Another lackluster effort on the road by the Peacocks today.
First off Lampley did not play the entire way and sat back slumped in his chair looking dejected in the second half.Don't know what the transgression was but we really needed his quickness and athleticism against this teams guards today.
We got out of the gate poorly as Iona went to a press from the get go and we were totally overmatched. Could not handle the pressure ,caused turnovers and got us down quick. We rallied to cut it to 3 at 14-11 but Sowell went out at that point for a few minutes when he picked up his second foul and Iona quickly moved the lead to 12 points. We rallied again to bring it within 10 but fell apart near the end of the half trailing by 15 and effectively it was over.
In the first half we played a soft 2-3 zone and Iona broke it down with ease.I was very impressed with their passing and the point guatd play of Rashon Dwight who broke down our defense with his drives and passes in the lane.
No doubt Dunne stayed zone since we were undermanned with no Lampley available and Iona came in with rep of not being a good shooting team.
In the second half we switched to man defense and later a 1-3-1 with Gooding at the point of the defense and Iona had trouble scoring but we couldn't keep from constantly turning it over against pressure and could not buy a big shot when needed. We had it to down 10 at the 12 minute mark but 3 straight poor possesions and we fell back again. Later had it to 9 at about 6 or 7 minute mark but three straight possesions without a shot while Iona scored or was fouled all 3 times and we were done.
Observations-Much of the game we played with Spitler at the point. Leon was totally overmatched by quicker taller Iona guards. Jenkins played pretty well shot 4-10 but didn't get good looks. Once again we ran no offense at all. Most possesions end with a turnover or someone trying to make his own shot off the dribble while being defended hard.
Orta was playing with a face guard due to a broken nose sufferred at the Marist game. Looked like it was bothering him as he would take it off at every break in the action.Todd did a good job on the boards but turned it over quite a few times when Iona doubled him after the entry pass was recieved.
Gooding and Spitler once again showed no offense at all but play hard defensively.Tim is no point guard but he did try to aggresively move forward and attack the defense instead sitting back and getting trapped in the corner or at the sidecourt and turning it over with a forced pass.
On the plus side i liked what i saw of Costner today. He was active and worked hard underneath. The same for Bacon who played very well i thought. He injured his right hand in the first half and had it iced on the bench but he actually contested the Gael players inside. He was a bit tentative in the early going but much better as the game went along.
Hogga barely played and seemed overmatched when he was in early.
Leon was totally overmatched by the taller quicker Dwight who really looks like he could be a very good player for them down the road.Tarver and Campen really hurt us with their inside outside play as well.
Was very impressed with Willard's offense. Attacked our zone with quick passes and penetration from the point guard spot broke us down constantly in the 2-3.I'm starting to have a hard time seeing another win on the schedule. It has started to get ugly as we were totally outclassed for the third straight game.Maybe we can the bracketbuster game.

Lampley does not play entire game and there are no questions from this board and no statement from SPC? I would say the level of interst in this team is zero..No body cares enough to even comment.Loyal,Peacock,Crawford,Oldtimer,Sludge,Peacock Blue??

Should one comment and come under criticism once more for disparaging the kid?

Oooooops...I think I just did.

Right now last years team looked more organized than this one. They were more competitive in the MAAC only tiring out for lack of bodies, and that includes Brock. And JD had conflicts with at least three D1 level players. One before the season and two after. They left and while not at a level to get decent other positions, one has to ask, now with Lampley, who is potentially the bad actor. Starting to develop a pattern. We may not know the story, but the results are showing ominous potentials.

Just to clarify the issues for further discussion. There are some requirements for student athletes when, if broken, a coach has no control over the mandated consequences. Study hall (and that is the original rumor concerning DL posted, but not necessarily fact) is one of those circumstances.

Furthermore,my sources indicate that Dunne has been exremely supportive of Darrell both on and off the court. Much more so than some posters, including myself, have been. He has stuck with Darrell and has given him every opportunity top show his skills. Several posts were made to that effect by our regular posters early on when another coach could have easily pulled the player.

Peacock, of course, is raising other issues which are not addressed here. However, if we are just speaking Darrell, JD has been quite supportive of the young man. What has happened, I have no idea.

We have no idea. Speculation yes. However what we see is the problem and DL is part of that, and I doubt would have changed many opinions at this point if he did play.

No question everyone is interested, but that would only be questions without answers. One would have thought that the announcer would have information but ??? Rather comment from solid information than speculate.

You think you are either crazy, or not worth questioning anymore.

Dunne was another one of those surprise choices by Stein. Need anyone say any more.

The writing has always been on the wall for Stein.

One wonders if he would ever be able to offer a knowledgable comment.

I actually should read closer. Another one of your sentence that says nothing about your view of Stein's tenure. I almost have to assume you side with College BB fan as he used your garbage comment about managing with limited resources. Hell anybody can manage with that, because the limits are specific and the goal of the allocation was to strangle athletics and Bill did his part with bad decision after bad decision. The only flaw in my statement is Stein tried to avoid making decisions at every turn.

By the way, lets here your praise for the patron saint of the present condition from your eyes. Expecting an opinion is a stretch.

Like the Stein-Loughran connection, now you wish to hold me responsible for College BB's comments. Hell, weren't you warned for doing your oral study on all those reluctant cadaver's? :-)

Let me allow credit for your rather creative means by association to surgically attack your current object of scorn. Keep up the dismissive effort and your mural will soon be complete.

And you called me the politician. Those boys got nothing on you.

But I'll bet you were tops in the Mach 1V exam.
