear of your recent losses Beau. I hope things start looking up for you. I have a question though...Rondray Hill died? How? That just struck me as odd.

Rondray apparently had heart problems his whole life, for which he was on medication. Unfortunalty, just before beginning his internship in D.C. he suffered a heart attack in his sleep and passed away just over four weeks ago, May 25.

(JENSEN: not to be confused with jen (jensen), or jennyrhea since some people cant keep it straight! duh)Well beau, i am only down the street, obviously submerged by spanish, however, i guess without checking the message board, i would not know about your recent loss. As for that, I am sorry. As you said, I also hope for a bright July...in any and every way imaginable. I just think sometimes some of us should think about our friendships (not just with me) but in general, figure out what they are about and where they are going... we each affect our own destiny...I just wanted to point that out. I hope someone understands.
P.S. Lex called my cell last night and wanted me to pass the message to you that she's going to texas this weekend with a friend and figures that incubus is out of the picture since you havent talked to her, etc. And just as she had a problem getting through the busy line at henry ave., so do the rest of us.

You did clearly state: "(JENSEN: not to be confused with jen (jensen), or jennyrhea." Lest it be too cerebral, Iwill walk you through the misunderstanding. You said Jensen, not to be confused with, thus delineating yourself as a separate entitiy from not only jenny rhea but jennifer jensen. Thus the confusion. Just an attempt to keep things civil on the board.

Dude you are the fucking man! or woman! I think we all knew that Jen or is it Jensen or whomever didn't make one iota of sense. You not only confronted her on her own confusion, but you set her straight as well. I think you will be hired as the official lawyer to represent the Blue Team in all legal matters. And being that BT enjoys the drink, you will have your hands full. Congrats! Now don't stop putting people who are too drunk to type a post coheriently in their place. Thanks. BTR #2

July was no exception either. Wally Pontiff -Jesuit grad 1999, team captain, and starting third baseman on LSU's team -died in his sleep last night. Pontiff was a great guy who passed up the 21st pick in the draft by the A's to finish his senior year, and try for another College World Series. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Well I am tired of simply responding to other people's messages, so I decided to make a post of my own. I know, I know, I can hear everyones communal sigh of relief followed by palatable anticipation for what sort of drivel will fall from my mouth like so many rotten fruit. First and foremost, I would like to bring your attention to Robin Williams' new HBO special, "Live on Broadway." I highly recommend you see it. Find a friend who gets it or steal cable if necessary, but watch it. He even makes an allusion to Lysastrata (in the context of rectifying the situation in Afganistan). This is a performance par excellance.
I am finishing up my internship and heading home on saturday. I will miss the city, but I amlooking forward to a break. Mikey, maybe I will come visit Cali.
Chris Owens, you know, even though we kid, we all love you. However, could you please cease and desist all activities that, though they seem like harmless popo culture activities, are actually devisive ploys at making everyone hate each other (more than they already may). A better post would have been "Hey guys, why don't we tell everybody what we think of each other as pertains to looks, sex appeal, intelligence, and behavior." You know, when we first came as freshman we stereotyped everyone because we did not know them. Now we know each other, in some cases quite well, why revert? Oh well, like most cynics, I am actually an optimist who gets depressed that people suck so much. Anyway, I love you guys...keep posting.

*Okay, so I just happened to ask Dr. C about science seminar this morning. The topic is conservation biology. The books are (1) Silent Spring by Rachel Carson (#0395683297) and (2) The World According To Pimm: A Scientist Audits the Earth by Stuart L. Pimm (#0071374906) She is also going to try to get Pimm to come and speak b/c she apparently knows him from her doctoral work or something.

*This Friday a candidate for the chemist position will be here giving a sample class at 11am and presenting his works at 4pm. His name is Charles Cantrell. His degree(s) is from LSU and he has been working in New Hampshire. Mrs. Jeanette said he is young, but married. Anyway, if you are in town and not too busy, stop by and at least talk with him.

*Mike: The books for African Philosophy are (1) The African Philosophy Reader (#0415189055) (2) Introduction to African Religion by John S. Mbiti (Hayden put the wrong ISBN on the book list, I have to correct one at home) and (3) Nervous Conditions (#1580050638)-I've already read this one, it was really good....feminist/post-colonial stuff.

*Oh, and Dr. C wants the forum council people to know that she wants the freshmen food fair to be on the Tuesday while people don't yet have their meal plans. Makes sense.

Anyway, one week left of work...and then, on Saturday, the big 2-0! Katy will no longer be a teenager!!! Happy Birthday also to Seth, Stacie, Jeff and I know I'm forgetting someone, and a very happy un-birthday to everyone else!

okay, here is the deal. i was hoping i wouldn't have to post another message until i had cool news or something, but it looks like people need to be regulated on ahead of schedule. props this time go out to alex. he wins my "jj jarz is not a goddamn candy-ass mother-fucking wanker award". it's nice to know that he's got my back in the face of all this assault and slanderous bashing of my personality. if i had to cast myself, it would be chris farley in a role as the cracker writer for a militant black rap group (perhaps n.w.h. - niggaz with hats). maybe this doesn't work, but it's a jumping off point. maybe as james gandolfini portraying a drunken jesus christ. again, these aren't set in stone, but this is better than what you ass holes are proposing. but here's my real beef - the best that you lazy ass mother-fuckers could come up with is an actor that's fat. i mean, jesus christ. i want you all to go fucking buy a paint-by-number set and some watercolors, because your imagination isn't worth DICK. worst of all, i actually feel bad for chris. i mean, how sad is that shit? i feel bad for chris. and you know why? because he actually created a good conversation topic for us (although it racks up zero originality points) and i feel like it's been abused, ass-fucked, and pooch-screwed into this embarassment. the best thing i can say about this experiment is the casting of jensen. the reason? because not only does he look like geraldo, but his seminars have the same educational value and are led with the same intellectual prowess. so here's the thing. alex, paul, and nate are still my friends. the rest of you are currently fucked. i want you to go to your room, and think about what you've done. and after you've realized that we have to capitalize on chris's annual good idea, this must be cultivated to some higher degree than this horse shit. on a lighter note, i love you guys and hope you're well. take care, and god help me if things degenerate any more in the next month, or "i shall rain my vengenence upon thee."
p.s. - all loyal members of my church, be ready for a fire and brimstone sermon when i get back. out.

so here's some discussion-worthy stuff (though just for fun):
let's cast "Scholars: The Movie"
Rules: any personality (actor, musician, etc) can be used, just mention the time frame (ie. Jodie Foster from "Taxi Driver") when mentioning your choices (if not current).
Also, you CANNOT name a person to play yourself. Part of the fun is seeing who your peers see you as.

Now for my nominations:
Paul: Bob Hoskins. I don't know why, but I like it
Becca: Christina Ricci
Zack T: not the obvious Belushi, rather ROWAN ATKINSON
Mikey T: Carlton, hands down
Alex: John Cusack
Garrett: Rupert Everett (From MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING)
Shane: Daniel Radcliffe (heh heh heh)
JJ: that kid from "Angus"
J Rhea: Kathy Bates from "The Waterboy"
Sally: Julianne Moore (again, I don't know why)
Stokey: Lacey Chabert
Fallen: Ali Larter in "Varsity Blues"
Jared Kahonek: Steve Buscemi
Q: Meatloaf
Chad: Jeff Bridges (circa "Big Lebowski")
Dr. Means: Phil Donahue
Dan: Ted Danson

Just some of my opinions, let yours flow

I'd prefer to be cast as my fellow tubby comic geek with religious studies tendencies, Kevin Smith whose facial expressions of wonder and surprise more than match my own. To hell with Chris's rules. (and movies are supposed to be better than real life)
As for the other choices...
Paul: Bob Hoskins.- Chris named this one with no justification. I like Mr. Hoskins and would be honored to have him portray me, but it makes no sense.
Becca: Christina Ricci, I can see it
Zack T:ROWAN ATKINSON, No Chris is wrong here, Johnny Depp, he's played unnatractive people before :)
Mikey T: Carlton, only if Carlton was doing a Fresh Prine impersonation, a serious Will Smith (ala Ali) with occasional goofiness would be better (thou, yes he would dress like Carlton)
Alex: John Cusack, I suppose
Garrett: Rupert Everett, of course not, resemblence is no criteria to base a role on
Shane: Daniel Radcliffe (heh heh heh) (why does that sound familiar?)
JJ: that kid from "Angus"- appearance only, try James Gandolfini (Sopranos) for our resident gambler and mobster
Jared Kahonek: Steve Buscemi, yes
Q: Meatloaf, yes
Chad: Jeff Bridges, no John Goodman, he's more versatile and funnier
Dr. Means: Phil Donahue, again appearance only Chris, a waste, a very decadant Anthony Hopkins of course
Dan: Ted Danson, I can see it, but I'd prefer a badass
Pierre and Zach P.- ANY BOYBAND MEMBERS AVAILABLE, REGARDLESS OF COLOR OR AGE
Justin Shatwell- Ed Norton, trust me on this one
Kent- That character actor from Lake Placid and Bicentennial man and stuff (don't know his name)
others were actors that I didn't know so couldn't comment on

Paul, soemtimes justification is not needed, some just go with a gut feeling. (like Bob Hoskins. No real reason, just struck me as a possibility). and sometimes its just how i see a person, and yes, appearances will lead me down a certain train of thought.

in defense of the Angus kid, he was a smart guy, played line on football, and hung out with a little geeky guy (played by Chris Owen). Go fig.

adding to list:
Drew: John Turturro
Pierre: have to go with Jason Biggs
Stuart: William H. Macy (I know you see it)
Garrett (addendum): Tweek
Wild Bill: The guy who played the 'stu' in "The Tao of Steve" (how's not basing on looks working for you now, Paul)
Kevin Bacon: just because
Dr. Picht: DeNiro
Dr. Snowden: John Malkovich
Dr. Means (addendum): will agree on Sir Hopkins
Dr. Cochran: Annette Bening(?)
Dr. Muravitsky: Gary Oldman
Dr. Schiketanz: Harrison Ford
Dr. D'amato: Frances McDormand

I'll keep going as I think of more possibilities
Go ahead and put in your input

Paul, the actor you are referring to in the role of Kent is Oliver Platt, and this fits perfectly. Good form, sir!
-Paul-Kevin Smith is a good call, personal good taste is admirable. No argument may be brooked on this.
-I still adhere to John Popper as Zack Thomas. Rowan Atkinson? What the fuck?
-If any of you insult the Thomas with a tan again by mentioning that he should be portrayed as a Carlton-like character, you shall be slain in your sleep. The music teacher from Cruel Intentions, Sean Patrick Thomas, in that role. Perfection. Or Cuba Gooding, Jr.
-Chris Owens: I will cross the color barrier here adn go with Alfonso Ribiero (yeah, its Carlton)
-Becca: Ricci is a good choice, but in her Wednesday days only.
-Alex: In no way does Cusack fit this, their neurosis' are too different
-Garrett: you have to remember that G is a mad genius, this is best filled by Gary Oldman or Steve Buscemi (a la Con Air) or Neo
-JJ: Gandolfini, i can see, or Dom Deluise
-Chad: not sure, but cant agree with either previous suggestion
-James Means: Paul, I ever tell you I love you? The best casting job so far. Anthony Hopkins is right on.
-Dan: Fellas, I'm gonna have to throw looks mostly out the window for this one, but Sam Elliot, especially in his role in Roadhouse. This is perfect, trust me.
-Pierre and Zach P.: you'll have to find the two boy band members with the least sense of self.
-Justin Shatwell: ok I'll go with Ed Norton
-Jenny Rhea: Can we change Jerry Stiller's sex?
Im gonna add a few, just as I left a few out already mentioned because I couldnt agree or answer.
-Mandy Cason: Diane Lane (recently from Unfaithful)
-Sally: I'm gonna go with Jen Lopez on this one, reasons should be obvious (re: ASS)
-Josh Keltner: I know this is old school, but Mr. Rogers in a much cooler role
-Mario: Mario Lopez, kidding. Benicio del Toro maybe?

Updates coming soon

i suppose that this is half my fault for being gone, and getting myself in a position where i ended up taking time off from school and in another state, but i have a beef. i mean, i'm gone for one month, and chris mother-fucking owens is casting me as the guy from ANGUS! what the fuck. at least paul and nate had my back, but honestly, that's some fucked up shit that will not stand. maybe paul was too flattering with the sopranos ref., but honestly, being fat does not automatically qualify me as the uncoolest motherfucker to ever star in a movie. maybe i'm giving myself too much credit, but i mean really, do i suck that much? at any rate, getting past my need to verbally suplex chris owens through a goddamn pungie stick, i'm doing okay. my life sucks, but i'm working two pretty cool jobs and making decent money. it's always refreshing to think of you guys, and coming back to what i consider my home. i really miss you guys terribly, and am looking forward to my ali-like return to the ring. for those of you i owe money, the check is in the mail. as for the rest of you guys, keep chris in line. i don't want people to remember me as some wank-ass fat kid that makes a final stand at a MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL DANCE! i'm out.

Now that I've picked my ass up off the floor from laughing, I'd like to give mad props to JJ's reply. . . i can't pick a character for the kid, but i know it's not some guy who's runing gag is that his suit isn't purple. . .it's "plum". And mad props to Nate and Paul for not letting me be cast as alphonso. . . i mean so i can do the damn dance. . . I still have more cool in my right. . .well. . . you know. I've wasted more cool into a kleenex than that guy. The other ones:

becca as christina ricci? perhaps, i can see it, but just because chris has a fetish is no reason for our unilateral agreement. . . i think tyhat a) Ricci is skinny now (see recent GQ) and Becca's personality is in a different range.

For Jensen: definatley a Geraldo, but he has to stick to the script. .. i'm not letting the bastard ad-lib.

For chris: tom cruise. . . but not Top Gun tom cruise or some shit like that. . . I'm talking Risky Buissiness tom cruise, the wanker dancing in his whitey tighties and whjo ends up calling a black drag queen for a hooker. . .

I've forgoten the rest and it's pointless anyway. ..

Damn I miss JJ. That rant was like a breath of fresh air. As for this character stuff, while I find the Cusack reference falttering, I agree with nate. We have two different nueroses. I am a huge fan of Grosse Pointe Blank and HIgh Fidelity however. I have been told that i resemble Eric Stotlz to a higher degree. As for Chris, I do not think tom cruise (damn you are feeding the boys ego.. akin to pouring gas on a colorado wild fire).

yeah, cruise is perhaps an ego boost, but then you gotta remember the character, not the actor in my thought. . . the easiest way to destroy your woman's love of that kid is to remind her of the whitey tighties scene. . . everyone's fear o the adolescent male, which well. . . some of us typify. . .

Paul: Oliver Platt (I'm sorry but you can't be Kevin Smith and here's why:)

Andy Rogers: Kevin Smith (see? It's already taken, though if it weren't for Andy, it'd be a good choice)

Ive solved the Chris Owens dilemma too

Chris: Paul Rubens (Peewee)

That oughtta solve the Tom Cruise ego thing :)

Beyond that, he can't be tom cruise anyway... here's why:

Dan: Tom Cruise (Bias? Perhaps, but think Cocktail. Ted Danson? Please, that dude's a gimp who NEVER got laid).

Yes, Justin IS Edward Norton. That one is right on.

ALTHOUGH ...
Becca is more animated than Ricci. That's why I cast Daria for her role (get it ... animated? yuk yuk yuk)

Mike Thomas: I see you as more of a Danny Glover in "Grand Canyon" ... don't ask why... I just like it.

Alex: I see Alex as more Kevin Kline than John Cusak.

Jeremy: Kevin Spacey (but only because I know he'll love me forever for saying it and I can't think of anyone else to be Kevin Spacey ... I know Alex will give me hell for this one).

Stokey: Courtney Cox from friends. She's adorable, she's paranoid, she's anal retentive... now if we could just teach her to cook! (just kidding, she makes the best salisbury steak in town)

Sally: I know the physical resemblance is not there, but Lisa Kudro from friends. Come on kids, who's flightier than that?!

Zack Thomas is Belushi. I realize that that's tired and has been said a thousand times, but wouldn't that lead one to believe there's a reason behind the notion?

JJ: Dude, I don't know that guy they cast you as, but I'll share in your irate reaction. I see you more as Drew Carrey. You rant better though. But the level of aggravation is similar between the two of you sometimes.

Nate: If David Spade were good looking. That is all I'm saying.

Jennyrhea: ok, I am NOT Cathy Bates. Not from Misery, and CERTAINLY not from the Waterboy. Hello???? I'm not even FROM Louisiana. How exactly am I supposed to be the ignorant cajun mama? And she was the badguy anyway. And as far as I'm concerned, yes, we can change Jerry Stiller's sex. I personally think that's a good call. But I'll try on myself anyway. I think I'd have to be some strange cross between Stuart (look what I can do!), Mary-Catherine Ghallager (from the movie, you know, she makes out with a stop sign), Roseanne Arnold (loud, abrasive), and perhaps a bit of Forrest Gump for my tendency to simplify.

Wild Bill: Boss Hogg

Seth: Robert Plant (no, he's not an actor, but trust me when I tell you that's a REALLY REALLY high compliment .. I always thought he kinda looked like him)

There you go kids.... now disagree with me. I dare ya!

Love,
Jennyrhea

Thanks JennyRhea for casting someone as me (finally). I can accept Plant, but someone once told me that Jeff Daniels would work (and it wasn't me who said this, so i'm not breaking Chris' Rule)

Heebie-a small, hyper gerbil
Kent-John Candy would almost (but not quite) make sense...i'm not sure who this Oliver Platt fellow is.
Scott-Sylvester Stalone from Rocky
Chris Owens-Milla Jovovich (Have you ever seen the cover of the Messenger?)
Raymond Bayane-Seann William Scott from American Pie (i.e. Stiffler)

that's all i'm good for right now...

man oh man ... isn't it odd how we scholars kids can have a message board with helpful, informative stuff ... and lovely sprightly debates, and at the same time have retarded fart joke type stuff? ... anyway, I was just thinking that that was pretty nifty ... and i must say the board is a bit on the heavy side for me .... it's the summer kids ... and i think summertime is the right time for mindless chatter and even more mindless entertainment ... although i saw a movie that i think everyone at this board would like .... i assume you're all william h. macy fans ... it was a made for tv movie that he wrote about bill porter ... it's called door to door ... and if you're not doing anything tonight you should watch it ... it's on at 9/8central on tnt .... that is all for now ... i must go now so i can get to the gym and get "swoll" (I want NO flak for that spelling .... there is no correct spelling for swoll)

later kids .

Jennyrhea

Jenny Rhea, I am so glad that you will be in our senior colloquiam class on CENSORSHIP. I think you may learn a lot of neat things. I think my point is made.

BTW, since 'swoll' is derived from swollen, I think your spelling is quite appropriate!

Hmmm, I thought about removing this message from the board (that's my censorship humor) ... thank you for the approval of my spelling ...and I took colloquium already ... so no, you'll just have to yell at me on your own time and not during class this semester .... heh.

If anybody has been putting of washing their cars there will be a carwash put on by the girls of Circle K at campus corner next this comming weekend. And since our last carwash didn't do to well we're doing this one as a topless carwah.

My message is this he said with a smile
lacking compunction and a modicum of guile
my name has been mentioned of late...once or twice
could it be that I'm missed
well that would be nice
so I'm writing a message to those I don't see
who're lacking a bit of Paul in their lives
Paul as in me
I refer to a half french friend
and so to Master B-U, Sasha, Blackfoot this message I send
wishing you well in your lab of research
hoping that you don't feel left in the lurch
and I'm sending this message to another Frenchie as well
he's not really French, but with a name like that-
you never can tell
I can mean only Pierre, the monkey of course
who missed my somewhat random discourse
and I am sending to Mikey in the land of the sun
while the smog's dispersed I hope he has fun
learning Greek, as to speak, as he spends his time
and little ole' me with my sloppy rhyme
and to Chad, and to Chris, and Becca, and Bess,
to any one and all of the rest,
this is Paul wishing you the very best

Why do the messages keep flipping out of linear order? IS that on purpose or is the server just haywire? It's very frustrating. Since this will probably flip to under the messages posted three weeks ago, I guess I'm wasting my time. Life is silly. If it doesn't, well then even moreso.

It looks to me like a message pops to the top whenever it is responded to. I'm fairly certain that this is how it works. It is so you know when an old message is replied to. It keeps the very newest posts (regardless of whether they're old messages) at the top of the board.
