(Archival Note: When Mega Man X was last on Dr. Doppler's Island, he had received help from an unlikely group of allies. IO, and Wave Tortise. Mega Man X had been lured to the island through a hidden command protocol placed inside a "cure" for the Sigma Virus. It in fact turned out to be a mind control program developed by Dr. Doppler disguised as the Sigma Virus. It was stealthfully planted on Saber Wolf during their previous Mission to the Maverick Base on Mars. Mega Man X had eventually been restored to his old self by a second Anti-Virus protocol called the "X-System." It had been designed to purge all foreign data from X's memory, and bring him back to normal. Doppler had forced Mega Man X to participate in his tournament, and kill Reploids for Sport. X had been fitted with a remote control device that would activate or deactivate his weapon system, so Doppler would be able to control him. X was kept under heavy security, until IO, Wave Tortise, and an infected Zero found him. Wave Tortise had willingly decided to Help Dr. Doppler, thus evading any threat of force. But, his motives were not to assist Doppler. Rather, he had heard that the remains of his friend, Saber Wolf had been recovered by Doppler, and he had been rebuilt. Unfortunately, Dr. Doppler had kept his true identity a secret, and did not allow Wolf to remember anything from his past. Instead, he had implanted false memories inside Wolf's head. Wave Tortise had gone to the island with the motive of bringing Wolf back home, but his plans had soon changed. Doppler had usually kept the Speciallists seperate from one another to encourage rivalry, and keep them from becoming friends with eachother. However, on one occasion, Tortise was called in to see Wolf on business. After confronting his friend, he learned of the change in his memory. Wolf did not remember him. He wanted to find some answers. He decided to ask Mega Man X, the only Reploid who might possibly know what happened to him. He went looking for X to find those answers.
IO also came looking for X. He was driven by a quest for vengance. He needed to find the one responsible for killing his makers. The leader of the Mavericks....Sigma. X was his only link to find Sigma, and avenge their loss. IO had followed a trail of clues, and ended up landing on Doppler's island undetected. He moved switly, and was able to find X in no time at all. The two had decided to help eachother because of their common interest. Mega Man X was released from his prison, just as the 17th unit arrived to take them all back to safety. IO went with X, so Signas could speak to him. Wave Tortise elected to remain behind, to see what information he could learn about his friend. He was also interested in helping X any way he could. The price for his help, of course, would be the information on what happened to Saber Wolf. X had gained an important ally. He had offered to help any way he could, and left Tortise with a communicator. It was the least he could do. Afterall, Tortise actually did assist Saber Wolf on a mission to destroy the Maverick Space Colony in orbit around Venus. Because of his willingness to aid the Hunter, X figured he could trust him. As he was leaving, he told Tortise that he would call again soon.)
