Jungle juice" - another headline dotted on the back of Jiwaka people - embarrassing!

Jiwaka (and WHP) are in the midst of media attention this days, but lest the good news and most portray the bad attitude and ruthless behaviour of the Jiwaka people. By then, we could guess that people might have a motive to reason, why Jiwaka people cause public comotion, rampage and havoc in public scenes, such as the one at Minj Rugby League oval , which caught another news headline not so long ago.

That is, people around our corners might perceive us as drug addicts who are routinely influenced and stoned by drugs (home brew alcohol and marijuwana), and may be suppliers of such illegal drugs. Or may be we are looked down as the low class region in PNG whose native residents could not afford to legitimately purchase legal alcohol/drugs from the licensee dealers, yet we are claimed to be dwelling on the rich plateu/valley. Let go in the air what other people might think of us in respect to media speculation, and let us as understanding and educated people of Jiwaka face this issue (which we know is absolutely true) and do the best we can to reduce further escalation of such socio-economically degrading activities in our society.

There are few causes which I beleive are central to this practice of home-brewing of so-called home branded "jungle juice".

*1. Alcohol ban to publics and local (village) beer dealers/black markets in WHP and Simbu had caused an increase in prices of acohols in hotels/motels' bars and, meanwhile limited access (not by law, but conditionally) into hotels' bars by ordinary people. Thus, inspired ordinary people to stream into steam and jungle juice processing.

*2. High cost of illegal alcohols in the black-market by locals who smuggle through strict boarder scrutiny and/or intensive circumstances force other natives to head for the jungle juice...

*3. Local (jungle juice/Steam) processors who personally beleive to be containing special skills in processing and extracting unspecifically beer, and thus catching infamous praise from their peers and receipients - without having the knowlegde of what is extracted and consumed (pure 100% alcohol content, which is extremely Poisonous...)

*4. Illegal Processing of Jungle juice for illegal sale - short term cash in hand at this time of the decade when the entire PNG community is at the peak of cash crises...

*5. Acceptance and demand of jungle juice/steam (as substitute for beer/op rum) by general community - public servants, students and ordinary villagers without quetioning the product and associated effects ( short term happiness overides thoughts of long term physical and mental health disaster).

*6. Ignorant and abuse of duty and responsibility by Minj and Banz Police force, MPs, Jiwaka councillors and community leaders who are supposed to collectively tackle the issue at hand. Police men and women have been very incompetent and lacked their foremost responsibilities and duties in weeding out activities/practices anticipated and/or engaged by civilians, which are contrary to state/provincial law....

* Special Events/Ocassions (such cultural shows, festivals, Chritmas and new year celebration, courting party, village weeding, etc) flavour the intention of mass processing od jungle juice for sale and consumption on these days and events...

In consumption and adddiction to such illegally homebranded product will have an enduring effects on society.
This may be:

*Long term Mental and physical health discrepencies/disabilities in addicts and ocassional consumers, which may relinquish them from particiation in educational and economical activities. Thus, diminishing economic activities and education standards in our region.

* Consumption on JJ fuels initiation or escalation in social conflict, contfrontation and unrest in public and within the family boundary...

* It flavours the intention of engaging in illegal and ruthless activities, such as roadblock, rape, assult, road block, abuse of human rights, intimidation of visitors/tourists, etc...

* Waste of tax payers fund in purchasing medication by hospitals for unplanned and undue casuses. That fund supposed to be diverted to useful infrastructure development...

There are more to this issue in our region, so please do your part to slow it down. Ther should be possible actions to be taken on this matter. Copies of this view has been sent to Hon. Dr. Fabian Pok and Hon. Kuk Kuli's office for their awareness of the situation and their responsibilities to their region. So do your part, please.
